  • Host: Could you please say in few words when did you come up with the idea to form this unconventional band?

MT: Long time ago..we are from Rapla and then...we met in conservatory..and we were thinking of forming some sort of easy music band..Modern talking.

H: And.. and.. how did you come up with the name?

  • MT: Well, isn't it obvious? It comes form our surnames.. I am Madis Modern and..Toivo Talking. I think it is so obvious where the name comes from, obviously from our surnames, it's bit naive to ask such a question!

H: You are quite famous already when did you gain popularity in Soviet Union?

MT: long time ago, already long time ago, yeah long time ago, long time ago..

    Host: Thanks for listening!

Where the idea to make such in fasion band came from?

MT: It's long time, I told you. We came from Rapla and we met in spa.. and we thought we'd like to to some light-music band: Moder Talking.

Dict: Where came the idea for such name?

  • MT: It came from our surnames. We just made it from our surnames. I am Madis Modern.. and I am Toivo Talking. I think it is very clear where the name came from. It's naive to ask such question.

Dict: Informating TV watchers, you are very well known, when did you gain national (NSVL wide) popularity?

MT: It was long long time ago already. Long time ago.

We gained it long time ago.

    Dict: Thanks for interview.

  • what?bad english

  • hahahahahaaa Pets ruulib;)

  • hahahahahaaaaaa

  • The guy (Peeter Oja) making Thomas Anders will perform in Eurovision in Belgrad as member of Estonian Kreisiraadio doing infamous "Leto Svet"!

This show here is from popular Estonian 80s comedy show "Kitsas king" ("The Tight Shoe").

  • bleahhh.lol

  • LETO SVET

  • By the way, it's a parody.

  • Im so sory for those two,who wants to look like Modern Talking. They trying, but they looks more like fags, than MT. Better don't do this, or look yourself before posting it in public. Poor guys

  • You know, this video is almost 23 years old, some of you guys so very much disliking it now were not even born yet when it first aired! So give it a break!

Now imagine following conversation between the authors of this show and the authorities of Soviet Censorship:

  • Censors: Why do you want to air the music of that decadent western pop-group Modern Talking?

Authors of the TV show: Well, we are actually making fun of them in order to show our audience

what kind of crap they really produce in capitalist countries.

Censors: Uh, ok. That's the spirit of true Soviet citizen. Please proceed.

  • You see, I'm not saying that such conversation ever took place. But such kind of parodies where one of the

only ways to play music like Modern Talking officially on TV. And no MT fan here or anywhere should be offended.

So please, never judge the material if you don't know the context of the era of Soviet Union and what kind of

life the people had to spend in that long gone country. On top of that, this video is actually quite funny, don't you think?

  • Of course I understood that it's a parody. And of course I understand everything you wrote, because I know what was Soviet Union. OK, I was I child back then, but I remember many things from then and I know even more from my parents,so don't be so sure of my 'know' or 'don't know' about soviet life. And if it was on air 23 years ago - it was circumstances, but now it looks very bad to me so I wrote a coment with a little sarcasm.

  • Ok, understood. And sorry for not checking out your location before I wrote the comment :)

  • Really, get a life - this IS a parody! Or are your idols so vulnerable that they cannot take even a parody? My advise for free is: change your idols, dude!

  • ur making only foool of ur self, we alll know modern talking

  • even if some people see this as an huge humiliation of a "holy" 80's popband, they don't have the right to judge it without knowing the culture and way of life in soviet estonia or of the soviet union in the 80's.

and there isn't a chance they will understand. like an european trying to convince a budist munk that he is living wrong.

  • What did you agree with?

  • haha

  • is no fake . me from estonia . good land . me love video .

and for your information , you need to have SENSE of humour . i sense the humour in it , do you ?

  • So funny!The strange face.

  • hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  • NIEZLE!!!

  • madis modern ja toivo talking haha!! XD

  • hahah this is funny..lol ..I luv this band..:)

  • Indeed, I agree with jahikas - people, who haven't been lived in Soviet Union, couldn't understand that humour.

  • kõva

  • Jap, raske on l22neinimestel, kes n6ukogude ajast midagi ei tea, sellisest asjast aru saada^^.

  • heee, childhood.... Year was then 1985, or something like that.... Still fun

  • Peeter Oja näeb seal veel tõesti hea välja mida kahjuks ei saa Andrus Vaariku kohta öelda:)))

    Aga noh äge video ;)

  • fucking shit. die, MT!

  • REALLY STUPID, who thinl that is funny??? poor guys, you dont have anithing better to do ??? i repeat, REALLY STUPID...

  • Is there any particular reason why you describe your personality right here?

  • Momente ma! Das ist ja garnicht Thomas Anders!!!

  • Ausrichten, das ist nicht Thomas Anders

  • Here is the translation of interview part, divided to parts due to comment space 500 character limit (sorry for double-posting part 3!). Hope it will help to understand the sketch for those not understanding Estonian (not sure about those without sense of humour, of course):

    --------------------------------------------------------

TV host: So, with few words for introduction to our viewers -- how did you come up with idea to start such an original band?

  • Thanks!

  • "Thomas Anders": Well, it's long time since...We are from Rapla* and...

"Dieter Bohlen": Yeah, we met in sanatorium and had an idea...to start a band...sort of easy-listening...Modern Talking...

TV host: Oh yes -- the name! How was this name born?

"Thomas Anders": Like...Is it so hard to understand? Family names obviously, we simply thought in the beginning that as there already is this band called "Suveniir"**, we'd better...use our family names instead...

  • "Dieter Bohlen": Yeah, so it...

