1) Why not have a religious symbol like a cross, which is NON THREATENING to anyone's safety? I have no problems with crosses, kippas, turbans, etc.

In Western nations the 'Law' defined by citizens is what defines us. The kirpan is now a "religious symbol" it is illegal to have it as a weapon in many Western countries. So why can't the kirpan be a decorative piece that is totally non-threatening? Is it reasonable to stand in large line-ups with Christians who wish to carry 120lb wooden crosses which represent the crucifix in 100% scale? So why the real knife?
