@tubegangsta More than likely, when he hit the other car it jerked the wheel and that's what busted his thumb. Normally after you do it once, you learn to drive with your thumbs on the outside of the wheel. It's not quite as comfortable, but it's a helluva lot better than broken thumbs.
Have to say you're quite ballsy for taking on the ups and downs of Laguna Seca. I could never see myself running that fast on that course, especially through the corkscrew (which even on GT4 kinda scares the shit out of me). Respect.
So much ignorance and hate. To anyone who has really driven a miata, especially at laguna knows that he wasn't attempting a pass...gear selection, engine speed, POSITION etc!!! Also, the corkscrew is a motherf@cker, video doesn't do it justice.
Who need braking points as long as the guy in front of you knows his, right... What the hell, use the side of his car to slow you down... This is a prime example of why I stopped racing with you clowns.
Thanks for posting! We all miss braking points. These cars are unbelievably robust yet forgiving. Looks like you were able to finish, despite the injury. Hope that thumb healed up. Cheers!
Tough little cars, the Miata. That was a hard hit and you said he went back and finished the race. I nailed a wall one with the rear, bent all the arms, even the hub but subframe stayed straight.
Looks the car in front was hitting them just right and you decided to pull an unsafe pass on the inside, you got impaitent and rushed in too fast, atleast you didnt wipe out. Also the guy on the outside/front was not aware of your position and shot right in, IMO either both at fault or neither! lol
- This was not an attempt to pass, I missed my braking point.
- MyChron data, gathered over the last 5 years, shows that I am fastest taking a straight line in and positioning the car about 8ft from the inside berm.
- I generally am in and around the top 10 in SFR SCCA races (50-70 cars per race)
- The car I punted off came back on and finished ahead of me.
thats such a bad spot to try and pass. if he had tried that line while not having another car there at that speed, he would have gone into the dirt. i have driven there twice and i can tell you that corkscrew cuts back alot further than you might think
Ouch, bet you hold the wheel a little different now. Must be quite hard to get your braking right straight after the crest of the hill. Smallest mistakes can make silly accidents, unlucky man.
I dont see any of you out there racing, show me a vid of you racing and i will point out all the stupid shit that you do. back off all of you, it was an honest mistake, shit happens.
I dare you to find a single person in auto racing who has been doing it for some time that has not crashed. i am sure that even Michael shumacker has fucked up at some point. and i dont care if i spelled his name wrong
I have to agree. I bet all the people talkin trash have never even been on that patch of heaven just outside Monterey. I wadded a miata in turn one, don't feel bad.
Good catch!

In the corkscrew no one is in the right and no one is in the wrong.
Everybody just dies; that thing is horrifying.

To answer a few comments or questions
- This is an SCCA race week-end, not a track day
- This was not an attempt to pass, I missed my braking point.
- MyChron data, gathered over the last 5 years, shows that I am fastest taking a straight line in and positioning the car about 8ft from the inside berm.

- Its hard to hit a wall in the corkscrew

Well to be fair Zanardi made that pass there, as you can see on youtube but probably not something you want to try regularly.

Broken thumb? Serves you right, torpedo guy! How'd the guy you punted out come through?
ItWentChunkaCHUNK 5 years ago
As the guy said, he hit the brakes at the wrong time... didn't try to overtake there.
The driver screwed up again when he had his thumbs inside of the wheel tho, as I'm sure he'll admit.
