  • i do prefer the irish lass, or scottish even to the german woman. lots of german women around here where i live, and they are all fat as barrels.

  • She's incredible with a violin

  • Scott Mumby-- just read your comment--ahhhh nobody could have said it better --

  • a little angel with a "fiddle"-- amazing

  • I aspire to one day play as magnificently as Mairead. This dream will never come true for me, though. No one can play like her.

  • eargasm

  • Breathless...

  • Thief ! Thief !

She took my breath away !!

  • Gotta love American Folk songs.

  • Hearing this brings back memories. I honestly love hearing this song again, specially on a violin. Couldn't help but sing what I remember :)

  • Mairead you are not just playing the violin, you make it sing :D it's truly beautiful

  • outstanding looks and all that talent. wow A rose is just a rose. this one is IRISH !

  • you are not a musician...you simply know how to fill heart with sweetness

  • At my school when we did solo and ensamble for choir that was one of the songs that some of my friends sang

  • I was and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, I truley appreciate this beautiful rendition of the valley!

  • My ear's and heart have heard .......heaven!

  • my dad used to love this. just for the women performers :-)

  • an angel on stage...

  • This reminds me of elementary and my hometown with the almond orchards and pumpkin patches and strawberry fields.. we sang this song in chorus =P

  • Mairead makes playing the violin look as easy as breathing. Of course, for her, it probably is. :)

  • She looks like a dancing flower

  • Very passionate violin playing."sigh" how can you not be in awe,

  • Absolutely beautiful. The chills as music is played with such heart n soul. Makes me want to visit the home country. Such beauty n enthralment speaks to your heart

  • I actually sand this with my gay choir not to recently. I love it better with just a violin.

  • wich celtic woman is this??? if it's chole then yea buddy u fresh!!!

  • Everione below....... She is awesome!!!!!

  • I can't stand all those movements.... It's not graceful, it looks ridiculous.

  • @PhiloAmericana I hope you are kidding. Celtic musicians move and dance to the music, if you can't except their style, just listen.

  • @IntoTheMystical It's not movement itself. It's the nature and style of the movement. As I said, it looks ridiculous.

  • @PhiloAmericana She's playing through her heart and soul, it's not common enough to find amazing musicians that play with such emotion without it feeling forced for the audience. Would you rather she stand there like a statue? You can tell she really means what she plays and you can sense that in her body, she literally shows us every note as well as simply playing it. That aside, a great performance. Such an enthralling piece.

  • @PhiloAmericana To slander the Fiddle Fairy is to risk a horde of ravaging Pixies looking for payback....

  • @PhiloAmericana

There is a simple solution. Don't watch, just listen. Honestly, you should not have the right to comment on videos if you are going to be rude.

  • Anyone else get chills from Mairead's beatiful playing?

  • If you ask me your worse than a bunch of kids, just enjoy these very talented ladies.

  • Thank you for making my day..

  • If I were to die tomorrow, I would eschew heaven and ask to be reborn as a fiddle, to live under that chin, singing such sweet music! Yeah!

  • @scottmumby I would say the same.

  • @scottmumby I'd rather come back as her dress.

  • i love her. shes my inspiration to learn the violin

  • hmmm...Mairead is a hot little thing

  • @TheStormchaser1 I take it you are trying to master the non sequitur.

  • @TheStormchaser1 No, I listen to music for it's beauty and perfection, I like to watch videos to see the skill of the performance. I don't care about dresses and panties.

    I'm not gay. Sorry.

  • @TheStormchaser1 Since you dislike music videos based on dresses and underwear, I guess you can make that judgement. Have you tried Adam Lambert videos? He probably wears some lovely things.

  • @TheStormchaser1...So you come here to listen to Mairead play the violin and all you can comment on is the dress....You've got to be kidding....

  • @gaeilge1O1 And, all you do is come here and make a dumb comment... You've got to be kidding....

  • @gaeilge1O1 @The Stormchaser1 just proves that there is nothing more annoying than an half literate kid with a computer.

  • Her passion for playing is unbelievable! Love this.

  • Mairead, I have loved your intense playing since river dance. Such emotion.

  • AAAah-mazing playing and so beautiful. 40 years in the business (Opera in Germany) & still find new heights in the music world. Congratulations also to the celtic women (girls) ...

  • yeah feel the music! <3 1:42

  • Does anyone know the original key for this song? I've quite a few and it's quite jarring at times.

  • what a tribute to one of Americas greatest folk songs - although she may not know it - she's pays tribute to every soldier who fought in the Civil War when she plays this hauntingly beautiful melody. She has a truly unique style of holding her violin bow, it certainly works for her - it's all a matter of balance and I'm certain that's a custom made (and balanced) bow - made just for her - after all - she is the best.

