  • "And I just watched their little bodies rise and lower... rise and lower"

    That's what priest said.

  • I'm just watching this to get perspective for Dan Dennett's rebuttal...

  • Sorry but when did TED start a special need section?

Normally TED normally presents a series of interesting, provocative, new ideas that make you think.

This is a sermon/motivation talk teetering under the weight of it's clichés and self-help pablum, mixed in with self-congratulatory self-praise (I'm so humble, super-successful and yet I give it all away etc.). I can only imagine the crushing boredom of the intelligent audience forced to sit through being talked to like they were dim children.

  • Yeah. I think I get it.

So, in accordance whit this logic, god is happy when a murderous psychopath does what he is hardwired to do.

That must be why god hates gays... because they must not be hardwired to be gay, in spite of what they say, and what science says.

And that's why christians and muslims think it's okay for murderous psychopaths to kill gays!

    It's all perfectly clear now.

What does that say about your god?

  • Rick Warren is a False Prophet servant of satan. The only Reason he got his career is because he is the fat bastard son of Jerry Falwell. His teaching follow that of the man know as Maitreya. Maitreya is the 2nd beast aka the False Prophet of Revelations that serves the Antichrist.

Jerry Falwell is dead and burning in hell right next to Ted Kennedy for serving the devil.

  • Try setting up a meeting with the pastors at saddleback regarding rick warrens doctrine and see how far you get. They have undercover security and bodyguards in the audience and no one can get anywhere near him!

  • rick warren is off track he is miss leading people down the wrong road he is tyring to promote one world religion he and opra are false teachers and will be condemed forever

  • this is a very helpful materials , congrats

  • Rick, the false prophet, a dog of illuminati.

    내 약속하지.

곧 니들 안구에서 피라미드 개눈깔을 뽑고

    대신 니들 좆을 거기다 박아주마.

  • This guy must have been invited as a tedtalk science project!

  • I will take the valuable things from this video, which I will admit there are a lot of valuable things he spoke about, but I will not let go of my rationality to believe the things that Rick Warren believes.

  • The music at rick warrens church is fantastic but biblically it is a self help cult of personality

  • @gadget00 Psalm 137:9, New Living Translation (©2007) "Happy is the one who takes your babies and smashes them against the rocks!" Yet another timeless truth.

  • @snarbleful well said!=)

  • (...) which empowers u and could give u a stronger sense of purpose. What do you think? :)

  • @domdexart : I think that if u actually listened to the speech he's having u would think it's good. Listen to the content, he's not doing this to convert anyone I think. He's doing it to remind people on important values of life, e.g. giving someth. to another person(doesn't have 2 b material, could b time, love, caring, attention) could give u something even greater back: happiness..And when u give someth of urself 2 another person u realise u have a positive and effective influence on somebody

  • I thought the talk was actually quite good but I want to point out one very important point. Everything he said, without exception, has not a thing to do with God. But he claims that this is all of Gods doing. This could be said of any religion not just Christianity. Realize that these ideas, whether you decide to help or hurt, all come from you. Of course you are shaped by your environment, genes etc. You do not need to read a passage in the bible or any other "Holy" book to be a good person.

  • @snarbleful This guy is very good at psychological manipulation, I can see why/how he is so successful at doing what he does (selling religious bullshit)!

  • Religious matters aside, I think this speech was great.

  • "THE BEST SELLING BOOK IN HISTORY?" How dare you! You arrogant fuck!

  • How does this asshole get to speak at TEDS? We get to hear from brilliant geniuses, great leaders, visionaries, and this arrogant jerk-off!

  • Ok fine, you acknowledge there a spiritual emptiness... Next seek the truth christ,jews,islam,satanic... Compare...

  • How about google what do islam have to say about the purpose of life?

  • I haven't completely just run away from Rick Warren in general but I have a couple of questions for him... how can Rick serve on the Advisory Board for the Council On Foreign relations knowing it's main purpose is to set up a 'New World Order' (One World whickypoo Government) and what makes him think that it's ok for a "Christian" to support such a thing? 2. Why is Rick so pacifist when it comes to "Chrislam"? I don't disagree with Rick on everything but he is loosing me and fast.

