I'm like to thank you, I asked for help a while back on how to find my local SCA, and after a while I got up enough courage to go to a Kingdom event.....but had to leave for personal reasons. I trying again this past weekend, I went to an event my local group does, and it was AWESOME! There was fighting, and kife throwing, and then a feast, and dancing, and the coolest part was the bardic circle, I got the pleasure of meeting some amazing bards and amazing people, so thank you for your help!
I've not been impressed with the SCA in the past - those training sessions and events I've attended simply not been up to the standards I've experienced from the NFPS or other European groups. I've also found those members of the SCA I've met to be rather snobbish and insular. However, no matter what group a person goes to, there's going to be bad apples and my experience might have been bad luck more than bad people. What's the view of others?
Well so far, I've failed to find any SCA members I'm not able to get along with. Bare in mind though, I'm fighting and training in England, the SCA is all over the world.
Try finding mailing lists maybe, often times local groups use them to communicate about events. If you can't find one for your group specifically, maybe try asking on a worldwide popular website, like the armor archive.
i have been wanting to join the sca for a while. I am in Louisiana. The website is awful and I have never gotten a response from an emails I sent. Any suggestions?
eddiehar, does the website at least say where your local fighter practice is? If you can find fighter practice, there will be people there that can help you.
Join some other club that does not just want you as a number but enjoys the game and wants to share the fun. There are lots of groups out there, the SCA id NOT the only game in town, maybe not even the best.
