  • haha i played in a band with robin cole's daughter over the summer!

  • BUM PHILLIPS!!! I LOVE YOU MAN lol

  • The Oilers are doing a great job running on the Steelers. If they can keep that up the entire game with Campbell, they can win this thing! Jack Ham got hurt, that could be big...

  • Now this is what sports is all about.

  • WOW...now THIS was Football. This was a great rivalry.

  • I was there!!

  • Damn, does every male that comes out of a Colquitt pussy punt??

  • Great upload!!! One of the more underrated rivalries of that era. I still don't understand the Oilers leaving Houston for Tennessee?

Any chance you or anyone has the 82 Steelers vs Chargers wild card game? It was a crazy game and in NY we didn't have access to it with the NFL's horseshit "regional coverage" that was even more annoying back in the day then it is now.

  • @ARMquaman are you sure? i live in ny and i could swear i recall seeing that game on tv here.

  • @nymike06 No man I swear, we had a Jets vs Bengals game on at the same friggin time that was 44-17 (Bengals). They would give updates of Pitt vs SD (31-28 SD) but never actually showed the full game in the tri-state area. In those days the NFL/NBC didn't know how to space the games out for mass national audience so you had HUGE conflicts like this one.

These days we have FOX, CBS, NBC, ESPN, and NFL Network blanketing the whole league, let alone the NFL SUNDAY TICKET.

  • @ARMquaman i was rethinking this before you wrote back, and i think you are right. 82 was the strike season and only so many games were shown in nyc at the time. i'm a cowboys fan and all their playoffs games were shown in NYC at the time. the chargers scored the last 2 TD's of that game and beat pittsburgh in pittsbugh 31-28. it would be bradshaw's last appearance in a playoff game.

  • @nymike06 That's some good knowledge you have my friend and you're right on all fronts. i also love these days the NFL finally figured out they can use Saturdays as a way to get ALL the games shown nationally as well as the flex schedule to get the right games on although MNF has been a shit-show this season with the Jaguars seemingly on every week.butchering MNF.

  • @nymike06 if that Steelers/Chargers playoff game happened TODAY it INDEED would be on a Saturday at 4:30 or 8;00pm for all the world to see.

  • Howard Cosell's color-commentary was so unique. That's why Roone Arledge hired him. Football might not be what it is today without Howard Cosell. Cosell was an iconic combination of pioneering sports journalist, color commentator and broadcast legend.

  • brakos rules! Haven't seen this game since it was originally broadcast when I was a freshman in h.s.

  • The Steelers were by far the greatest team in NFL history.....23 Steelers won 4 SB's in 6 years, but then they also had to beat great teams like these Oilers, Raiders, Cowboys, Vikings, Dolphins - there were so many more great teams back then - todays NFL sucks compared to the late 70's.

  • you are the man brakos, this was two years before i was born, but i love seeing old Steeler games whenever i can

  • Thanx for posting these oldies. I'm a Steeler fan from way back. I was 11 when this game was played so I wasn't allowed to stay up and watch it. But I had a 12" black and white TV: jerry-rigged with rabbit ears and aluminum foil. After I popped on the ear plugs and closed my bedroom door, you'd never know I wasn't sleeping.

  • Props to the fella's who put these games up from this era. I was all but 8 years old at the time of this game but LOVED the Oilers back then. The 2 posters in my room were of Earl Campbell and John Jefferson. LOL. I live in the central time zone and every Monday Night was the same ol song and dance. Parents would tell me I could stay up late and watch the whole game. Midway through the 3rd quarter I'd start falling asleep and pops would kick my ass off to bed. Ah, the good ol days.

  • What has to happen is this: The Texans have to move to San Antonio, they would love having an NFL team. Someone has to go to Bud Adams, who owns the likenesses and name "Oilers", and make him an offer he cant refuse for them. Then an NFL team thinking of moving, like Minnesota, comes to Houston. They are promised a huge paycheck if they promise to wear Oiler blue. A wealthy person, lots of them in TX and lots of them would love to see the return of the Oilers, has to buy the new team.

