  • I am thankful for John Green. That guy knows his way around a sentence.

  • Am I the only one who thinks John actually looks better in those nerdy glasses

  • indianapolis: confusing weather since forever.

  • About 3000 years ago, most Egyptians died by the time they were 30.

  • he-who-must-not-be-named has\had a soul and was incapable of compassion.

  • finnaly! I have gotten to today with the videos! well, it may be wrong by about four years... but still.

  • Four years and Two days later, and I'm still thankful for Hank and John. Happy Thanksgiving, guys!

  • ...is it sad that I knew the last word of Looking for Alaska without even having to look it up? No, I don't think this it is.

    DFTBA.

  • Thanksgiving is coming again and I am reminded of how much I am grateful for, including the wonderful community of Nerdfighters here on YouTube and in My Pants. You all are wonderful. Thank you, John, for being thankful for us too!

  • John had hipster glasses

    before they were cool

  • Is it just me or do you never blink in your videos... /

  • @koolkatkimina9 he used to, no more.

  • I just did a paper on that Faulkner quote for English class. It's probably one of the best things I've ever written just because of how much it inspired me originally, but hearing you relate it to Nerdfighteria while I watch the entirety of brotherhood 2.0 for the first time made it hold even more meaning because, now, it's significantly more personal.

  • Those glasses look weird x(

  • John got totally nerdy hotter at exactly 1:06... like hotter times 100.

  • no one "needs" to ask that question, but i think it is a good thing to do. to me, and i assume i'm not alone in this, i can get so wrapped up in the daily dissatisfaction and frustration; always feeling like there's more to be accomplished, more that i need in order to be happy. it's good, every once in a while, to step back and take a moment; to realize and acknowledge how lucky i am and how much in life i do have to be grateful for. a holiday to celebrate those things brings them into focus.

  • THE ORIGIN OF THE NERD GLASSES! win.

  • It's not Thanksgiving, not that we celebrate Thanksgiving...but I thought I'd share what I am thankful for. I am thankful that I discovered the Vlogbrothers, and that they, when I was in a bad place, reminded me to be awesome. I'm thankful that I had the courage to get a tattoo forever reminding me to never FTBA (the tattoo was DFTBA obviously) I'm also thankful for those around me that I love, and that love me.

  • When you were talking about what you're thankful for and you said The Yeti I thought "What about Henry? Oh.....right."

I may be a nerd, but I have quite a collection of dumb blonde moments.

  • I'm grateful fo being English so that every year I don't "need" to ask myself that question!!!

  • Thankful for people like you - it gives me hope for the rest of humanity.

  • Brotherhood2.0 because it changed my life :)

  • at 3:00 john winks

  • I am thankful for nerdfighteria, John, and Hank. Thanks for being awesome.

  • i miss these glasses. i wish john still wore the nerdy glasses. i like guys with nerdy glasses.

  • isn't it ironic how these glasses would now be considered hipster, not nerdy? wire frames are far more nerdy now.

  • I'm sorry, random library peruser, for watching a distracting video of such an obviously nerdy and serious man while my homework so obviously sits undone next to my laptop. Please don't think I'm too weird. He's actually quite awesome.

I bet you're looking for a really weird book.

  • So I know she forgives me, just as I forgiver her. Thomas Edison's last words were: "It's very beautiful over there." I don't know where there is, but I believe it's somewhere, and I hope it's beautiful.

Was the last paragraph of Looking for Alaska.

  • @mitout123 ahhh those words changed my life!!!!!

  • Why was he blinking so much?!

But I love the glasses. Although they're kinda distracting.

  • Ok I have been a nerdfighter for many many months but for the first time the unblinking thing has creeped me out

  • Those glasses look more hipster than nerdy, but I like them either way.

  • beautiful

  • I know this was ages ago, but I'm just saying now (cos I can) that I used to be so pessimistic, and now that I'm stuck...the way I am, Vlogbrothers and nerdfighting have been the light at the end of the tunnel. So thank you. Honestly. Thank you. *smiley face*

  • I'm pretty sure that you don't age..

  • "I'm thankful that I have [...] one beautiful Yeti." I awwwed.

