You should make a kickstarter project, you could easily gather the 25000$ to cover the production costs. Lots of people interested in these toys, and not enough are engineers...
The reason Ubisoft doesn't want this produced is because the film is due for release in 2014, and they probably don't want anyone other than the actor for Altair/Ezio/Desmond having a working hidden blade. Or maybe someone being able to create a working hidden blade is too intimidating since they probably coudln't figure it out and will have to use special effects. But I would love to use this for a short film...someone with lots of money please partner with this guy.
WHY HAS NO ONE INVESTED IN THIS!!!!!!, i would literally kill for one of these, if people thnk it is bad to sell this to children, why sell kids toy guns...or swords, or laser swords that are specifically designed to chop peoples limbs off, THIS NEEDS TO BE SOLD SOMEWHERE!!
For people wondering about the mechanism: Its an OTF (Switchblade) type mechanism. There is a system on top which pushes the OTF switch back and forth every time he pulls the string. ITS ALL custom built pieces. It would be very hard to recreate if you dont have lots of supplies, or if you are not used to engineering and making things like props.
ppl its a D/A OTF mechanism. a coiled spring under tension, the force each exerts canceling out the other. The small amount of force exerted by the user's hand is what tips the balance between the two springs.one of the springs is pushed slightly out of alignment. The other extending the blade and locking the notch into the base of the plate. When the slider is pulled back, the plate is popped free of the back of the blade, and the state of the two springs is reversed.
@doxx357 ohh, thanks, I thought is was some sort of magic that was canceling out the laws of nature. (joking, but really didn't know what was going on.)
@scubahick I tried. The result loads of broken hidden blades. Now I don't even have a normal hidden blade, 'cos I don't have money to buy the ingredients. And before everybody asks me to make one to him/her, I'll say here: I WON'T DO IT!
Ive went through like 20 videos of these things, cause me and a friend are planning on making one ourselves, and yours is by far the most professional and awesome looking. I even watched a video where a kid was using a freaking butter knife for his. seriously.
the design is awesome, you could retrospectively now cnc metal parts for it and actually make a hidden blade; as long as you get tyhe tolerances and weight just right you could make a killing (no pun intended) out of them; try find some sponsors
how much would it cost a real hidden blade like ezio's one?? i don't want to kill anyone but i'm a fan of AC and i really love weapons and i would love to have a real hidden blade
if you sold these it would be cool to give it diffrent paint jobs, like an old rusty look, the original one that you have on the video, one that was in battle with blood and scratches on it, and maybe even a futuristic techy design, i think that would be cool
The mechanism is really the best i've seen! But the whole thing doesn't look very sturdy. Maybe if its case was made of steel instead of plastic it could get to be fully functional
I love the idea and would personally love buying one but idk if ubisoft would be into it. Too much risk for them since someone could replace the plastic blade with a sharpened metal one. Although I would LOVE to see this in a Special addition game preorder or purchase. Amazing work keep it up.
how much would i have to pay for that exact blade... i have a child so the plastic is more safe to have in general...serious question......if not for sale just let me know and i wont bother you again.
thats is a very reasonable price considering others on the internet go for $200 and they have to be manually (by hand) be retracted u have a very prominent idea
im been looking for a way that true hidden blade react by puling a sample string and the blade go back and forth by the look of it its only a one whole blade not like on assassin creed that they use one expand metal to make it longer to reach the targets neck also i wish that u have made it with metal so its more cooler !!!
Kind of cool to see this. Especially because I myself thought of a very similar mechanism, its cool to see the idea works (ring around finger (or fingers potentially) with cord attachted to it)
I find it deeply ironic that the reason that nobody is reading the cost breakdown and expects to pay $20-$50 for this replica, especially when there are already instructional videos on how to make your own replica for just that much, and the custom moulded case that looks totally awesome would be hidden if you ever used it in a cosplay.
i know you cant show us a tutorial of how you made it because of the custom parts but i still would love to see it taken apart just to see how it works.
that is the best one i've seen so far. and probably the best one i'll ever see. i wish i had the knowledge to make one like that. its also nice and some what slim. Very good job.
hey, please read this! could you take pictures of the parts and you taking it apart then putting back together? i have been looking for a blade like yours and would like to make one. i am a huge fan and i am very impressed by your blade. keep up the good work!!!
Wow, that's extremely impressive man. Nice work. Is your blade made of one solid piece, or is it telescoping (like the blades in the game appear to be)?
i have one request i dont want to buy it but i would love an Explanation on how it works? it is an obvious its an Dual Action out the front sytem but the trigger system is what i am intretested in.
Could you not just sell them? You would make an enourmous profit. around 81k people will know that you are selling it, and I bet you atleast half of those people would buy the hidden blade if you started to comercially produce them. Think about it... Around 40k people buying your hidden blade for 200 dollars each. Correct me if I'm wrong but that would give you... 8,000,000 dollars!!
He's not gonna make a tutorial. In my experience with the hidden blade videos, most peoples hidden blades are either completely off, they open with the pull of a finger, or they retract with the pull of the finger (best design with a tutorial). Everyone, shut up!!!!!!!!!!! He probably isn't going to make a tutorial! STFU! Also, instead of a plastic blade, could it be metal? I know, stupid question.
Will you make the schematics available for other person to experiment with if it doesn't make it? Or would you do it regaurdless for other tinkerers to enjoy?
Your design is very slick, I give credit where credit is due, I now no longer feel that mine is the best ever hidden blade design, Yours is by far. The use of Solid Works and the 3D prototyper is definatley the way to save time and a lot of proactive thinking as to whether or not the design is going to work properly or not.