  • @sgtcombs029...Yes the bow was made for her....The violin is a 300+ year old instrument made Mathias Albanus it was a gift from a friend...Neither the violin nor the bow leave her side...when she fell while performing in Chicago he first thoughts were..."My baby was safe and unhurt, and I wasn't either"...

  • @sgtcombs029...Also the way she hold the bow gives her greater control as she moves, dances and jumps around the stage....

  • LIKE!

  • my dads been dropping hints that he might get me a violin YES!!!!! but i'll have a lot to learn if i wanna be able to play like mairead

  • @WORMIE4456W good luck :-)

  • @LalaLunatic and that include dancing without missing a beat

  • she's like a fairy... an adorable one.

  • How do you play like that holding your bow off position lol

  • If you watch the scene from 2:18 on, you will notice that she loves this song as much when she is playing it like we do when listening to her. Totally incredible impression and happy smile on her face on the last few notes of the song. I absolutely adore her. What a spirit.

  • pause at 0:28 :)

  • @simbaspyro OK ... so why did I just break the mood of a beautiful song by pausing it.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat i was hiper on apple juice, and my computer kept on freezing and it paused on that and i thought it looked quite funny

  • Gosh, I love her...I've been going through these trying to find the best one of Mairead and I can't choose. Should I pick "Granuaile's Dance," "The Butterfly" or this one?

  • Oh my love:)

  • That was very well done!!!

  • I wonder why she holds her bow weird?

  • @GoddessOfTheMoons After listening to her play, I'd say she holds her bow perfectly.

  • @GoddessOfTheMoons shes not holding it weird. She's got a proper hand, shes just got it a bit up the bow see? Fiddle players are a mite less strict than the violin players. It probably allows for better and swifter transitioning. As a violin/fiddle player me self thats the only reason why i'd hold a bow like that.

  • @0t0ku Ok thank you : )

  • @GoddessOfTheMoons...Her way of holding the bow..."above the frog" is used by many fiddlers who move around as they play...Gives her more control of the bow, less chance of the bow "bouncing" as she runs and jumps around the stage...

  • @gaeilge1O1 Ok. Thank you very much : )

  • She cute with the violin... She's enjoying playing the music and performing... She reminds me of Tinkerbell abit with her outfit and energetic self...

  • I saw Celtic Women in concert, absolute beauty.

  • Seems you can tell which are the best videos. The greatest performances and songs will always be covered with trolls and nuts trying to bring everything down to their level.

Mairead just gives this very old song new life. I wish everyone had a heart to feel it's beauty and power.

  • love the violin, just a little over dramatic, i was too focused on the dancing than the violin. she should cut it down a little

  • @Singingforyouful A Celtic musician like Mairead Nesbitt feels the music in a specific way, then translates those feelings into movement. She really couldn't stop moving, it's vital to her performance of the song.

You might want to Google her, she has a very impressive bio.

  • @Singingforyouful If you're so distracted by the dancing, just minimize the window. :] It's a hallmark of Mairead's playing that she dances that way [Note that every dress she wears onstage is designed so that she can move].

  • I play the violen and thats not an easy song to play

she does is so beautifuly and angelic.

  • what a showgirl ..

  • cest tellement beau!

  • I met Mairead and she is the sweetest, nicest person!! actually all the celtic woman are!! Such talented girls! <3

  • Very pretty. I do not believe she is "overplaying it" at all. BTW, that is not a violin, that is a fiddle.

  • @ti412001....No it's a violin...whether she is playing classical or traditional the instrument is still a violin....Her violin is over 300 years old, I don't think old Mathias was thinking of fiddling when he built it...The only difference could be that some "fiddlers" do "shave" the bridge down so it has less arch, otherwise still the same....What makes a violin a fiddle is just the manner of playing, nothing to do with the instrument itself...

  • @gordbard52...No such thing has ever happened....I've been with them since 2004, when they started...

  • @gaeilge1O1 My word! I didn't expect such a negative response. It's only something I read. I didn't make the original comment!

  • @gaeilge1O1 By the way, what do you mean when you say you've been 'with them?'

  • Nice arrangement

  • America's Got Talent?

    HA !!!!!

America has as much talent COMBINED as Mairead has in her little pinky.

  • I've always loved Shenandoah but this version is just absolutely.phenomenal!

  • perfect

  • This is very beautiful

  • Beautifully played, love it, and the song.

  • Mairead always puts so much energy into her playing. She's so adorable!

  • this was my daddy's favorite song. RIP love and miss you very much!