  • RICK WARREN IS DOING MANY FALSE THINGS..STICK TO THE WORD OF GOD. HE IS USING MEN THAT PRACTICE WITCHCRAFT AND MANY OTHER DEMONIC THINGS..HE'S A FALSE LEADER

  • what a giant fucking blowhard.

  • The staff turned into a snake. Doesn't that mean that your identity (ego), way of earning money (taking advantage of other beings) and affluance (what keeps you from seeing reality) are actually poisonous to you. They keep you from a purer path where you are much happier. I'm a Buddhist, but I would be Christian if the scripts were easier to decipher

  • Excellent interpretations of bible verses. Very impressed. I've been waiting a long time to hear intelligent interpretations of the bible, instead of the usual literal ones without any relation to the world around us. I am a Buddhist, mostly because the path is much easier and clearer in Buddhist scripts. Now I'm looking forward to Christians re-discovering meditation (which they were involved in a long time ago). That is the main tool for unbiased observation

  • I love you!

  • it has become clear that many new "preachers" have moved from the gospel message of sin, forgiveness, and new life through Gods only son Christ Jesus to a new message about how our "life" will be better, our finances better, health better, if we get happy happy about god (little g). this helps convince a sleepy greedy sinful mass and keep from making them feel "convicted" about their sin. we are all filthy in our sin and only the blood of Jesus can save us; that is the most important thing.

  • "the why question, is the stupid questions" - richard dawkins.

  • Can this guy ever make points that don't include a trio of things that begin with the same letter?

  • I just wanna LIVE, not just EXIST.

  • He is doing what he thinks is right, I admire that. IF all of us did that this world would be a better place wouldn't it, but the problem is that most of us are too selfish to care about helping and giving to others. Each one of us know what is right and what is wrong so, what's stopping us from choosing to do right? Self. Giving ourselves to God completely, allowing Him to transform our lives will make the world a better place one person at a time.

  • @Lulu4Him no all of us should not do what we think is right, whenever a religious person does what they think is right it leads to division, ignorance and lies.

TED is a channel that usually opposes such nonsense...good thing dennett was able to have a shot at pointing out how deluded Warren is.

  • @tapasoflife People who do not believe in Jesus Christ are trapped in a box and cannot find the Door. It's those of us who have lifted our eyes to see and believe in God, who have surrendered our hearts to Him that have eternal heights to climb and slide down. Our out look and knowledge, and freedom is endless, ever learning, loving, enjoying life, being in love with truth, and creation, and our Creator. Our expectations are endless. Be a truth-seeker, ask Him into your heart today

  • @Lulu4Him be a truth seeker? What? Your mind is closed, no arguing with a Muslim. No arguing with you.

  • Apt response on TED itself: /watch?v=DTepA-WV_oE Please go through this, a must see for every atheist, agnostic, islamists, christian, hinduism basically ANY "religion"

  • good speaker

  • Oooh - a TED talk that everyone's hatin' on... Are there any that have even more dislikes?

  • At 19:15 What if you are wired to be homosexual ? God smiles when you are you? So god smiles when a lesbian behaves likes a lesbian , that's what he is saying.

  • Hey, when's the last time he raised the dead? He couldn't heal a sick cat!

Watch on youtube MINISTERS OF SATAN, by excatholics.

  • LOL

  • Judgement + assumption = utterly pointless spurious garbage.

  • Rick and Frank Smith (winona, Mn) are so dumb. I can't understand the message that Rick is trying to give.

And another thing next time work on your pronunciation aka, "Religious Gooks"

  • We cannot achieve peace with each other until we have peace with God. God has everything to do with everything. What Rick Warren fails to do is describe how we can have peace with God. If you would turn from your selfishness and wrongdoing and turn to Jesus for your salvation, He will save you. You can do nothing to merit His grace.

