@squrt92bat12...w/ regards to Trauma / Medical Green, Yellow, Red. I believe it all depends where you work, or the state you live in. In Colorado, for instance, Trauma / Medical patients are classified as either a green, yellow, or red. Just b/c Fla may classify w/ one terminology does not mean it happens everywhere.
magician is really mistaken trauma green red and yellow are for MCI calls trauma alert have to meet Trauma Alert criteria ive worked in northn florida and lived in parts outside of dade county and there all the same we only use the color system in an event of a MCI and as for the other person who said why we transport by air when theres alot of hospital well if your a trauma alert you go to a trauma facility a level 1 trauma facility and trust me miami has traffic at all times of the day &night
@nikittoo1 I mean you could wear it for something else if you want but noone does, it wouldn't look good walking into a house on a medical call w ur contaminated bunker pants.
If the transport to Ryder is going to be more than 15mins by ground, whether because of distance or traffic or anything, MDFR Air Rescue is dispatched to transport.
In Florida we dont classify Trauma into 1 2 or 3.You have Trauma Green,Yellow and Red(which usually becomes an alert) due to the mechanism of injury, most motorcycle accidents become trauma alerts.
That's not true at all. Your source is highly inaccurate, Ryder Trauma Center at JMH is a Level 1 trauma center, so is Memorial Regional Hospital, and Broward General. I am a FL EMT in PMD school and have been around fire/ems my entire life and have NEVER heard of your "trauma green, yellow and red", you might be taking about the triage colors for an MCI, but not about trauma center classification.
That is true but are you going to risk having to wash your gear at the station after every bloody call you go on? Then get a fire and have to put wet gear on which will steam you to death. Trauma calls can get very nastyand me personally I'd rather wear trauma sleeves and not gunk up my turnout gear or touch another pt will my gear that got blood on it from a previos call. But I do understand what your saying.
I agree with LAcofireguy on that comment. The only other thing the could use for ppe are trauma sleeves but that's about it. If there wasn't any fire hazards then there's no reason for turnout gear unless you were worried about getting your station boot dirty.
Actually the turnout gear qualifies as PPE. It repells water and doesn't soak it in so in instances where something like a gown is needed turnout gear works for that.

Thats what bunker pants are for on EMS/ Rescue calls. They cover over jeans and are very light and tough.

Why call a helicopter to Dade County?? There are hospitals all over?? It would not be a long drive by EMS Unit??
MPS137 2 years ago
Jackson Memorial has the only Level 1 Trauma care center in Miami-Dade county.
kris1991 2 years ago
But if injuries are too severe to ride in an ambulance, that's what the helicopter is for.
