  • the guy won a grammy all because the damn piece of carpet underneath the speakers :D

  • Excelent video!

  • Too old..

  • the interviewer is a bit too excited

  • If yo are interested in photograph ,you can browse my channel ,wish you like it and sub it .welcome to share the recources with each other.Thank you very much.

  • watcha mean no smoking?!!! thats the whole point about a recording studio to be calm to feel the music..plus i seen better studios...!!!!

  • you may be great but that's one sloppy patch panel

  • analougue by definition is actually a degraded/distorted/warped/magnetic crushed version of digital. Digital by definition is a perfect 1 to 1 copy everytime.

If you like the affect of recording onto tape you like it a little warmed and mushed, and that is fine but i'm telling you now digital is better if you already have a nice sound but analougue is flaky, expensive and might just work against you.

  • @alexgowers Yea you can get psp vintage warmer to get the tape saturation and limiting now a days anyways which works great

  • haha i think stairway to heaven should have been better compressed.

  • "taub" means "deaf" in german

  • I guess electric pop music you hear in clubs for example should be recorded digitally. Music where real drum kits and guitar amplifiers etc. are being used should be recorded analog, if you have enough money off course! If you don't have enough money, just record digitally, it's better than recording nothing at all!

  • nice studio

  • Digital recording is much better than the old Analog recording Why?

    1-its much faster

    2-its more cheaper

3-anyone that likes to be producer can have his/her Virtual studio

4-after you buy an analog console after a little while you may find out that its getting a little older and then you have replce it with a new one

But in softwares most of companys have free update so your gear is always UPTODATE

5-The Digital Station makes it possible for Engineers to simulate a workplace that is impossible

  • @SolotanProduction but you can't beat the overall sound of analog. The lush warmth of analog on a good playback system can't be beat. Digital is "easier" but its "cold" sound dulls the music IMO... There's still room for both but for now Analog is king with me. I think the Foo Fighters last album was Analog Tape...

  • @mta415 yeah it was analog and it has a specific sound to it. and it was recorded in dave grohl's garage I think its their best album yet

  • can someone tell me is it legal or illegal to copy a beat/ melody of a published song, only the melody, not the words, as i want to make a song singing in a diffrent word and language. thanks!

  • @Theshofumiah1

yes Im pretty sure it is illegal to copy a melody.

  • @Theshofumiah1 I think that you can say that it's only a cover... because a cover means when you use something that already exists and make something new out of it... sorry for my bad englisch ;)

  • @Theshofumiah1 that was not ilegal about 10 years ago but after the big sucssess of producers like Dre kaney west sampling needs the owner pemisson

  • The studio guy is sort of a dick.

  • @tatesmith765 ??? I didn't pick up on any of dick from this guy.

  • 'you shouldn't be intimidated by all the knobs'. lol!

  • You can instantly hear the acoustics in the room as they progress from the outside hall to the inside--really nice, dry treatment.

I bet those Dynaudio 15s sound great in there!

  • Cubase is better than pro tools

  • @MarvelousProductions That's a horrible claim. What evidence do you have to back that up? PT finally got rid of their proprietary converters. I own Cubase LE, SX 2.2, 5, and Nuendo 4.4. I've used PT (kinda confusing after being with Stienberg for so long). Both are amazing. I would probably track using cubase/nuendo, edit and mix in PT, Fast mix down in nuendo to get ready for mastering (PT doesn't have fast mix down like cubase and nuendo).

  • Was his console analog or digital?

  • @334578band Analog with an analog to digital converter. End result... Digital. No way around it.

  • I wish he could be my mentor

  • "But it doesn't taste like spaghetti"

    Haha I found that hilarious.

  • man i would love to hang out in a recording studio and just learn everything

  • i could conduct a better interview than that douche

  • wheres part 2

  • he don't sound arrogant to me, sounds like he's sure about what he's saying and apparently knows what he's doing. Of course thats my opinion, I could be wrong (but I doubt it.)

  • The guy doing the interview sounds like a dick. just let the man explain the freaking thing.

  • @YungDickie i was just gonna say that

  • Would have been much better if the guy that is doing the interview would stop INTERRUPTING all the fucking time!

  • 2:95

    channel sliders? what a noob.

  • @jrjrkz3453 2:95?

    Bigger noob.

  • @4Esoteric4Dolphana4 yeah i deserved that. sorry.

