How can Sri Lankan's have such foolish pride in this embarrassment of an expressway. The emergency lane is so narrow, the driver cannot get out of the drivers side door. And the lanes a narrower than the international standard. It's embarrassing that people are saying this is international or world class. It's nothing more than a typical third-world attempt at an expressway. Don't try to blame me either, when it is actually factual that the expressway is sub-standard. We should expect the best.

I travelled first time in SL last year, and just loved it!!! It is a true paradis! Made some great friends over there and look forward to coming back. I also love the idea of having small and scenic roads, and these should be surely kept. But for those who wish to travel faster, the highway isvery important as it will save alot of time and will lead to economic development.  The Colombo-Galle hightway is of a great importance. I also hope that soon the Colombo-Kandy highway is on its way...

Congrats Sri Lanka! It's wonderful work. You could also take a look at India's Kashmir to Kanyakumari National 6-lane Highway spanning thousands of kms. India too has done tremendously well in road construction.

@ambashells They need to install fencing on either side of the highway to prevent that (hopefully they already did since every modern highway has that) .. only the extremely ignorant will climb the fence to get in an accident.

You are probably right about waiting a month or two though because of some of the drivers. Most sri lankan drivers are good .. there are a few bad ones that ruin the road for everyone.

You know even if its the normal roads, all drivers drive like they dont have tomorrow!! recently a calf was knocked over by a bus driving at full speed on a certain highway which was a real sad sight. I think before constructing any road all drivers need to be given thorough warning and a 2nd examination for new drivers licence.

Only interchanges should have lights, other parts do not need.. This is how all western and US countries do it., When a vehicle moves 100 km /h fast passing street lights creates concussion to highly concentrated drivers.. simply its a disturb. so they do not put up street lights on Freeways (Coz no pedestrians), but on streets you need it..

@hps19781126 because in highways lights are disturbing the drivers and make the eyes more exhaust, only near exists, and drivers should not drive with headlights and foglights onas usual from SL drivers, I hope this Highway will not accesible from threewheeler, no doors busses, no shops within the highway (just some petrol station with a well organised market, resturant and hotel)

2. one from Colombo to Kandy

3. one from Kandy to trinco

4. one from colombo to Batticoloa

5. one to replace the A9

No person in Sri Lanka must be more than 30 minutes drive from a highway, only then will the country become prosperous.
