Great video of guys with real "guts" and courage. Thanks to all Navy Dads and their great sons and daughters. It's you who make this country great. Thank you all and may God Bless...from another old "Bird Farm" sailor (USS Independence CVA-62).
I was an ABE onboard the USS Midway, safety PO on the port cat. 1971 - 1973. Back when they still had bridel launches. the most dangerous job on ship. Loved every minute of it. Thanks for the memories.
@titanium9000 well titanium im just going to try and answer you question base on my interpretation on whats the meaning of the signal. i think it means by raising his hands while doing the close open of his palm i think he means "ready your boosters" they need it when the catapult starts running. and the last one he does is "Salute" final salute to the pilots of the jet. one way of showing respect and saying your clear for take off=) well hope i help you=)
@titanium9000 the arm sweep means he is chckin hook ups. hand forward is take tension. the TSPO pounds chest takin control. pumps fist in air to throttle up. salute is a final check if pilot is read. kneel and thumbs up is clear to launch. i know most of these CAT's ran with them from 05-10 and think i know who the TSPO is. Me im a Gear Dog, but Emoore8883 whats ur sons last name?
I miss that place, and that aircraft in the video being launched was one of the aircraft i maintained, from the looks of it we were still in the 5th fleet.
While just stationed on the USS Forrestal(late '88)i went TAD for a couple weeks as an AR (airman recruit)on USS Coral Sea(first time sea training)as an aircraft handler(securing aircraft).I left the USS Forrestal and the Navy in May,'92 as an ABH3 tractor driver.
Im about to do this job in 6 months I hear about it being hard dangerous and long hours is it worth it. what are my chance of getting hurt or me loving it!
@MrKillPro Im an ABE2 which was on the reagan, which side you want GEAR or CAT's? but it is a fun job you will meet some crazy people as you can see. but we make our job fun but yes it is dangerous and if you Keep Your Head on a swivel and know what you are doin you will be fine.(and you will hear that term alot.) and always repect the DECK. it is unforgiving.
Hardest job???? Snipes have the hardest job on a carrier try taking off without steam. BT-3 (A long time ago) USS Saratoga CVA-60 The mighty 60 from Dixie. She is gone now but not forgotten!
I jus signed ta be an ABE..I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it...its really hard work, long hours, not a lot of leisure time..and then I've heard things like, its was actually fun, alotta memories, I miss tht job..lol so idk what to expect!
@harddawg2486 yes it is long hours and is hard but you will have one hell of a rush with it. and the people you work with make it worth it. and what people say about it being fun and missin it is true i miss the boat a bit.
ABE2(AW) 02-07 USS Stennis. Get the fahk up top! Grease the launch valves, grease the shuttle, fill the grease guns, grease this, grease that, grease ure ass cause ure gonna get fahked, hoo fahkin rah. To all of the V-2 brotherhood you know we ran that fahkin flight deck 24/7
I did this on the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67). Everyone on the flight deck will agree that the ABE is the hardest working, grease covered, bunch of sweat hawgs out there, and we wouldnt have it any other way. Miss that job! ALRE ALL DAY!
im an f-16 crew chief in the air force and ive always kinda wondered what it would be like out on the flight deck looks crazy! one small mistake and some ones dead!
memories baby! abe3 cat 1 in the late 90s. this part is a blast, unfourtnatly its only 1 part of the daily grind that is bow cats....and your second month of 20 hour days 7 days a week will start to get 2 u............get ready for some hardcore hours of maintinence,......lol
02-06 abe 3 uss kitty- hawk. college is cake compared to this boys there are two jobs in the navy abe's oe wanna beez! This song used to flay during fod walk down. Raise the jbd's lmao! bow cats!
thanks for the video. literally just 10 minutes ago, my brother was hyping me up about joining the military. He was telling me stories about his ABE days and how much he loved his job. He held a lot of pride in it and i couldn't be anymore prouder for him. It was real cool to see your son and his teammates having fun on the deck like that.
served for 5 years on the ronald reagan. 3 years of it on the flight deck with the G-1 crew IYAOYAS

I used to work on the tarmac of SFO as a ramp agent dealing with 737, 777, A320, & 747. But shit working on a flight deck is 100x more dangerous.
