For better or worse, at least the cameras captured all the jackass hipsters who packed that joint in yet who sat through the whole set posing with their friends on the lawn for some cameraman that I didn't see...but to be fair, most of the kiddies at SXSW had already killed themselves for several days of all night partying at that point and most there looked like the walking dead.

actually i fully listened to the version in the video and then watched it live. i have to admit i'm a lyrics person. and the lyrics didn't do anything for me in fact i couldn't derive anything from them. i'm not some shmuck who can't hear what's good in stuff like this... and that's just it. as a musician for many years, i get it, but i guess i've come to feel an urgency... like, there's a lot to be said and no one is saying it. another stylish band isn't enough. art is boring.

For me it comes down to what it adds up to in the end. at a music festival i'd surely shake my ass to this and love it. but listening at home it comes down to whether or not there's any connection. do i feel like i "get it" or is it just more stylized art filler. there's so so so so much creative music being made that is so so so so boring. i'm hungry for another bob marley or someone who actually says something at the same time. that's just me.

as someone who was actually at the lawn party that day, i can tell you that this video doesn't do justice to that performance. the pure energy and joy in her voice was awe-inspiring. as far as the people in attendance, i can honestly say that we met some of the nicest and friendliest people (and families) from all corners of the world - all on a beautiful day in austin, texas. and i agree with @AncientSusquehanna, let's strive for less ignorance and racism. que viva la paz!

This Tune Yards song is PLAGIARIZING a good band called Lucky Dragons.

Lucky Dragons have a brilliant song called "Givers" that features vocal interplay and percussion exactly like the beginning of this song.

The band in this video stole Lucky Dragon's idea, and added cheesy reggae style vocals over it.

Youtube search "Givers" by Lucky Dragons and you'll hear.