  • @marushamomma Have you tried Robert M Price's excellent book, ' The reason driven life' which is his reply to Rick Warren. Robert Price has a great warmth & wit / good sense of humour. I love ' The reason driven life' , it takes a look at what is known of the wider historical context of the Bible texts. Price notes that the authors who wrote the Bible often have more than one opinion on each topic. Higher criticism of the Bible yields many treasures from the Bible that apologists miss.

  • @zytigon No, I haven't heard of him. Perhaps I will check it out. Not sure I agree with the author's having more than one opinion though.

  • @marushamomma I wonder if you agree that the Bible is like a cryptic moral test- stories are written to make you think- what should the character have done, would there have been a more ethical way to deal with that situation? Like Judges11v29-38 Jephthah vowed to kill whatever first came out his house if the Lord gave victory in battle. He should have realised a good God wouldn't want that.. HIs daughter could have told him that. Is it a warning not to make rash promises ? Think things through.

  • @zytigon No, the Bible is our external, objective standard. It is God's inspired Word. It is infallible. It is not a moral text book. It is all about God's redemption of mankind. It contains the truth. It is not merely stories though it contains them. It is sufficient for all the Christian needs for life and living in faith.

  • Can't disagree with his message... I agree God is not needed for this message to be spread though.

  • Watch Jack Van Impe (who has abandoned TBN) on his August 11 show on his website. He talks about Rick Warren.

  • if ANY of You followers Of Rick warren Had DISCERNMENT, Youi would see That This Man Is A Total and Complete Heretic!!

  • Yawn @ Rick Warren. "Assertion, assertion assertion......" Public speaking skillz C+. Daniel Dennett right after him is WAY more interesting. Do yourself a favor and click on Daniels Ted talk.

  • god what a piece of human garbage. and he made it into TED?

  • Among the 30 millions people who bought that ""BOOK"" and those at TED, does anyone have read it ?!? His ""BOOK"" is nothing more than a long litany of religious drivels !! I really don't understand why TED invited that moron to give a speech.

  • @anarkoFred agreed!

  • Its amazing how much Warren knows, that there is a God, what he thinks about us and how we should behave and what ever. I have never had a conversation with that God person he often refers to. Ive never seen any God person. I wonder where he gets his Information from, surely not from the bible, because the bible is a very old text, full of myths and not much historical information

  • @balouthewatz the bible is full of timeless truths. Things that happened many years a go, are quite happening right now. My suggestion: start reading Proverbs and check if those things aren't happening in 2011.

  • @gadget00 Of course the bible is full of truths. A Talking snake, a talking donkey, unicorns, dragons, angels, demons, and some other bullshit. How can you not believe that? Oh right common sense!

  • 1:05 Camus had more to say about living than this crackpot.

  • This pompous windbag has made millions selling a product he cant deliver. It's been said before, but it has never been more true: "Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest". Did his message make you feel all warm and fuzzy? Fine, but keep in mind - the messenger is tainted by conning gullible people out of their money for a delusional fantasy. It's his job to make you feel what you're feeling - and take your money.

  • @47f0 I believe you don't know that he donates(tithes) 91% of ALL his incomes to the church, and just lives with 9% of it. At least that's a great show of a man not planning to scam all of us and run away.

Living with a purpose is not a fantasy; it can be very real through Christ

  • @gadget00 - and I believe you don't know that "living with purpose" doesn't require your fake "god", the Easter Bunny, or Harry Potter, or that hallucinations and delusions can seem very real. Please, please, please, hand me 9% of the millions this charlatan rakes in - trust, I could live on it just fine.

  • Great speech! The message is 100% Christian and 100% relevant. Those finding fault with this message should really search within themselves.

  • Daniel Dennet pwned this foo'

  • The question of meaning is confused. The question of purpose is only one version of it. And that is the one that leads to the sort of reasoning Warren is expounding. The question of meaning in the sense of what it means to be, or what is the fundamental how of being is very different and will not lead to that sort of reasoning. Once you get to see the various ways the meaning of being can be asked, I think you will also see that God would not be a sufficient answer to most the interesting ones.