  • @jrjrkz3453 haha all good :)

  • this host is a geek

  • Wow awesome

  • Google for :

    AAMS Auto Audio Mastering System

  • 2:03...........learning that board would be like climbing mount everest without ropes! its gotta take more than a year to master it smoothly!

  • Lol the Lastname of the first guy ( David TAUB ) means in german " DAVID DEAF"

( taub is the german adjective for "leaf" if you just didnt get it ^^ )

  • That guy should shut up, he is talking talking and so full of him that the Studio guy cant even get to say what he want!

  • @skanerost init, i want to know what the pro has to say !!!!

  • @froidalo i agree i also want to hear what the pro has to say! And the pro isn't the guy speaking all the time he is the interviewer! I want to hear the owner of the studio talk a bit more!

So i guess we mean the same thing or did you missunderstand my comment ?

  • @skanerost Yes we mean the same thing :)

  • Patchbays are hell if you keep them like that.

An organised mess springs to mind...

  • hahaha my studio iz bigger then that !

  • @NzNexus2 your mom is bigger than that

  • the guy who does the interview is pretty arrogant

  • @SoFuckForever yea he is using to much jarggon and refrences to show what he know when we dont care...bad interviewer

  • @SoFuckForever That's music for ya, try getting a job in the industry.

  • @SoFuckForever: I would say, Irritating!

  • for a secind i thought he wanted to say cock not console xDDD but awesome studio me want too

  • hey man, im new to recording and wondering why some engineers have 2 monitors? please reply back i really want to know

  • @ilovesabian1n1 for monitoring in stereo.

  • @johnqpublic2718 Even recording in mono it makes more sense to have one for each ear otherwise it'll sound seriously unbalanced like having one headphone one. That's a killer :(

  • @ilovesabian1n1 So you can make a stereo mix, like how you normally hear music. You know when you listen to music through earphones, you have your right and left earphones and each one plays something a little different, like left has the guitar and vocals and the right has the bass and drums. It is used to create space, make it seems more realistic or sometimes, if you want, surrealistic.

  • Haha.. It says no smoke in the studio.. Rappers is killing their self with weed inside those studios

  • holy FUCK

    thank god digital exists

  • seriously what the fuck is real and what the fuck is fake? grow your ears, it's just a different way of producing - it's the same music man...grow your music mind up - stop being so close-minded II Real/Fake - Overproduced or anything with that nonsense..seriously

  • Faaaaarrrrrrrrrk sake, must that interviewer always overtalk and finish Elliot's sentences!?

  • The interviewer talks so freaking loud; I want to punch him in the throat.

  • Old School still has its place warmer sound

  • Wow, I love how backward-cap-guy keeps interjecting... not

  • cool

  • Tape machine around 7:00 = thank you, Les Paul... and Bing Crosby lol

Oh, but seriously, "Are those from the 70s?"

    %*^)&*_)#@$&*^)$(*

HOW DO YOU HAVE THIS JOB?!? :S lol

  • @yobhsiFehT I know this guy sucks so hard

  • Check out my basic bedroom studio tour :) , search MC Hippie TV - Studio tour

  • One of the best "studio tours" I have seen on the tube, thanks for posting.

  • This studio is an old mess. Look at the patch bay!

  • lol, that's the first thing I thought. He's like a mad scientist, though. Some people aren't really too anal about cord ties and cable management. Me included, lol.

  • haha, thats true, but its the dudes "home" and so its HIS house. I do agree, still if I needed to mix and I had this studio as an option I would use it.

  • just buy the tascam da-88 ,s and link them together , get a rc-848 remote , a mackier sr24 , get an eq and 2 dual compressors to give you 4 channel of compression set to the chanels that you record or mixdown with compression, and get a 1-2 power conditioners depending on your components , also buy some effect racks for delay and reverb and also but a dual 31 band eq for final mixdown , you also need two powered studio monitors , mikes ,headphones ,snake, mike stands ,and musical equiptment!

  • big huge penis

  • tape was used back when rock music sounded real...now it all sounds fake and overproduced....thanks alot digital

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Digital also cuts costs of recording by allowing to edit quicker than punching in and out of a tape. That makes it cheaper for the bands you hear today to make it big.

Without digital, people would need real talent to get signed.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 It's not the equipments fault if producers use them the wrong way.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Don't thank Digital for making records sound fake. Modern times are rough with income and technology has changed. You can get analog gear and run it as your outboard equipment. Like these guys said, most people convert all their cds and downloaded music (which is compressed anyway, so you're not getting the feel of the record in the first place by downloading) onto their MP3 player, which compresses it even more. Thank the people who do that and make the sound worse.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 How can anything be "Overproduced" you do know what producing consists of don't you?