  • Falkner gave me the chills

  • you think those are nerdy glasses, you should see mine :P

  • Haha John brought back nerdy glasses, shame so many douches wear them even though they don't need them

Grr @ people who aren't nerds!

  • I'm thankful for snowboarding. Without it, my winter would be a meaningless shell of suck.

I'm thankful for videogames. Without them, the rest of my seasons would follow suit of winter.

I'm thankful for my descriptive capabilities. Sorry, no examples today.

I'm thankful for Latin. It makes all my emotional statements just that much deeper.

I'm thankful for rock music. Today's youth does not recognize true musical purity.

All that on top of the obvious life, love, companionship, family, etc.

  • Well, tis the season + 3 years, so here goes something...

I'm thankful for my friend Kyle, and the fact that every time I speak to him I gain a little more hope for humanity.

I'm thankful for the fact that a couple weeks ago he spent his night telling me...well, yelling at me, really..."Stop giving up."

I'm thankful for the fact that between this and my discovery of Nerdfighteria, I'm becoming more and more inclined to listen to him.

Thanks, John and Hank. I'm not gonna give up anymore...

  • Mann I wish I had a nerdfighter T-shirt... Ima gonna make one! :D

  • I'm grateful for guys like you and Hank. You two give me the hope of finding a handsome yet nerdy guy with respect for women and the meaning of marriage. While I am only 17, I've met hundreds upon hundreds of people and none of them have come close to fulfilling those standards, aside from you two.

  • So yes I enjoy vlogbrothers videos very muh so but the more I watch and enjoy the more I feel that maybe I'm not a nerdfighter/nerd for 2 reasons. . . 1. I AM a Britney Spears fan have been since I was 16 and now 11 years later still am. . . (it is what it is) and B. I got rid of my glasses by having Lasik Eye Surgery so no more glasses for me! hmmm. . .

  • The line "And one beautiful yeti" made me very happy c:

  • I really like that clue.

  • I can't beleive i'm able to watch content this good for free.. and thankfull!

  • I couldn't do it. I'm so used to fast talking John, that I couldn't handle the slowness of this video xD

  • 0:49! YOU BLINKED, I CAUGHT YOU!!!

  • I'm belated thankful for getting to be a nerd, and for having friends to share that nerdiness with. And for chocolate chip cookies and elderflower cordial in winter and summer respectively.

  • I'm thankful for the organic section at my grocery store... in a town like this, its as close to quality as you can get :(

  • one beautiful yeti :)

  • I would like to thank you, John, for teaching me that the word "grateful" is not, in fact, spelled g-r-e-a-t-f-u-l.

  • I feel the comments section of this video has become largely about quotes, so here's a quote I'm thankful for... God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of the players, (ie everybody), to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

    -Neil Gaiman

  • for anyone who doesnt know, the last word of LFA is "beautiful".

The sentence (just for fun lol) is "Thomas Edison's last words were it's very beautiful over there, I donr know where there is, but I hope its beautiful" =D BEST BOOK EVAR!

  • I just finished reading a journal article on A Rose For Emily and this video happened to be in my suggested box. Wow Youtube you have connected to my brain. This video has gotten me excited for Thanksgiving. I am thankful to you for that.

  • looooove the glasses!

  • I'm grateful for having read "Looking For Alaska" finally! It's changed my life. :) It's 'beautiful'.

  • I'm grateful for friends and family, YouTube, Nerdfighters and awesome people, imagination and doodles. I'm also grateful for technology, weekends, writing and sleep. DFTBA!

  • Where could I find the Faulkner quote online?

  • decided to put on my nerdy glasses whilst watching this video

  • same, right now my record is 32 B2.0 videos in one day...whoot. can any nerdfighters help me build a time machine to go back to January 1st 2007?!

  • i miss not finding these till after it was done so i cant partisipate in anything but i like being able to do like 20 videos a day instead of 1 a day

  • "Problem--Solved" was the best thing I've seen all day.

  • I am grateful for the support of my family and the positive views and opinions of fellow nerdfigthers.

