  • damn i finally landed this. logged it on hotsteeze . com.

  • that fade in @ 1:24 is mad sick!

  • @thegreatcb7 Thanks for the heads-up! I watched it about 20 times - it works deliciously

  • @thegreatcb7 Indeed!

  • you gotta love Matt- no fear, no pain, always progressive ....a legend.......but still has kept his feet on the ground....

Hey Matt, I ´ll be seeing you in Cologne in July.....hopefully.thx for posting.

  • hey does a tuck nohander to no foot an not an one hander -.-

  • I got to see Mat around this time an exhibition in TX and he seemed like a really cool kid even back then. He let us ride his bike as he went in the bike store to take a break. Easily could have stole that bike but he didn't seem to mind. Never would have imagined he would grow up to be such a legend in the sport.

  • mick872 sick as they are they were not all originated by hoffman no handers were by Jeff Carroll, can can were Tony Murray learn your roots holmes

  • excellent footage

    thanks

  • lol his seat it HIIIIGH

  • god hes was ahead of some of the other riders

  • classic old school

  • It was an honor to see him perform before he was signed. Matt shocked the audience at MSG.

    Great show Matt

p.s that was the same show that Todd Anderson almost broke his neck. A horrific plunge. Still have the photos from that show.

  • those quarters are so far apart

  • A canyon air, right there!

Haha I wasn't even two years old when this video was made

  • lmao commentary

  • HOW BOUT DEM MAGS BABY!!!

  • nice!

  • there is one thing you probably cant do. be creative and progressive. he had a major part in creating and pushing the sport. you just most likely repeat and try what you see done already

  • You do realize that this was 1988 and this was groundbreaking at the time. Go look at some of the tricks he invented after this video, first do 900, flair, etc..... Make that statement then

  • Yea but they are doing tricks that have been around for years and that were originated by Hoffman, if these teens are so good where is the grocery list of tricks that they invented? Not one so you stfu

  • You're one fuckin seriously deluded kid to think Matt Hoffman's anything other than a legend. The sport was my life during Matt's peak and I'd put anything on the line saying he's done more for the sport than any other rider in history. He was simply unbeatable for years and years and brought the sport back into the public eye.

In fact without him it's possible that you wouldn't even be riding a freestyle bike never mind doing the tricks he invented...

  • at 1:30 i thought he just kicked the light? wtf!

  • thats the earliest footage ive seen of the ninja ramp. nice

  • no and even if she had ur not going raiding my cubards

  • god his seat is high

  • What a shit ... Better was his tricks at half pipe than in the quater pipes ...

  • Mat was HUGE in creating this sport. It is a good sport. I think every parent should build their BMX rider a half pipe. Look at my BMX videos.

  • hahah mad old footy! gw man.

  • The Commentator Needs To Be Shot!!!!

  • I agree.

  • ǝɔıu ןoן

  • how did u do that?

  • wtf at 15 he had his own fucking halfpipe omg

  • Look at that un-slammed seat.

  • now there is bruno hoffman(D) he is 15 years old but is very strong

  • Power ranger? :S

  • anybody notice that's scott breithaupt announcing the run?

  • wow he is good

  • sooooo good !!!!

  • nice:P

  • Man, I need a WORKING bike soooo bad!!!!!

  • I know how you feel.

  • Mirra can out ride Matt on ramps street and he can prolly skate and play cards better to

  • BS, Matt is the KING,Mirras good, but Matt, is the best.

  • Mirra has a tramp stamp of HIS NAME. You can't get any more gay than that.

  • damn this shit is ancient but damn he is good!

  • the best rider to ride vert ramp in history. i know its back in the day, but those commentators sound like guys tryin to explain tricks now. they have no clue...i mean a x-ed up candybar air and they call it a x-ed up kick out.. lamo...but i love the vid same way

  • My god thats Matt f**** hoffman man!!!! Hes my heroe. He invented most of the tricks we see everyday. Thanks a lot for the post man!

  • did he die?

  • my surname is hoffman ym swerve

  • q onda re sacado pero , le hago la cola

  • I used to be really into BMX freestyle in the mid 80's. It's amazing how far it's come and the tricks that they're doing nowadays.

  • Damn I Remember Watching This On TV!!!!

  • matt the condor hoffman

  • its amazing how much he has come from his best trick being a can can or something 2 landing tailwhip backflips

  • pretty cool

  • I love how they talk about the tricks. I didn't realize they had completely different names back in the day

  • he does look like 1 lol

  • looks like a god damn power ranger

  • he didnt look too pro-ish back then.

  • he was only 15

  • i know that.

  • im 14 and i can 270 pivvot and still working on bar spins. for a fifteen year old hes god kay.

  • did he die?

  • No he didn't.

Watch Jackass 1 and 2 him and tony hawk are in it.

  • i saw him at Torque Center USA in Wisconsin, 1987, Skyway team tour. LOLs.

  • I wish bmx was still like that when everyone had those One peice leather suits and full face helmets

  • and numberplates across the front of the bars! whats happened to them?

  • i like dave mirra better he does crazier stuff

  • You obviously haven't been around BMX for that long. Watch the video Madd Matt.