  • rick warren will be CONDEMNED TO HELL for his stance !

  • This guy is hack. So Rick you didn't want to be famous but you are. Does god need you to be famous??? Why does god (the all powerful) need you at all? Why do you need to write thePDL?? I am sick of this supreme bring needing humans to translate his shit! Tell us yourself all powerfull one!!!!!!!

  • @hicks727 lol

  • There is plenty of bigotry on both sides. People like to point out the bad things the "other group" does and not acknowledge the good. Simultaneously they will exault the good that "their group" does, and explain-away or ignore the bad things their group does. It is really shameful for both sides, secular and religious.

    - Science flies you to the moon, religion flies you into buildings.

    - Religion builds soup kitchens, science builds atom bombs.

See how foolish this can be?

  • This guy fuckin says, "I think..., I think..., I think..." WHERE'S THE FUCKIN PROOF??

  • false

  • i love ted talks

but why all the thumbs down? im agnostic with a religious up bringing and i still really enjoyed this

  • A lot of the thumbs down are from religious people I'm sure. Believe it or not, Rick is controversial in the Christian world.

  • (cont'd)

The beauty of the U.S. is the ability for those to express their beliefs and take a stand, and encourage others who share that view in their lifestyles. Such an ability strengthens a country when there is healthy debate, and the ability to dismiss without hostility for those who do not wish to engage.

But to be offended/hostile instead of choosing to simply dismiss or debate would the very absolutist and prejudiced act that we are conveying the other has.

  • Why is it that we are so prejudiced against those who do not believe what we believe or make choices we do not make? And then accuse them of prejudice?

We are not prejudiced against certain vegans who feel like cow-killing is wrong or evil. We accept our differences and do not show such hostility, and even pause to consider their reasoning (albeit for a moment).

I think the hostility in prejudice comes when we feel threatened, or when we are prejudiced ourselves. We do not feel threatened whe

  • Well, he is deeply religious, but that doesn't mean what he got to say is bullshit by default. We can learn things from everyone, even people who believe in things we don't, the exchange of ideas is a wonderful thing. I disagree with a few things he sayd but I also agree with a bunch of others.

I can't see why people gave so many deslikes to this ... well, it's Youtube so I guess I can see why ...

  • The only thing this guy has ever done to offend people is to have a misunderstanding of gender (in relationship to gay and transgender people), a misunderstanding that many people have had for centuries, perhaps since before our species officially became humans. Does this make him a horrible person?

  • @CatFlashBlue Even with his misunderstandings, he got a good point at 19:20.

People are "wired" to be the way they are.

That's up for debate, but some people are aparently "wired" to do things that go against some people beliefs, like gay and transgender people.

I bet he thinks it is a matter of choice, but just having the concept of hardwired innate characteristics is a step forward to understanding the issue.

  • God bless this man

  • This guy is an ass.

  • I am strictly atheist, but Rick Warren seems so sincere and nice in this video that I like him, as a person.

  • This guy talks in circles, he wrote a best seller big whoop

  • Christians don't assume people will go to hell. Don't hate this man. HE wants you to live your life to the best regardless of beliefs. Helping others and loving them is important. If you were an atheist or Christian I would still respect you and love you as a friend. All he is saying is that believing in God can make you happy, he isn't syaing if you don't believe in God you'll be unhappy, he just states that offering yourself to God will bring you happiness, it isn't the only way, but it can!

  • i appreciate his motivation, echoing dan dennett's comments. but god is not the only answer to "emptiness in life." in fact i think its a false one for those who choose it. Religion as a social construct, separate from god, certainly is a false answer. and before you think, "ner scotch thats just your opinion," no it isnt, the fallacy of religion is scientifically observable.

  • @Scotch7000 Stop hating on Christians.

  • Rick Warren has no merit being on that stage. TED is to help flourish reasonable ideas, not to help enslave minds with religious bullshit.