  • I am grateful that there are funny guys like you out there who make great videos like this and are smart enugh to put them on youtube so I can laugh my ass off =D

  • I am grateful for Russia. Because Russia gave us theater nerds Realism in theater, and however hard it is to understand and work with, it is beautiful when performed correctly, and without it, thespians everywhere would be at the mercy of crack-pots.

I am grateful for the Egyptians, who invented paparus, and helped great creations come to be in the physical world by giving them a median to work upon.

And I am grateful for imagination, which gives more then Realism and paprus combined DFTBA

  • 1:08 - very Hank-ish moment!

  • I'm grateful for my family, because without them I'd be in a far worse off state of mind. I'm thankful for my cats, because they're like my best friends (yes, I'm that weird). I'm thankful for doctors, and researchers and nurses and the medical field for finding cures to sicknesses, and researching more. I'm thankful for you guys for making it cool to be a nerd. I'm thankful for my home, because it's comfortable. I have more things I'm thankful for that I just can't think of them right now :)

  • I am greatful to my mind, to th beautiful world around us, and to these people here, who are significantly decresing world suck.

I am greatful to everyone who uses their brains.

I am greatful to all who try to better their world with their talents.

  • Nerdfighters make me grateful every day, as does this vlog. I know it's old, but still I love it and John and Hank have truly changed me.

And beautiful, John. I just had to say it. Beautiful.

(the last paragraph of Looking for Alaska made me cry, by the way.) <3

  • These glasses are truly nerdy

  • These are so nerdy... I like them. Lol I love him.

  • I'm grateful for everything.

Even when things are bad, I like to think that there are still enough amazing things in the world to keep things in balance. Even something as simple as electricity. Most people just flip a switch and expect the light to turn on, I'm just grateful that we've come this far. And I just remember, things could always be much worse.

  • When you say everything, do you mean like everything, everything, like sickness and stuff?

I guess having sickness makes the healthy people grateful for not being sicl, so maybe that's something to be grateful about?

  • I guess I could have phrased it better, but no, not everything. There are just too many amazing things that I couldn't fit into this comment.

  • Joining Nerdfighters has definatly made me more optimistic. ^_^

  • beautiful is that last word

  • wow I''ve just noticed, that he never blinks...

  • yeah he does.

  • at 0:54

  • I just wanted to let you know that this video is the only thing that can make my nephew stop crying. INFANT NERDFIGHTERS ARE AWESOME!

  • I realized that you, Hank, and the rest of my fellow Nerdfighters have also made me more optimistic. I find myself thinking anything's possible when you're united under an awesome power. I find myself looking at people differently, like, some strange kid I always sort of looked down on isn't strange anymore; maybe they're all Nerdfighters. And I've also realized that nerds are the best kinds of people, in general: the people who are smart and funny and awesome. SO, NERDS OF THE WORLD: UNITE!!!

  • Same here.

Let's just say before I used to be somewhat of a nihilist. And even at times a pessimist. But times are changing.

And I thank John and Hank for that.

  • I'm grateful for glasses that help us see. What if we didn't have glasses?

  • lol i think about that all the time.

i mean seriously, how much would that suck??

  • I know! how limited we would be!

  • I personally would not be able read without glasses , which would be like bnot being able to breath.

    which means I would die.

  • You're lucky though. I would much rather only have to wear glasses to read, as opposed to having to wear them pretty much all of the time.

  • love the new glasses.

  • lol so nerdy i love it

  • THIS UPSETS ME

this video has been view 32,989 times

and it has only 330 comments

331 if youtube isn't lagging and counting mine

    WHY DON'T PEOPLE COMMENT?!?!?

  • Because they're to busy trying to catch up with all the Brotherhood 2.0 videos!

  • the last word in "looking for alaska" is beautiful. literally.

  • Comment 228:

I'm grateful for Brotherhood 2.0 and my easy accessability to cheap Champagne.

  • why did u put Comment 228?

  • crap i clicked 4 stars instead of 5.

  • your glasses need tape wrapped around the bridge.

  • And.... what was the last word in the looking for alaska or whatever it was?

  • beautiful

  • i am grateful for how awesome u look in those glasses!!

  • lo - i thi - I'm sorry I can't stop staring at the glasses. :)

  • and it's also the day of my birthday haha (Y)

  • Mine too! Yay!

