As for the score of the song, despite a symphony orchestra, there was too much noise in the strings, the sound is not pristine, that is when the faster sections are played. And the crescendo writing at the end is nothing to write home about. Madan mohan himself wanted this song to be noisy, but even taking that into consideration, Indian music directors are not very good at writing (if they write at all) music for large orchestra.

You sing a song of someone else and if you can't leave your own Mark on it then you've failed in people's ears (so to speak). Rafi's song was RECORDED, Sonu's version is LIVE; there will be differences. Sonu's done awesome, clearly giving it his own touch, and yet staying true to the original. The vibrato or harkatein are what he has brought to the song. It's Sonu singing Rafi, not Rafi singing Rafi.

Beautiful music the orchestra is just simply stunning. Sonu nigams voice is not too bad but when you compare the original, Rafi Sahib gave somthing to the song that Sonu simply can't but then again full marks to Sonu for keeping the magic and memory of legendary Rafi Sahib alive as most of todays singers are incapable of recreating such magic.

Happd to see this 2day in Sept'11. Sonu must have sung this with the Symphony orchestra sometime in 2005 or so. More than 30 years before when Madan Mohan would not have had any electronic instruments in his orchestra, like that of this Symphony Orchestra.While Sonu tried his level best to get as close as possible to Rafi saab the background score cd hv been better. Rhythm section was not used well. Violins played major role in the song. With a symphony orchestra, Sonu cd hv done even better.
