I am so glad that you hit points on what I was looking for. Thank you so much, Girl. I am so inspired to do so much with the Make Up that I have anyway. God Bless you!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello all! I've been applying make up on others for on and off about 15 years. It is second nature and I can get very creative about it. I've never had a portfolio believe it or not. How is the best way to start one at no expense to me of course thanks!
Im 13 And I just became obbsessed hah :D All I'm even asking for Christmas is makeup I cant wait to get a job im hopeing for ulta or sephora that would be awesome dream job would have to be stila :)
Hi, I'm an aspiring makeup artist. I recently applied for MUFE academy in Paris and within their requirements they suggested a portfolio but its optional. I don't have a portfolio myself, so is it a constraint, or is my ability and motivation enough for them to accept me? What do you think?
I'm 12, when I was even younger I had no idea... But then I became obsessed with make up, and not just the usual playing with make up... Lols. [: I have alot of expensive products and my mum supports me even though I'm 12 hehe ^___^, I want to go to make up artist and I want to make it big, I want to have my looks on the cover of magazines. Lols [: I know it might sound silly for a 12 year old but this is what I want to do [: .
WOW thank you soooo much! Even tho I'm young, I'm looking into becoming a makeup artist when I get older! You REALLLLY helped me! please make more videos about becomeing a makeup artist! you just 1uped me confidece! lol
Go to the IMATS as well, ask and get in good graces with these YT gurus, because they are so helpful. they've done a ton for me and what I know about makeup. if you have an experienced background, such as applying on yourself or friends you know start creating a port and taking classes to up your experience. if you have less experience, i suggest school. I went to chic studios in brooklyn. Great school
GUURLLLL!!! omg!! Thank you so much for this video. I have NO experience..I want to do makeup and make money doing something fun...I am doing looks on myself and taking pix so that I can build a portfolio or something of that sort. I thank you sooo much for this video, you have no idea...thx!!! lol @ brittany, becky, melissa...hahaha
I want to become a make up artist too, I luve make up and everything that has with make up to do. So in 3 years Im going to a make up artist school for a whole year but its very expensive 13.000 Euro (Im from Germany)
you were very real and very informative. im gona subscribe =) Question: The make up school that I am going to in a few months costs about $4000 and it only lasts for 5 days. Does this sound like a scam to you????
Thank you so much for the advice and help I really did not know where to start but you have really helped me out and made me laugh at the same time :) x
wow! thank you for this. I want to do makeup soo soo bad and I had no idea where to start! You were the best at explaining where to start. I still have no schooling and no kit lol, But hope to get their! Thanks again!
So, I am enrolled in a private collage for beauty (Regency beauty, if you have heard of it) and I'm not sure if I really should be going. I mean don't get me wrong I am EXCITED but its for hair and nails and blah blah blah.. all I'm really interested in is the MAKEUP!!
I want to be a makeup artist SO bad.. but I also want the knowledge and the experience of schooling... anyway my question is am I making the right decision to go to this ALL BEAUTY school?
I'm so nervous to put myself out there. I never really felt passionate about any kind of profession or craft. Until now. I fell in love with MAKEUP. I love it, want to learn as much as I can. It's just the resourcces are so limited here in Hawaii. I don't know how to move foward with my passion with all these limitations.
You are amazing! Thanks for all this info. I've been doing makeup for myself and friends for a few years and now I want to do it professionally. I'm on my way to Sephora and MAC!!!
haha that was cute when u sed the ray-ray and them other names then wen u was like becky! etc.. hahaha too funny but thanks this was very helpful. im just gettin my make up, up there && all i need it the brushes
Thank you!.Currentyly working for body shop but wanting to make the jump to mac and this was so useful!.I agree as a freelance make up artist the best thing you can do is get a job as a cosmologist when work is slow, its a great place to have constant practice and also keep ahead on new products. Thanks for the possitive advice x
this veido was really great! but i was wondering if you could please maybeee do a tutorial on a look that would be suitable for going up to make all MACed up and getting recognized! lol. if you could please i would be so happy thank youu!
Hi. I'm 17 And Im Want To Become A Makeup Artist, I Was Skeptical At 1st. And Lets Just Say You Inspired Me To Actually Do it. You Boosted Up My Confidence. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your response. I have recently discovered NYX cosmetics and have a long list of experience in retail cosmetics, but I am looking into going freelance at this point. So many tell me that I cannot do make up artistry with out a license or something.
I just cant find it anywhere that I have to have a license. Can you help with this? I live in NC and NYX is nowhere around here... I feel like I have a great opportunity, but I just need to get my foot in the door somewhere.
i just had an interview today for MAC for freelancing and I'm really nervous about getting called back. I wore all MAC makeup for the interview and I told her I was wearing the spiced chocolate quad. but I told her that I can work only one day a week (saturdays). she sounded disappointed and said i dont have the availability for them...any advice?
Girl, this was a great "talk" I mean - all this time I really "THOUGHT" about make up and was always kind of afraid to. Yes, i'll admit it. But doing this video had probably boosted up my confidence a little more higher. Good job girl! I'm sure you've made a HUGE difference in someones maybe MOST peoples lives. Go Get 'Em.