  • Pixie :D

  • Romantik pur :-)

  • how can someone dislike these women

  • Vegas shite

  • Wow she holds the bow differently! I had never seen this bow hold, but works for her nicely ^^ Maybe I should give a try too hehe

  • shes so cute when she smiles and i love her facial expressions as she plays

  • the instrument and music is telling a story

  • Seriously Mairead... Marry me!!:)

  • @meholla83 Sorry she is already married and has a child.

  • @theart1rm Do you have a link for that? She always says she is single.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat No I don't. I just recall a comment on one of the videos "Maybe the Dueiling Violins", I can't recall. The comment said she fell and busted her butt really hard while dancing somewhere. A statement was released saying that Both Mairead and baby where unharmed. Maybe she isn't married. But I don't think that person would have posted the comment if it weren't true. She fell down during a violin duel while she was pregnant, but neither were hurt. I just assumed she was married

  • @theart1rm I think you will understant that statement if you search for this video:

Celtic Woman - Mairead Interview Part 1

She calls her violin my "baby" because she takes such good care of it. When she fell on stage they said Mairead and "baby" were fine, meaning her 300 year old violin..

No one really know's if she has ever been married, but a real baby would be hard to hide. She has performed all year long every year since the mid 90's.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat Ok thanks for the info. I understand now.

  • @theart1rm...The 'baby" referred to in that article is her violin...She has actually fallen twice in stage...once in Tempe, Arizona at the Gammage auditorium, Mairead referred to it as the damage in Gammage...she was on crutches for awhile...she fell in Chicago too but wasn't hurt. Her baby (vioin) wasn't hurt either time....FYI she has never been married and doesn't have children either...

  • @gaeilge1O1 I know. TripBoomLikeThat already set me straight on that.

  • she can make anyone smile

  • @Glaceon2090...No she is NOT mute...if you watch Celtic Woman-Let it Snow, you can hear her speak at the end...

  • @Glaceon2090 No, she talks. She can probably sing too, but clearly the violin is perfect for her.

  • She takes her bow absolutely wrong. Whewre I can find the sript of this piece?

  • @Yelanahaya...She does not hold her bow wrong....Obviously you haven't seen too many traditional fiddlers...Her holding her bow above the frog helps with control and bow speed....

  • @gaeilge1O1 She is holding it a bit higher than usual but a lot of fiddlers hold the bow differently.

  • @brigglerox...that's what I said...

  • @Yelanahaya How can you say she holds her bow wrong after seeing her play? With the amount of talent she has, maybe she's the only one who holds her bow right!

  • @ cccrater63, where can I find the 2nd half?

  • @mel1850 Search for "Shenandoah-The Pacific Slope Part 2 By Mairead Nesbitt "

  • I got the honor to see Celtic Woman live and they are even better in person!! Mairead is an absolute phenom gem on the fiddle!!! :)

  • @FlipperJones75 How about you be respectful and listen to the music? And if you don't like instrumentals, WHY are you listening to this one?! O.o

  • When Mairead and her ancient violin play Shenandoah, I hear every word of the song.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat Yes Sir I have to concur!

  • how about you sing the song already lady.

  • @FlipperJones75.....It's called an instrumental for a reason...

  • tears of joy

  • She makes me think of a cute little dancing sprite.

  • @SpiritedxAway

c: Everytime I watch videos with her in them, I think the same thing.

    A pretty little fairy with a violin.~

  • @Soullesschii Wow, you couldn't have been any gayer.

  • @warrkrymez

Wow, you must actually think that's an insult.

  • the sweet cry of her violin...is just too soothing. * v *

  • i love the fact that they give her solos and all that

  • married me..

  • Mesmerizing!

  • after watching so many videos of her, I start to think she can't speak since she always lets the music speak for her. Kinda reminds me of Tinkerbell haha :)

  • @squidy2343...Yes it does seem like that doesn't it.... She did however speak in one performance...if you search for Celtic Woman-Let it Snow, Mairead in a very sexy voice says the last line of the song....

  • @squidy2343 she actually sang a Irish song in her solo album "Raining Up", and she usually introduce the song You Raise Me Up while touring in US.

  • Simply OUTSTANDING!

  • Absolutely beautiful..

  • Beautiful and somehow sad melody.

  • Ive always wanted to play on the violin!!

  • 30 people missed the like button by accident...

  • @MrBeastclouds

It is an American Frontier song. It is song meant to be played or sang for emotion. Over theatrical? I think not. It is a simple song, but it is meant to be played with feeling. Pop nonsense? Maybe you need to look up the song lyrics. "Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you. Away, you rolling river. Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you. Away, I'm bound away, cross the wide Missouri." They're leaving home. They long to hear the Shenandoah. Think intelligently next time.

  • @choirgeek11...Thank you And Mairead plays this piece with the emotion that the song demands....When you listen to her play you are hearing her soul. She said herself in an interview that she just can't stand or sit and play, she has to move with the music....