  • Comment removed

  • What are you talking about respect for other people's ideas? These are not ideas, these are lies. This is stupid. I cannot believe TED allow him to talk.

  • People should respect eachother or not. I am Christian, Whether you are Atheist or not doesnt matter, you are human like me, therefore you are ym equal and as much equal as everyone else. Christian or Atheist, Black or White, Asian or European. Why does it matter, everyone should love and respect eachother no matter what regardless of beliefs.

  • @animedude00spec - So do you respect the radical Muslim believers who claim that anyone who leaves the religion of Islam shall be put to death?

What about the men who cut off the clitoris of little girls in Africa in attempt to suppress their sexual desires. Do you respect them too, "regardless of their beliefs" - as you put it.

What about the law in Saudi Arabia that forbids women to drive a car, or enter a public building without a man being present. Respect them, too?

    Respect is earned.

  • @314Aurelius I can see where your hatred comes from because of the life you life. It is different from theirs so it's hard to understand. Yes I do, as much as I disagree with every cell in me, I have to respect them and love them as people because it's God's word. Even if I was atheist I would respect them In my opinion, it is wrong and shouldn't be happening, but it's their God's word, and if I can follow my God's word, than they can as well. Also, the clitoris cutting off, disagree but respect

  • You know what's interesting? - people failing to see that according to Christianity, God makes the rules, not the people who follow that God. Having said that, they should be hating on God instead, however, they don't believe He exists, so they will bash Rick Warren instead. And if you understand this point, you'd see how pitting Rick Warren to Hitler is a really poor analogy.

  • What was Jesus' purpose on earth? To fulfill the will of the Father? Now this apostate, profiteering child of the devil, 1 John 3:6-9. Now I know when you preach what scripture says the disciple/ follower is called to do is not popular and your church will not grow, so you re-invent something and take surveys of what the people desire in their churches. And bam, you have the purpose-driven church and life with its NIV Bibles, music catered to the people's taste, short ear tickling sermons.REPENT

  • Surprising to see TED host a person that promotes SUPERSTITION and BIGOTRY.

  • here is some purpose folks, stop sinning and follow the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart, every minute of every day, don't give the lusts of your wicked flesh any time at all. In all your ways acknowlege God and He will make your paths straight...

Or do you love to sin, do you enjoy your carnal pleasures too much to give them up, do you like your life too much to give it up and follow Jesus, don't worry, your in good company, most of the people around you are the same.

  • @servant714It is not that we love to sin.We love our brains, our intellect, our science, and in general our ability to reason and distinguish ancient myths from the truth. We love our search for truth even if we would never know if we reach it. We love the sense of awe that the universe has for us. We love having moral standards without the threat from a dictator in the sky. That is what we lust for, and are not willing to give up! The carnal pleasures and the sinning are just added bonuses!!

  • TED failed

  • I looked this up because I think that life is about living it with purpose every day. Exercising your will which I think is your greatest gift. Not necessarily giving away your life though.

  • Rick Warren provides a great opportunity to reflect on the purpose of our own life, and how we are utilising the gifts that we have been given.

  • Rick Warren provides a great opportunity to reflect on the purpose of our own life, and how we are utilising the gifts that we have been given.

  • If we live a life without purpose, we are no different than animals. Animals follow instincts, we have the capacity not to. We're the only species in the planet that can re-program our brains. Our instincts lead us to egoism, materialism, selfishness, envy, greed and lust. We can break free from animal instincts, animals can't. Do you want to be 100% human? Do you want to fulfill your stewardship and use your talents for making a better word for future generations? Is your most relevant decision

  • CAN YOU GUYS STOP BITCHING ABOUT RELIGON BEYOND REASON. I'am a skepical guy to but one has to be openminded and allow the free flow of ideas. Bitching about religon in the youtube comments like a dumb ass 14 year old isn't gonna make religon go away, it just makes you look like an immature prick.

