Wow I can't believe they played this back then. This is an unbelievable punk rock sound from 76, I can only compare it to Ramones and Damned from then. They would have probably been up there if they didn't have the long hair. I know fashion is so fickle!
Far out. I am from Brisbane, born and bred, and to think these guys were doing this type of music on T.V from Brisbane is just amazing. True pioneers of Punk!!
I arrived in Oz (from the UK) as a sapling in 1978 & Oz was as bogan as any hell hole could be...and THE SAINTS emerged from the desolation, with such fucking incrediable music - mind blowing!!!
Chris Bailey's voice encaptulates a part of my living memories & soul...he was 'stranded far from home' as was I, literally...fanfuckingtastic track!
@mayanchild .. .. the saints had been going for 5 years by 78- like here on tv 76-- there were plenty of great bands befor you arived-- and then theres the go-betweens 1979 single.. i seen the saints in london and they blew the buzzcocks off the fooking stage-- like right hetre chris is still only 18yrs
@sunriseRISE that maybe so sunny, but ya still had to wade thru a minefield of bogan tripe to find the gold...not much has changed really - except now the tripe wears designer clothes & fake tans.
i wasnt even born then but im guessing that this clip would have been the first time punk was ever aired on a tv station, then a year or two later came all the over hyped mundane english stuff!
check out other old aussie punk, like razar, thought criminals, victims and suicide squad they are all great!
i was talking all the virgin record bands that appear on lame best punk album ever comps! but there was some great british punk, but alot sucked aswell!
Love it. They're completely taking the piss, playing the wrong notes and chords, obviously miming. The Saints were one of the greatest real punk bands, and one of the greatest Aussie bands of all time.
That was the genius of punk they were already over the top of their sight when they were producing their act. If you have ti refer to proto to fresh proto punk; That is it.
it's like they're taking the piss out of the situation, you can tell because ed kuepper plays wrong chords at times and the bas player (kym bradshaw) isnt actually left handed.
saw them on tv around this time on the Ray Burgess Show, in Melbourne.

Dude only the Sex Pistols were overhyped & perhaps a bit mundane, there were heaps of great British punk bands from the time.

I agree with the comments, and I love how they just stand there, looking bored, while they help invent a new genre of music...
