I love how they get quiet and the news gets louder, My theater teacher was telling my class about it and I was dying to see it. You did an awesome job making it! It fits so well!
@NoOneSpecific365 . what i mean is that it wasn't a broadcast plucked from the radio. it was specially re-recorded (based on two different broadcasts) for the record. that is FACT. :-)
Supposedly this was an actual network newsbroadcast, I remember whhen it first came out over 40 years ago, but one could easily insert a newsbroadcast from today, or from any other time from the past or from a day into the future. It personifies the human condition of any era.
Years ago I saw an import Greatest Hits and I swear it had a version of this song "Silent Night(No News)" with the news segment removed! Unfortunately, I did not purchase it! I have not seen or heard of this version since! Anyone know if it exist? Could someone please edit the news segment out and post it?! Thanks!
I listened to a cassette (!?) version of this about 20 odd years ago. Never managed to find a cd version of it. I'm compiling a personal collection of such songs/themes. This is hauntingly beautiful. And yet it touches all that is bad with us. Thanks for the upload. God bless.
I could swear I saw a (No News) version on a import cd box set years ago! Should of bought it! Haven't been able to find it since! Anyone know anything about it or have an "edited" version?!!
i tried eating a can of spinach like popeye last nite it doesnt work it just ends up all over your face and you look like a massive cock......uggg uggg ugggg ugggg uggggg
The song is from the Simon and Garfunkel album titled Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. The news is an original broadcast of that time and it was part of the song. In 2001Sony digitalised this song so we can listen to it on two separate channels now: the song on one, the news on the other.
The photos were selected by me. If I have more time, I'll add the names of the people in the photos in the order of their appearance, showing the dates of their tragic deaths.
That's not true, there is no version of the song without the news broadcast. Also on the remastered version the broadcast is mixed into the song on both channels.
However, if someone managed somehow to get the song without the broadcast, please let me know. I was looking for it for years until I accepted the fact that there is no version of the song without the broadcast (at least officially).
@siarung I heard that they played the song in concerts and... used that days broadcast in the background... to bring it "home" to the people in the audience... rumour? I don't know... but, I'm certain I heard it somewhere... you can replace the newsbroadcast with todays news... and it'd be just as sad :(
There's a 2000 year-old Latin saying: 'Tempora Mutantur et nos mutamur in illis'. Times change and we also change with them. This recording - semmingly - contradict this statement. Nothing seems to have changed in the past 40 years. Neither in the news nor in us.
Thanks for your comment. What makes it even sadder is that most of the 63 people in the photos died an unnatural death. The Kennedy family picture is even more tragic.

May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

Apparently Robert Kennedy listened to this song and wept.

This still has the punch it did back in the late Sixties. The conflicts, the lies, the wars. It just keeps going around and around.