  • @VIIZEROIIV yea, im a music producer. overproduced is Bon Jovi (sounds all fake) vs Pearl Jam (sounds real)...most modern 'rock bands', sound fake as hell, thousands of vocal layers to thicken things out, quantized drum editing, autotuning. listen to bands like 'all time low' or 'you me at six', modern SO CALLED rock bands (they suck), but the production sounds so over the top and therefore fake, the instruments no longer start to sound real due to the over editing to achieve a perfect sound

  • @tiddlywinks98712

I mean, the only reason we like the "sound" of tape is because all of our favorite records from "back when" were made on tape.

Digital is technically a more accurate reproduction of what you hear/play.

You can overproduce on tape, too.

    Don't blame the medium.

  • @googenshlagen yea but its way EASIER to overproduce on digital. All bands are doing it now, shitty bands like i mentioned before. its SO EASY to make something sound good with over-production that they can get away with making less than medeocre pop punk songs...

also it sounds so empty, say u record a guitar and vocals, the digital being 'perfect', makes it just sound fake and....well...digitial...theres so many empty spaces in the audio spectrum and it sounds TOO clear if anything. its wierd.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Then stop listening to shitty bands

  • @noudthe3rd u calling The Beatles, Velvet Underground and Soundgarden "shitty bands"?? cus thats what i listen to...

  • @tiddlywinks98712 No im saying stop listening to shitty bands that sound fake and overproduced

  • @tiddlywinks98712 what kind of rock do you listen to?

  • @TheRealMe15 A lot of stuff really, late Beatles stuff, Grateful Dead and Velvet underground, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dead Meadow to name a few from each decade.

  • @tiddlywinks98712

It's the other way around, you're just used to the old rock.

  • @MagnusRulerHardt maybe its part of it that rock is now total shite, BUT its cus its so easy to overproduce a track to sound great, that the origional song doesnt need to be any good at all. so shitty bands can sound radio friendly without being anywhere near half decent.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 Yeah.... I guess if you have no clue what you're doing with the equipment that's available... It would sound "overproduced." (which has no definite meaning in the first place btw). Fake? You mean well engineered? It's easier to get tracks edited, mixed, and mastered due to all the imperfections of sub-par performers. I suppose what you're trying to say is this.... "I can't stand perfection, and I really don't like bands or groups that have any extensive orchestration."

  • @ShallowGroundDrummer no, because The Beatles were the masters of "extensive orchestration" and perfection, and they didn't sound overproduced and lame...any producer on the planet knows what overproduction is. It's everywhere in modern music, mostly in conjunction with over-compression in the 'loudness war'. Also, digital makes it easy for bands to record anything so they get lazy and use the technology to polish up a mediocre song to be radio friendly, rather than trying to create a great song

  • @tiddlywinks98712 analog is great if ur a surper famous musician with thousands of dollars to throw around but for the majority of musicians in the world who want to record digital is the way to go and if u know what ur doing digital can be just as good just listen to periphery

  • @towardstheshadows yea, i realise that the internet has forever ruined music, only the rich can survive in the music industry now. we can all record on digital, but we cant sell it, or even make minimum wage...ahhh well, im sure the queen of england will be the only person able to release an album soon

  • Anyone who says that about a GOOD tape machine, doesn't know what GOOD sound quality is really like.

These are the same people who insist that a 128kbps mp3 ripped from a modern CD, actually sounds good.

  • yea fuck that, its 328 24bit

  • 328 what?

  • KBPS duhh...and wav

  • don't "duhh" me, when you don't seem to know what GOOD audio really is.

    328 kbps at 24bit? That's a very strange bitrate.

No to mention, that would be using quite a lot of compression - LOSSY compression, to be exact. Why would I want to do that, unless portability is my main concern?

  • well duhh lol

  • lol I'll pass, and keep my vinyl :P

  • shut up a bit please.. leave the master talk.

  • In my home studio I record every thing to 2in tape then back to cakewalk.

  • David, love this series. Thanks and keep em comin'

  • oooh thats how you spell taub

  • spaghetti? looks more like uber chaos

  • dude david is practically yelling

  • doesnt taste like spaghetti haha

  • cool intro

  • ok i like David, but does he have to shout? :-O

  • yay! next year im gonna go to college to be a producer!!

