My Grandpa picked me up and I went back to their house for breakfast. While I was outside, she saw my paper and started reading it.
"Is it true...are you really, gay?" She asked. And I just nodded.
She hasn't said anything else about it but doesn't seem to treat me any different. So I guess it was shock.

That was sweet, but I think you were kind of an asshole for mocking her when she called it "homosexual". "Homosexual" may arguably be an archaic term, and it may sound like a disease to you, but that's your own hangup. It's a completely acceptable and neutral scientific term, just like "Heterosexual". She sounds like a beautiful lady, and you were an insolent little snot right there. Get her some flowers and apologize.

I've got uber-Roman Catholic 93 year-old aunt who scolds me for being open, is nosy about what I do for Church. When I told her I was Unitarian church she asked me if the Catholic Church wasn't good enough for me. I with the Vatican describing people like me as "intrinsically disordered toward evil", it was obvious that they feels I'm not good enough for them and that I'm not welcome there. Then I told her. "Auntie, I don't go where I'm not wanted." That shut her up.