  • @captainamerica1967us Not... Minnesota... :O

  • Bum Phillips, Dan Pastorini, and THE MAN Earl Campbell! I was 9 watching this in Dickinson Texas. My folks let me stay up late as I lived and breathed Oilers football. A simpler time, a better time. BTW GOD!!!! I hated the Steelers and still do because of this rivalry.

  • I saw this game. I was 13. What great memories. The Oilers won this game, but the Steelers won the rematch in the AFC Championship game, in a controversial "no touchdown" call that could not be reviewed by replay in those days. Great game, great times.

  • I remember this game. I was (and still am) a Steelers fan, and this was the first full Steelers game I ever watched - and I was bummed almost to tears that the Steelers lost - I was only 12 years old. I was bummed that the onside kick went against the Steelers when it appeared they should have had it. The next day at school my group of friends, most of whom where Oilers fans, just rubbed it in. But we got the last laugh as the Steelers won the SB. I hated the Oilers, but miss the rivalry now.

  • FRAN TARKENTON???

  • LOL. What a terrible kickoff by toni fritsch.

  • Awesome thanks for uploading my old memories.

  • MNF was so exciting back then--"LIVE, from the Astrodome in Houston."

  • It's a pity the Oilers are no more. I realize the franchise moved to my home state, but I couldn't care less.

  • @7747jc Yes it would have been nice if the Houstan Texans could have brought back The Houston Oilers name and uniforms instead.

  • @CelestialWoodway ...Bud Adams owns the Oilers records, colors, history, etc. and he wouldn't allow the new Houston team (Texans) to use anything related to the old Oilers.

  • @CelestialWoodway i agree fully........maybe cause i was born in the 60's! lol....big steelers fan but i have a deep respect for the oilers and raiders....as i should.....

  • @CelestialWoodway They would have no legal rights to that. The Oilers moved to Tennessee and have the rights to the franchise and all elements related to the Oilers. Hence, a new franchise and name needed to be created for the new team. The Tennessee team retains all rights to the Oilers.

  • I was at this game!

  • It's the Steelers and Cosell. What more could I ask for?

  • curly culp and elvin bethea wow this brings back great memories........not many teams came in to houston and out played the oilers back then...comeon TEXANS!!!!

  • OMG....I remember this game. I watched about 3/4ths of the game but then had to go to bed to get up for school. The next morning one of my Steeler buddies told me on the school bus about the end game onside kick controversy (part 12 of 13). Thanks for posting!

  • @CaptNemo100 lol me also....i was 12 years old and i had to go to bed.....but unlike you.....i secretly listened to the end of the game on a small radio under the covers ! the good old days ! then i probably wacked off mmy little wiennie and rolled over and went to bed !

  • oilers

  • Oh God! I just died and went to Heaven!!! This is beyond AWESOME! Youtube is the best! Thank you for this precious post and all the REAL NFL football posted here.

  • I'm not really a fan of either of these teams, but its cool to see all these legendary players like Bradshaw and Franco harris, lynn swann, john stallworth, earl campbell, mike webster...mean joe, lambert, ham, shell, blount.

  • 3:33

Just look at that line up. No matter how you feel about the Steelers, that is something to be admired.

  • Wow, what a great game to upload... memories for sure. I remember trying to stay up past my 9 p.m. bedtime in order to watch MNF. This was a great rivalry during the late 70's.

  • Steeler-Oilers was a great rivalry in the 70's and 80's

  • Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers number 1

  • Thanks brakos82. This game brings back so many memories. I remember this game and waiting all week for it to take place. My mom and dad letting us kids stay up to watch its conclusion. Have always been a Cleveland Browns fan, but these two being in our division and hating the Steelers, having a soft spot for the Oilers fans, their fight song, and Earl Campbell.....well it was a great game to watch. Thanks Again.

  • Thank you brakos82 for uploading this whole game. The Houston Oilers were my favorite team and Earl Campbell is my all time favorite player. Again thanks for posting this.
