@rudis323 ----That LED thing is just a small steel bolt with 30ga wire wrapped on it. The LED just attached to the ends of the wire. The spinning magnets induce a current in the coil and make the LED light up.

I'm experimenting with a very similiar set up. Can your rotor spin without the solid core coil? If it doesn't, would it spin with a permanent magnet in place of the coil?

It looks like a Newman motor but the drive coil on the bottom is just a soild core electromagnet. The motor is very simple but also very inefficient.