Thank you so much for these videos! A lot of the stuff that you have explained has really really helped. I'm just now beginning to explore my interest in makeup, and your videos have made it so much easier for me! I'm 18, and I'm thinking about getting into cosmetology program in the future. I'm a little confused though, is a MUA liscense the same as a cosmetology liscense? Thank you so much for all that you do!
No it is not. A cosmetology license allows you to legally practice all methods of beautification. To have a license to do makeup, you must be an esthetician or cosmetologist. Check your local state board's laws to see what you can legally do without a license. Many states allow you to do makeup (outside of a salon), without a license.
I am new to this and want to do this part time, I have a BA but it is completely unrelated to make up. But I am great at doing make up for others, any suggestions on what I can do?
ps....you are the business for putting up these tips =). this is SO POSITIVE that you r willing to help those aspiring makeup artists w/not just ur tutorials but THIS vid! ur awesome!
I am still under 18 and I have been wanting to go into the makeup industry for about two years now (I am 15) and I was wondering if ther was ANYTHING that I could do to get a jump start? I am still in highschool, so I can't go to a makeup school, but I would like to get a MAC pro-card..is there any way that you know of that I could do this?
Practice, practice, practice. It takes 3-5 years or more of portfolio building before you start charging. Test with plenty of photographers, and always make sure that you test UP (with photographers who are good).
and i'm only 13 so i dont think anyone will hire or free lance me and god i can't find the words to describe how much i wanna be a makeup artist and your my idol you know so much and your real how did you learn so much please help a sister out!!! and how do you get into mac pro school and how old do you have to be????
OMG. You took the words right out of my mouth!! LOL I was going to write the same thing!!! It's not fair. I am really good at applying makeup and, because I am only 13 I can't get a job!! ScandelousBeauty, you are now my idol.
I really need some advice because i dont know what to do i REALLY want to be makeup artist but i dont know what to do, how to start a kit, how to get in the game, i am sooooooooooo confused! HELP! and i want to know if i should go to college or should i just go off to become one and if i dont go to college what do i do spend my whole day at the mac counter? and if i do go to college what do i major in?????? Please respond i need some advice!!!! Thanks!
im 12 and i wanna be a make up artist so bad. i friggen love doing make up. everyday i get home from school i go on youtube and watch make up vids. i wanna go to joe blasco make up school in califorina!!!
Honestly, probably not. You'll probably have to be 18, although I am not sure. But take this time to read any beauty books that you can, practice like crazy and you will be ahead of the game when you get to class!!
hey, so how would you get a makeup license...from going to beauty school? like blaine? thats the hair/makeup school here. I think its like 2 yrs..aslo..do u need to prove u take makeup classes if u apply to sephora?
Yep, you go to an accredited makeup school. I don't know anything about Blaine, but if you give them a call and ask for a brochure, I'm sure that will answer tons of your questions!
I watched your video, very infomative! Thanks for the info. Here's my situation.I've been doing my makeup and friends makeup for a while.I even informed myself alot on makeup and skincare.By chance and I happy that in October there be a Sephora opening in JCPenny, and by that time I'll be taking my course in Theater Makeup, will this gather my chance of getting hired by Sephora?Any more tips??
Sephora is more sales based than makeup artist based, so if you have any retail experience, plus you tell them that you are taking makeup classes, plus you come in with gorgeous makeup, that's definitely great criteria for you to get the job. I got hired at Sephora before I had ever done anyone's makeup, I turned it down (to work for Smashbox), and I regret it! I would have loved to work with tons of brands everyday!
It's is better that you go to school, there is so much more u learn than just applying make-up you learn about skin allergic reactions, face figures, etc.I just recently graduated last week after a year of school,as a certified make-up artist and skin physiologist
Thanks for this video, it really helps! Im an aspiring makeup artist, I will be attending makeup school in a couple of weeks and I cant wait! Is the Mac pro website different than the mac cosemtic web site and where can i get that On Makeup magazine from? thanks Sis
Wow this is sooo informative, yea in my M.A.C interview she said my makeup wasn't blended...I'll give it three months and I'll be back! The freelance idea is genius! Thank u!
Wait, why don't you want to have a portfolio?

Honestly, probably not. You'll probably have to be 18, although I am not sure. But take this time to read any beauty books that you can, practice like crazy and you will be ahead of the game when you get to class!!

I appreciate your video. I am currently a Counter Manager with Lancome Cosmetics and am looking to go freelance. Thanks for the great suggestions!

hey, so how would you get a makeup license...from going to beauty school? like blaine? thats the hair/makeup school here. I think its like 2 yrs..aslo..do u need to prove u take makeup classes if u apply to sephora?
Indy21 3 years ago
Yep, you go to an accredited makeup school. I don't know anything about Blaine, but if you give them a call and ask for a brochure, I'm sure that will answer tons of your questions!

I watched your video, very infomative! Thanks for the info. Here's my situation.I've been doing my makeup and friends makeup for a while.I even informed myself alot on makeup and skincare.By chance and I happy that in October there be a Sephora opening in JCPenny, and by that time I'll be taking my course in Theater Makeup, will this gather my chance of getting hired by Sephora?Any more tips??
sharondamedia 3 years ago