  • the religion argument again? *sigh*

i am shocked at how many people have completely missed the point. TRY WATCHING THIS WITHOUT YOUR RELIGIOUS/ANTI-RELIGOUS PRECONCEPTIONS AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE REAL POINT!! - YOU DON'T HAVE TO APPLY THIS TO SERVING GOD. HOW ABOUT SERVING EACH OTHER?! surely if most people want to live in a harmonious society, altruism and respect for other beliefs, and helping others is the way forward. otherwise go join the nazi party you hypocrites.

  • @bastiano270 Watch watch?v=DTepA-WV_oE and you will understand why it's easy to dislike such a contaminated, yet well-meant, speech.

  • what's up with all the dislikes??

  • @redshark618

Maybe people didn't like his books or what he has said outside this video.

Daniel Dennett's response to Rick Warren:

    watch?v=DTepA-WV_oE

  • WHEN RICK TALKS ABOUT HOW NOAH PLEASURED GOD I LOSE MY LOAD IN MY PANTS

  • Why are so many comments negative? Because TED should not be having speakers who think that 90% of their audience are GOING TO HELL! And especially TEDdies, most of whom would like empirical evidence for such beliefs. Rick Warren's ideas will not advance science or our understanding of the universe around us. He's got freedom to promote his fantasy religion in other places, but lets' not TED resort to having speakers just because they struck it rich with a book.

  • "I bet that Jesus was who he says he is"

Everything you know about Jesus, except for the fact that he existed, was written by an anonymous scribe 300 years after Jesus had already died

    That is an irrefutable fact

If I told you I was abducted by an alien, would you believe me? What If I told you that my cousin's friend told me that his step mom heard that her neighbor knew a guy who was abducted by an alien?

Doubtful if from reliable sources, laughable as 5th or 6th generation hearsay

  • @UseYerEFFINBrain Actually, it was four anonymous scribes, and they were writing 45 to 60 years after the alleged event. Basically your broad idea is correct, but please get the specifics correct. You're correct: the original "witnesses" were illiterate Aramaic-speaking peasants who passed on the stories down through many several generations and hundreds of people before someone educated in Greek actually wrote the stories down. The four accounts disagree in hundreds of points.

  • The earliest full copies of the Gospel we have are the Codexes Vaticanus and Sinaiticus, dated 350AD. There are various small fragments of gospels from older Papyri dating 200Ad to 300AD, but nothing earlier

We GUESS that the originals were written between 60 and 100AD but have no way of verifying the content of those long gone originals. Things could have been added, removed, edited. We just don't know

All we KNOW is what was written in the two Codexes 19 generations after Jesus was dead

  • I am all for people doing good things however religion can often have the results of wrong-doings considered righteous. Being good does not involve changing your neighbor, it involves co-existing and understanding your neighbor. Most importantly it involves accepting him. One religion is wrong, atheism may be considered right only in the fact that it is neutral, otherwise it just is a lack of of belief in a god or gods. We shouldn't care about creed or color, we should care about people.

  • @scarnaby Actually, a tithe is money given to GOD. I believe if a charitable organization is promoting God and helping people, it can be considered a tithe.

  • Get this off TED! What happened to the important, interesting, and intelligent talks with Richard Dawkins, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Brian Cox, James Randi?! You know, smart people?!

    Gah!

  • Rick nice job thanks for speaking. Wow lots of crabby people posting here.

  • this is all well and good, but i think they cut out the part where pastor warren substantiates everything he just said

  • TED really needs to step up their criteria for the speakers. Delusional assholes should not be given the time of day.

  • It feels like I am in church being preached at, not a serious discussion of ideas. I just watched a video called "Rick Warren tells us how to get to heaven" and he says the greatest sin is pride. Hmmmm. Why don't we take a listen to 3:30. Sounds like someone will not be getting any milk and honey or walking on streets of gold!!! Nope, sounds like he just bought a ticket to down under! hahahaha

  • I truly believe that he is a good person and has good intentions. He is just ignorant.