  • no one can do better then that matt god of bmx

  • mean old skool rims

  • the best BMX'r ever!!

great to see some early footage of him

  • awesome

  • he can do better but this is a bad skatepark

  • HE IS BIKING

    NOT SKATING.

  • shut up bish, that is 1988 not 2007

  • ohh really old news

  • Dave mirra better i think.

  • The cut off in the video to his warehouse was really cool

  • nice love them rims

  • Matt Hoffman is the best

  • haha i love how they always where those wierd jumpsuit things int he 80s.

  • Awesome!

  • Well, i'm 14 and can do most of those tricks that he invented(Except the 900!!) Well, i take my helmet off to Mat, a revelation in the BMX world...

  • well biker barney,he didnt invent them all,think of dennis mccoy,eddie fiola,etc......

  • Guy's, I have been riding for 25 years. I was 15 in 88 and I know what Hoffman brought to the sport. I rode ramp back then and there was no way I was doing ten foot airs. Also Mat pulled the first 900 in the world in 88 and also did the first flair in 89. You ask anyone today, Miron, Mirra, Nyquist, Homan the list goes they will all say Haro invented freestyle and Hoffman took it to the next level. I have so much respect for what Mat Hoffman has done for our sport. Teamharo

  • who is better matt hoffman of dave mirra>?

  • Matt Hoffman revolutionized freestyle vert. He made up most of the newer tricks in the 80's. Indian Air, No Footed Can Can, Riding was so much more fun back then!!!!

  • i am 15 years old and ya i still think what he did was awsome and it may not look like much now but then it was like ure backflips and 900s so u need to shut it. he gave a lot to the sport and made it what it is today.

  • Good Talkin'!

  • Ha,ha! Kids today, you make me fucking laugh. Matt Hoffman invented most of the shit you do, he's bound to look dated now, that's called progression.

That guy ruled freestlyle for years and he made everyone else look like they were riding on flat tires, so show some fucking respect.

  • For all you dumb people who say this is not a big deal, i would like to see that new generation you talk about back in that time with bikes like that and in a age that not an half of the tricks we know now were even invented. Matt Hoffman gave so much to the sport, and he still owns the record for the biggest aerial, 23 foot or something like that, so MUCH RESPECT and props for him.

  • Funny to see how basics were the tricks he was doin 20 years ago. You can't win anything with those things at any level nowadays. The guy has invented the sport since. Respect to what he braught.

  • backflips?

  • i had a set of tuff 2`s what was that thing that you were able to put them in the freezer of something and they would bend back straight? am i off my head or what?!

  • I thought those were z-rims that you could put in your freezer?

  • z's and skyways. must say z's rock! boing!

  • wot u ride?

  • wow, pretty sweet...

  • love the big seat like he sat down and pumped thats hardcore

  • he is god

  • no he is the terminator with all the metal inside him!!!

  • this is gold

  • isn't he riding the skyway tuff-wheels? those were heavy! :)

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!old school....

  • That was cool.

  • Killer vids. Dude. If you have anymore, post them!

  • MADDDNESSS

  • easy. NOT!!

  • wow i liked it

  • Memories...

    Thank you, it is awesome.

  • hahaha.. ooolldd scchhooooll

  • old school

  • thats history man

  • That's crazy, people are struggling today to pull a 900 that Matt did almost 20 years ago. Always be one of my favorite riders.

  • 900 get's easier, the more hight you can pull off. Bigger transition (9 or 10 foot) with vertical will allow for just enough hight (8 feet) to pull it off. Thing is most people can't go anywhere near 8 feet and over as needed. I always found ally-oops (backwards arial) as the perfect hight distance for a big 540. 900 would be easy enough. Again more hight is best!!

  • That was fucking great, thanks.

  • oldschool

  • lmao he looked plain out goofy...

  • Most of us back then had sponsors and used those (goofy) BMX that's motocross uniforms cause THAT'S what Bob Haro, R.L Osborne and Mike Buff all wore in shows we saw. If you think Matt's oversized uniform looks funny you haven't seen the tight uniforms we wore!!

  • haha their like OMG a tail tap

  • when was there a tail tap?

I think if a kid rode the same as that today at the same age as mat was then hed defo get sposored.

  • not the way that bmx is progressing , your gonna have to have a really good atitude and a big ass bag of tricks to get sponsored no-adays

    no lie

  • I've seen kids that age do flairs, whips, backflips and one even pulled a 900.

There is no way anyone of that standard would be sponsored today.

  • classic 1980's.seat high,big bars.

  • Cool vid!!!

  • check out a picture from this show in Okla city, ended up getting the picture signed in 2001, hTeeTeep://wwwDOTsouthernoklahomaDOTcom/stuff/mattdennis.jpg

  • Didn't he pull off the first flair in 88-89?

  • YES in 89' man THAt was unreal MATT IS UNREAL!!

  • Shit, i think he pulled the first 900 around that time too, like 88-89, not positive, but he is a bad motherfucker. I'm sure you all have seen him pulled by a dirtbike and hitting a i think 25ft quarter pipe and airing i think around 28ft above it. Fuckin pioneer.

  • i was born that year lol, its crazy to see how far its all come.

  • Condor was tearing it up from the start.

  • thanks for putting it up! :)

  • That was sick, the condor rules