  • i love hank and john. :]

  • *sigh* I love nerdfighters.

  • I, like espifreak, reply from the Thanksgiving of the future:

I'm thankful for my friends who have been there for me whenever the times get good or get bad; my family who is there for me 100% in what I do; for my faith that has kept me going through some rough roads; the ability to think and speak and act how I want and not fear oppresive reprecussions; song and spoken word/poetry; the Interwebs and the non-trolls; nerdfighters; ukeleles; intellect and reason; and the ability to live and love.

  • I reply from Thanksgiving in the future:

My pals, who are abundantly patient with me, my sister Janice who has always been and always will be my best friend, that my family is (physically) healthy, my dogs who never fail to make me smile, that I haven't given up on writing like I have on so much else, that I gave The Socerer's Stone a chance all those years ago, as bad as my vision is, I'm glad to have it, as well as the full use of my hands and that I'm getting a new president for my b-day.

  • I'm grateful for YouTube. And all of the joy it has brought me.

Chuck Palahniuk, my friends, music, and books.

I've always been a fan of music and books, but I've really started getting into them lately.

  • I love your nerd glasses!

    my glasses aren't very nerdy...

and I have contacts so I don't even wear hem that often...

  • I love those glasses. Mmm...smexy!

  • you look good with those glasses

  • I love your (not so) new glasses.

  • Hot damn you look good with the nerdier glasses!

in coincidence, i was also wearing the same pair of nerdy glasses as you ^_^

  • Yuss. The new glasses. I couldn't remember when you got them.

  • beautiful

  • I feel really dumb, but YOU LIVE IN INDIANAPOLIS. OME I used to live in Terre Haute... INDIANA IS AWESOME!

  • John when if I ever grow up I want to be you [and Hank (combined)] If its possible for the human body to handle that much awesome =]

  • DUDE!! That was from Faulkner's Nobel prize acceptance speech. That is my favorite speech of all time, so far. I'm also thankful for Faulkner.

  • "..And I'm in weirdly warm Indianapolis."

Yeah, last year was weirdly warm in central Indiana. I hardly wore my winter coat.

Your glasses kind of remind me of my papaw's glasses in the 1950's. He was kind of a nerd...

  • not the right time of year, but I'm thankful for working toilets and showers on my floor. We don't have them sometimes. And maybe the washing machine and dryer will be fixed soon. But there is another set in the building, so that's good.

  • To be honest, I like "nerdy" glasses better. Not because they're nerdy(-er), but because I just really think glasses look way better when they're making a statement instead of failing to be inconspicuous, which is plain boring.

On a different note, this is a very sweet video, yet you kinda freaked me out staring at the cam with such determination while quoting Faulkner.

  • John, please show us the yetti...please!!!

  • As I Lay Dying to the END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the nerdy glasses.

  • Love the glasses. I've now watched my 100th nerdfighter video-I'm going through all of them backwards.

  • I don't need glasses, but I WANT nerdy glasses. Dilemma?

  • stare at a laser pointer for a few minutes... you'll need em then lol

  • I knew I was getting that sonic screwdriver for a reason...!

  • even though its less than a year for this video, i still checked my copy of Looking for Alaska :)

    Beautiful :D

I've nearly watched all the B2.0 videos :D

    yay!

  • I adore your glasses, John.

    I love you! =]

  • John, you are quite inspiring.

  • These glasses are nerdy.

    I like them.

    lol

  • wait til december

  • I live in beautiful Hickory, NC where the sun doth shine...way the hell too much. We're in the south, I get it, but I'm only like 45 minutes away from places that always gets snow in the winter (Boone, Blowing Rock, other mountainous places), and yet I haven't seen a real snow in four years.

Ahhh, the Piedmont of NC, you disgust me.

Alright, nevermind, I kind of like you.

I'm thankful for my snow every four years

  • Wow, Hickory? How funny, I am a huge fan of Last Comic Standing and have therefore heard of your town. That is truely odd.

  • That's cool, I live in something of an eqivalent of your town, only it's in CA. We get snow every few years and not very much, which is nice because snow in excess is cumbersome. Then drive uphill for forty minutes in winter and there's three feet of it. Drive two hours and you get to the ski resorts in the thick of the Sierra Mountains.