  • Kick! Ass! Dude, that's awesome. Does it take much to become one? Like, a lot of classes?

  • I dont know. I need to apply to the friggin college tho. PLUS I need some money

  • there are schools that teach engineering, like Fullsail in Orlando, but they dont teach you how to be a producer, you have to be in the industry and bust ass for years as far as I know. I know the producer that just did the new Godsmack record (unreleased as of yet), Dave Fortman. He's a fucking cool guy from Louisiana, did work on my friends band (Atomship) so that's how I meet him. He was a guitarist in Ugly Kid Joe prior to producing and it's taken him a long time to get where he's at now.

  • I'd love to become a producer after I get my ass out of high school. I have a lot of experience from home recording.

  • Don't forget it Lots of Great stuff was made before you were in your Papa's Eye... Rockongoodpeople you rock for this tour.. DaddieRay Likes This Video

  • nowadaya u dont even need a console..

  • This was a great tour. Thank you!

  • please tell me you got him to record some of your music

  • Great video, David!!

  • I love you David Taub

  • Yeah, I am now the AV crew of my campus. And ya, its really kinda intimidating to look at the sound console initially. It really looked like a sea of knobs. But once you get to understand that you should look at each and every single channel vertically, down the console. It wont looks as scary already. However, WTF 56 channels!!! that's A LOT!!!

  • Yeah once you learn a single channel you can understand the whole board

and 56 channels is good to have if yu want to be very flexible with your music

  • rockongoodpeople you are my teacher ,I SUSCRIBE YOU CONGRATULATIONS I LEARN WITH YOUR VIDEOS... ...TIJUANA B,C, MEXICO............

  • Very intresting, thanks for sharing

  • great video. you got part 2?

  • Omg thanks ^^ (L)

  • Excuse me while i change my pants xP

  • haha i love comment about how compressing down to mp3 completely negates the engineering process. Lets amass against mp3!

  • Wait,,Dover NJ?? like the 1 by Morristown?? wow i grew up there!! Small world after all!

  • I grew up in livingston! :D

  • Man,,ive spent over 10,000$ and my setup aint even close 2 this<< then again ive got a home studio not a commercial one<<

  • I'd be willing to bet your is still nice

  • 1:50 woah. That's a LOT of knobs.

  • It doesn't taste like spaghetti

  • It sure doesn't :-D

  • lol

  • Too bad the video ended at the point the engineer started speaking about distortion on digital sound which sounds more terrible than on analog. Interesting subject.

  • Sometimes, you can get feedback from from compression! Suppose the release and the sustain of the compression is too long.

Also, over compression can create some funky effects.

  • would be nice to here this guys opinion on amp modellinf vs tube i know tubes better but id like to here his opinion

  • cool iam such a geek watching this on a thursady eve when my pals are texting me to come to the pub!!

  • Thanks Dave ! -)) Much love dude, looking foreword to more of your emails!

  • superb video guys , im trying to figure out all the recording stuff i can :)

  • I wish they'd lose the "static" transitions - Using ear buds to watch this at work - Murder on the ears....

  • ya ouch... haha Im werein 30mm stereo headphones. they are nice. I wanna get some 50mm tho.. wonder if thos would really pack a punch.

  • really helpful

  • Awsome walkthrough...

  • Great little video but I do wish the guy with the cap would let the other dude talk more.

  • the guy with the cap is one of the guys who runs this channel...

  • sweet :}

  • Very interesting comparisons views between digital & analogue.

    Thanks for recording.

  • mmmm tiny telephone cables

  • i suggest making play lists on the channel ...eg guitar reviews , lessons , beginner , rhythm , studio , interviews , guest teachers ... and the best of DT

  • I second this.

  • i like analog and digital XD the sound is different if u r as obsessed with how stuff sounds as i am...;D

  • Great tour! I think digital sounds too bright, electronic and fake. Analog sounds real, but not as detailed as digital.. Analog is also an art in itself. Anyone can make a decent sounding digital recording, not the same for analog. Good analog recordings take knowledge, money and experience...

  • Sounds like a samurai sword... We have guns now, people like samurai swords because of the time & art form that goes into it. It's a nice thing, but once again... We have guns now.

  • thats awesome

  • well whaddayaknow, just about 1 hour after I subbed to you guys, you release a new video. sweet haha

  • cool
