Greg Phillingaines (Micheal's keyboard player) asked if he could record it and it did OK-ish on the Dance chart and Micheal reconsidered, and recorded his own but then decided not to release it.

@peacewarrior Michael Does not OWN the song, Yellow light Orchestra does. they created this in '79! Michael heard the song in '82 and loved it. He then decided to write lyrics to the song, which is what you are hearing in this video and on the new Michael Jackson album.

@dvp4life so music is by YMO and lyrics by MJ...But YMO version without MJ lyrics sounds incomplete... the idea of music of YMO is interesting but you feel the lack of something....Luckily MJ wrote the lyrics! MJ's version is complete convincing, is perfect! We love u Michael!

@dvp4life Nearly. Yellow Magic Orchestra recorded it in 1978. Quincy Jones (Micheal's producer) heard it and loved it, but Micheal wasn't impressed. Greg Phillingaines (Micheal's keyboard player) asked if he could record it and it did OK-ish on the Dance chart and Micheal reconsidered, and recorded his own but then decided not to release it.

Michael's version blows this one out of the water. Michael's vocals are powerful- just amazing. Claption's vocals are very weak. Well I am so glad Michael version is on his new album. I'm listening to it over and over! Epic!

Oh Wow, I just came here to compare Michael's version with this one. Well, there is absolutely no comparison. Michael's version blowsthis one out of the water. Clapton's vocals are soooo weak compared to Michael's its amazing. Have you heard Michael belting out "Who do you loooove? Epic! What a huge difference. Just love Michael's version. This version is okay..but I prefer the original and Michael's. Michael has more emotion and he's fast when he sings so you're kinda left like "what did you just say..?" which makes you want to hear it more and more. And that saxophone at the beginning of Michaels? Daamn. So awesome. But it's opinionated..

Behind The Mask music is written by The Yellow Magic Orchestra in 1979. The original lyrics was written by Chris Mosdell,based on an idea is also The Yellow Magic Orchestra. Michael Jackson self covered the album and made a demo without a notify YMO and that's what the new album called Michael. was intend to put his album Thriller. Sakamoto still haven't notified who ever mixed the original on Michael,demo either.

Another one of those great Clapton songs from the 80's that was unreleased on American radio. What a crime! I think that it, along with a few other songs from the "August" album, would've charted well if given the chance. I just don't understand how those geniuses at the record companies can keep terrific music like this hidden from the masses. Does anyone know if this song was a single in other countries?