    Yay for convenient foothills.

  • is a happy dance awsome and; if not, could there be an awsome dance? Also if happy dances are awsome than could it be possible that when performing a happy dance you are acctually filling the air and O-zone layer with awsome?

  • So.

    Those glasses are hot.

  • i love the glassessssssss!

  • i love you

  • last word *cough*beautiful*cough*

love that book. i know its to late now haha

  • i wanted to get glasses similar to the ones on your face right now.

but when i went to the eye doctor to pick out my frames the woman was like "oh no hun, those are the men's eye ware."

  • im gratefull for chocolate mmm chocolate

  • i <3 glasses of john

  • Glasses aren't that nerdy. :P Alot of people look better with them, than without them.

  • uh...

he mentions that he's married to the Yeti in like... all his videos.

    are you new here?

  • It hasn't snowed in phoenix since dec. 6 1998

  • Try living in Louisiana.

    No snow EVER.

    Not kidding.

It hasn't snowed here since New Years 2001.

  • omg, it sounds so NICE! I HATE coldness! but that may be because i'm shivering 3/4's of the year. not even kidding. and its not even all THAT cold in oregon...i think its just me.

  • I'm grateful to be alive...

But at the moment I'm grateful that I started watching the vlogbrothers.

They are truely made of awesome!.

  • i am grateful to brotherhood 2.0 for introducing me to the awesomeness of john and hank green, aswell as nerdfighters DFTBA

  • to be completely honest, I thought your old frames were more nerdy than your new frames...'cause your new frames are kind of hip and modern "think frames are in, thick frames are emo" please don't be emo. But actually, since you are compiled of pure awesomeness, I guess in that sense, the glasses are indeed nerdy.

NERDFIGHTERS! ftw. I am grateful for youtube...and all encompassing components that make up my life - both bad and good have shaped me to become who I am, and for that I am thankful.

  • those are such sick glasses, i am looking forward to get glasses similar to those!

  • i am thankful for my friends who make my life worth living cuz my family is dull and think im an asshole!!!

  • are those girls glasses?.....

  • Despite the fact that I know that the scavenger hunt is over, I still immediately tore down the stairs for my copy of "Looking for Alaska" (sadly worn with use) to discover that my initial thought was correct and the last word is "beautiful". Anyway, you said that it would possibly never snow again in human history. Can you really say history if it hasn't happened? I mean, it will be one day, especially if man prevails forever, but it isn't now. Is it?

  • And to show how much of a hard core nerdfighter I am, I've tried and failed to post this comment three times (the first I had exceeded comment limit, the second I had incorrectly entered the letters, and the third I entered them wrong -- again. I need cool nerd glasses), but I finally got it. I needed to be heard, I guess, on an old video. I will not only endure, but prevail! (Yeah, Faulkner knows his way around a sentence all right.)

  • I love going back and watching these videos. And this one made me miss the scavenger hunt! That was fun.

  • A beautiful yeti =]

  • Power to the Nerds with glasses! I am hopelessly devoted to John Green...

  • nerdfighting is definitely something to be thankful for. so is haryy potter and the joy of friendship. :]]]]

  • your reading excerpts from big names like faulkner help me in my battle against ignorance. thanks ^__^

  • haha i love what you said about awesome levels decreasing when it's knowledge of britney spears.

  • I know this is very, very late but the last word of Looking for Alaska is 'beautiful.' I am thankful for Nerdfighting. Yay!

  • althought thanksgiving isn't celebrated in ireland...i'm thankful for the facts its not raining and that your new glasses appear to have made you stop blinking

    and of course, for nerdfighting:D

  • haha thats a good point he doesnt blink as juch now

  • I'm grateful for nerdy glasses everywhere

  • I liked your old glasses better. Even if they weren't quite as nerdy (when I say nerdy I mean awesome of course)

  • Hank, John.

    I just got home.

    And I just got glasses.

If I was not a Nerdfighter before (and I was), I sure am now!

  • congrats!

  • Haha thanks. Thank goodness glasses are cool now.

  • I love those glasses. Mmm...smexy!
