Looking forward to the video about once you get all the baby proofing stuff installed. We will be doing that very soon as well. Colton is already into the dogs water and food dishes. If I have him on the floor in the kitchen with it it's the first thing he goes for LOL
I'm going through the exact same thing currently. My little one just started crawling and pulling up on everything however she hasn't discovered the dog bowls YET. I have hardwood through out my house also and I hate when she falls on it. Do you have any tips for what you have done with your floor to make the impact easier.
@mikiecass Yeah we have hardwood floors too, but I am just sick of changing his clothes each time he deciedes to take a swim. Right now we have just moved his bowls to the bathroom and the baby never sees them there.
The couple I babysit for have a small dog and a to keep their baby out of the food and water they've put both dishes inside their pantry but put a doggy door on the pantry door so the dog is free to go in and out to eat/drink whenever, but the baby cant get in....I dont know if you have a pantry that you could do that with, but it would work even if you had a laundry room or a bathroom or anywhere like that
Oh, the joys of baby proofing. With Lee we had a "banister shield" for our 2nd floor play room. Now for the top of the stair was a wood retractable (screw mounted) and swing open & closed. Very similar to what you described in your video. I am the same way, I do not want gates and such laying around & having to "recenter" it and mount it each time.
I wish that retractable one came in a large width for my walkway between the living room and where the bathroom and stairs are. We can't put one on our banister because we rent, so I can't drill into the banister.
Will you show a picture of of the non banister drilling option?
@hazeldream1984 I will actually do a video once we have the gate installed and I can totally show it to you... otherwise there is a link under my video that shows a picture of the non banister drilling option
A babyproofing company that came to our house siad that you can get a harth cover that is backed with steal/metal. The guy said the kind of bumper that you buy at a store doesn't work as well. So we are having the company install the metal backed kind for $190. You might check with some companies in your area.
I love the magnetic locks! The only thing I didn't like was that my cabinets were so thick that we had to drill a hole on the inside of the door so the metal was a little closer to the outside. As for the dog food, with my last child I just continually cleaned up dog food and water for a couple months until he lost interest :o)
@TinaDeanette Ooo I hope our cabinets are okay... and yeah we just moved the bowls to the bathroom for now... hopefully out of sight, out of mind works for him
I would either get a bathmat to put it on like the new one that bed bath and beyond or get one that Spencer has to step on the leaver to dispense a little water and then hope that porter doesn't discover how to get it to pour
@thebubblelush Right now we are thinking of just moving them to the bathroom because Porter doesn't go in there at all.... yet... so obviously we don't have a permanent solution just yet
We had the magnetic locks (but a different brand) and they were fantastic! we kept the magnetic key stuck onto the range above the stove to avoid losing it and always having it somewhere convenient. If it's like our it should just stick on their like a magnet give it a shot!
Thanks for sharing...we are going shopping for babyproofing stuff this weekend but Im thinking about buying the magnetic locks online. cant wait to see it all installed.
@BaileyandPypersmom They have them on diapers.com... if you haven't shopped there make sure to use my InfoMom code to get 15% off... they aren't the cheapest thing
can u do a review when u get it?? I am having the same problem with my 18 month old daughter. we have 15 stairs and she doesn't go up or down without supervision. like u do we just lay our gate becuse my husband is like yours. He doesn't want to install 1 at the bottom however we have installed one at the top

I am excited to get the magnetic cabinet locks since we live on a military base we can't drill holes in the cabinets ... our house in Germany had handles on the cabinet doors so I just had those locks that you loop through the two handles but they won't work on our new house :)
Also, I had the same issue with the dogs water bowl ... we have a chihuaha (sp) so she definitely couldnt reach a high water bowl ... I just had to continually redirect my daughter until she learned that was a no no :)
@BrookeButcher1987 They would be great for that !! We think we may have to move his bowl to another room that the baby can't get to... it's annoying though... that's for sure
We were having the same problem with our cat food and water. My little one likes to eat the cat food and spill the water.
We have a free standing cabnet and a huge standing deepfreeze that block off a corner. Baby can't get there, but the cats can.
I know that probably wasn't much help, but we found that "Out of site, out of mind" worked for us. Maybe you could move the dog food somewhere the little one doesn't go.
@new0428mommy Ooo no good with eating cat food... We think we may have to try to move the dishes to our bathroom, the baby doesn't go in there.... yet :)

@Shannindhall Yaeh I totally agree... I think if the gate can "hide away" and not lay around, it's way better :)

Hannah LOVES splashing in the water bowl... Our dogs are short too, so elevation isn't going to work. If you figure out a solution - let me know.