  • Are people disliking this video based on its content, or on the other beliefs of the speaker? I ask because I can't believe that so many people think servant leadership and charity are such horrible ideas. You know, based on the fact that secular humanist who advocate the same thing seem to get such high approval ratings on their videos. Why not judge the video, instead, on the content of its message?

  • My grandfather was taken to an isolated place by Croatian fascists in WWII, who then proceeded to have some fun before killing him. So, they got out their knives and started by cutting off his nose, then his ears, then gouging his eyes out & finally, cutting him open & tearing out his heart.

What was the purpose to his life ? To provide pleasure for sadists ? And where was God's place in all this ? And how did he help a widow bring up 3 young children ?

  • @JSavic The sum purpose of your life is not determined by how you die. You may live an amazing life and have it all fall to ruin at the end. As he says, your life's worth and purpose is determined by what and how you serve. The horrible nature of your grandfather's death does not undo or get rid of any good he did during his life. I don't know him, so I don't know, but you would lively be happier if you cherished his life more instead of focusing on how he died.

  • @PersonMan1234 I appreciate your attempt to find something better in my grandfather's life apart from his horrific death. However, where there is good, there is also evil opposing it. So what was the purpose of the lives of my grandfather's tormentors ? And does the existence of such evil provide ethical evidence for the non-existence of a benign God ? Many concentration camp inmates started their imprisonment with strong faith since childhood, yet some succumbed to despair & finished themselves

  • Few sentiments are as strong and universal in human societies as sexual drive. Does that mean we are "wired" by God to be horny? Shouldn't we then follow this drive instead of constantly repressing it and vilifying it the way most religious people do?

  • He keeps making reference to his book being the best selling book in history... Can anyone clear this up for me? This can't be true, why is he saying it?

  • Holy shit, this guy claims to know it all! Rick Warren is the anti-Socrates!

  • This guy is scum who went to Uganda and helped with the "Kill the Gays" bill. He is scum, and purpose driven life is pop-psychology garbage. Disgusts me that an organization as awesome as TED would let this conman speak.

  • Great conclusion though.

  • So he stopped getting salary. Paid back previous salary. Takes no money from book sales.... How does he afford food?

  • i think this talk contains falsehoods.

im not sure, the amount of disinformation in this video might even exceed the amount of useful/correct information.

  • "I personally dont have enough faith to be an atheist."

Thats a great way to look at it

  • @wreklessabandon No, it isn't.

  • @BrendanIsCool---- For those of us alittle more highly evolved than most, we have fought ourselves with faith of this unseen unknown god. . . its a great way to look at things! I dont think though that you even quite understand what he means by it!

You keep thinking that this world and this universe was made for man alone. . .keep buying your houses and talking on your 4G cell phone networks so you can keep destroying this world with purpose! right on! good for you and god !

  • @wreklessabandon the statement just makes me feel alot better about the chronic doubt ive had in this unseen unknown god. . . like the man said, you feel spirtually empty! thats why you have to pretend that god is real, in the way we have been taught. . . and that this entire system of life that surrounds was somehow made for us alone! you probably have no idea how human life was even brought to this planet do ya' Sad sad little lives! You keep your eyes to the ground, i'll keep mine to thesun

TED isn't about all agreeing with each other, it's about having an intellectual debate about the universe and humanity. This fits into that. The fact that I don't agree with him changes nothing.

  • @Drecon84 It sounds like he is preaching on a Sunday though. Booooooring. TED is supposed to be invigorating and thought provoking. the "god crap" is a serious part of what he is saying. too bad it is not true, and not new.

  • Okay, I defended Bill Graham being on TED Talks but what the hell TED.

  • how the fuck is this fat cunt on ted?

  • This man should not be at TED talking about God, unless he plans to entertain us. Otherwise he's wasting our time.

  • Seriously... the guy just says be yourself, and with the authority given to you try to do good to others. What is so damn offensive about that? I'm not even a religious man, but I found nothing offensive about a religious man trying to be a good person, and use his influence for good. Some people just hate religion beyond rea
