I don't see the big deal with deathclaws. I play the game on very hard mode and have never had a problem with them.

The problem is with the bugged feral ghoul reavers (the ones that have almost infinite health). You want something to fear, look for one of those.

deathclaws are easy. i use the perks: concentrated fire, grim reapers sprint, sniper (not necessary but useful) and action boy. this means that you can kill them in one vats sitting with head shots without them getting near you and you can instantly target the next death claw in vats as "grim reapers sprint" regenerates your action points if you kill something in vats. also 100 energy weapons skill with a maxed out plasma rifle helps

Protip for dealing with the deathclaws around old olney!

Bring the dart gun and your weapon of choice, use VATS and Shoot a dart at the deathclaws leg, it will slow him down and make it so you can move faster than it, now simply pull out your gun and shoot deathclaw until dead. rinse repeat, grab armor, ????, profit.

@LK85LeonKennedy85 I mostly go (in the point of game before Fawkes would be available) I suit up Charon with as good quality power armor as I can and as he already has Shotgun I also take one and for longer distance Chinese-A-Rifle, but mostly using "shotgun-to-the-face tactic (also ofcourse best to have high small guns for weapons part)

@LK85LeonKennedy85 I agree with that, I never personally havent played enough sneak-basedly to actually use the dark-gun "efficiently" could say. I mostly harm them as much as I can from distance and finish the job with closer combat if not lucky enough to get crit. shot kill.

@RHProductionsII You don't need to be sneaky to effectively use the dart gun. while the charge at you VATS them in the leg. It makes the armor so much easier to unlock.

Unfortunatley, they forgot when they added the new material to keep the Prototype Medic Power armor in there, so when you leave it, it loads the new material into it, and the Power Armor is gone. bring the dart gun, it cancels out the death claw's lunge attack and cripple their legs so that they're walking speed. A few shots to the head with a combat shotgun does the rest of job effectively, if a little messy.
