1) 'serum' and 'plasma' are very different. one has clotted, the other has not. each is used for many different tests, many of which are not capable of being performed on the other sample type.
2) platelets are perfectly normal. in fact you have 100000-400000 per microliter of whole blood.
3)looking at the blood under the scope (which i do as part of my job) is only half the story. did he analyze your blood? did he tell you the results? frankly, your white count and platlets look low.