"Thomas Anders": Well, I am Madis Modern and you...

    "Dieter Bohlen": I'm Toivo Talking.

"Thomas Anders": It's just so...obvious -- why exactly this name -- so it's kind of naïve to even ask such questions, don't you think?

TV host: Our viewers sure are pleased to know that you guys are already well-known. When did you gain a Soviet Union -- wide popularity?***

"Thomas Anders": Long time ago, really long...Ah, I'm bored...

  • "Dieter Bohlen": Right, it's been long time...

"Thomas Anders": We gained it long time ago!!

    Dieter Bohlen": Long time!!

TV host: Thank you, let's listen to your music!

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Few words of guide:

*Rapla is a small town almost in the middle of Estonia

** "Suveniir" was an estonian mainstream (schlager -) band of 80's deeply loved by elderly generation and even more hated by youth

  • *** "Soviet Union -- wide popularity" is a highly sarcastic expression in given context as first Modern Talking was at peak of their success in whole Europe back in about 1987 when this sketch was recorded, and for second -- even though perestroika and glasnost had arrived, SU was still closed society and there was rarely any foreign band ever performing on it's territory (particularily Modern Talking never did as far as I can remember).

  • "Soviet Union -- wide popularity"

Võidi vihjata ka sellele, et tol ajal (1986) oli "Modern Talking" venelaste hulgas väga populaarne.

  • who do you think you are.total scheisse.leckt doch am......

  • co to za sciema jak to nie oni

  • eriti hea :'D haaaahaa ojapets on eriti in

  • Scandinavian senseof humour...

    Nobody laugh but themselves...

    even the walls are bored

  • ese tio ta loko si cree que es graciosa la imitacion que hace es un imbecil no se le parece en ningun azpecto lo imita como gay y no es gay imbecil

  • fuck you!!!!!!!!!!

  • They are actors Andrus Vaarik and Peeter Oja. Parody has been made in Estonian TV in year 1986 or 1987.

  • WTF?

  • blödsinn! they can no imitate Mt

  • funny, but I did not know that they allow gay on the show.

  • Who did this? Who are those gays who dared to do this?? They don't even know to imitate Modern Talking!!! They don't even speak correct!! And the worst part is that they used images from an original Modern Talking show!!!! This is not a rare show....this is a stupid joke!

Hmmm...Dieter and Thomas know this video?

  • Hahaa...

    XD

Andrus Vaarik ja Peeter Oja rulez:DDD

Ei, video on hea ja hästi tehtud;)

  • modern talking sucks big time and this video rules.

  • oh,just shtu up!MODERN TALKING IS THE BEST ABND EVER!!!this men are very wrong if they think they are immitating them!they are simply ridiculous!!!they only cause laugh....come on,anyone could nottice the huge differnce between the real band and those amateurs!MODERN TALKING FOREVER!!!!

  • They actually were trying to look ridiculous and cause laugh.

  • Heh, I've heard that this video was shown in Soviet Central Television as real Modern Talking :D The editors were not very familiar with western music...

  • Bull

  • vinge vana hea kömöödia!!!!jeeee !lihtsalt vana hea retro!

  • Peeter Oja ja Andrus Vaarik rokivad ^^

    Madis Modern ;D

    Toivo Talking XD

every body, shut the hell up, this vid rocks (y) better than the real modern or mother talking ;P

  • YOU WISH.....or I mean, THEY WISH!!! Oh well, imitation IS the best flattery! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

  • FALSE!

  • Very rare bullshit

  • Fuck you puugipask. You make me want to throw up!

  • YEAH!ME TOO!

  • i don't care if they wanted to cause laugh!the problem is that it appeared on tv as the real modern talking!if they think they could evere immitate modern talking, they are wrong, very wrong!i'm sorry for them, but the fans won't appreicate their joke!they are funny, but with a bitter taste...they seem to have very much envy!!!

  • They did not appear on TV as the real Modern Talking and that comes out in the interview they gave after the "show", that had nothing to do with mocking Dieter or Thomas. That was a piece from a comedy show shown in TV. And the fans actually appreciated their joke here.

  • Puugipask, ära kuula mingi lolli Austraallase möla. Jäta video alles. Kuradi nõrganärviline on mingi, raisk.

  • ottomo06, WTF is your problem? And since when is impersonating mocking? Take a freaking chill pill, or something.

  • estlander1, i think you will be the problem if you take it personally. Clearly from the vid, this is more than impersonating, it is mockery. i've said the problem already and thats that. just for your own information, there is a fine line between good comedy and bad comedy.

  • And you are the judge as to what is good comedy and bad comedy, right? Well, i say it's good comedy, so whattcha gonna do about it?

  • well live with it. It's none of my problems if u think its good comedy. I've said that its mockery and thats my problem. You would kick at the soccer ball instead at the player in soccer, wouldn't you? SO LIVE WITH OTHER PPL's OPINIONS.

  • If you think it's mockery, then that indeed is your problem. But keep your problems to your merry old self then, instead of lashing out on others.

  • Im going to be technical with you. I don't lash at anyone else or not even at the poster. You're taking it personally and "you" don't tell me what I do or don't say. Clearly you want to keep the vid on there, just say so u fucking troublemaker. I've said what I wanted and it's up to the poster's decision. Can you live with that??

  • If you want to keep the video, Just Say So. You don't tell me what I say or don't do. It's up to the poster what he has to do or he wants to do.

  • I could care less whether the video stays or not. But the thing is that you have NO right whatsoever to demand the removal of this clip. There is absolutely nothing inappropriate about it. There are thousands of impersonations like this. Do you think that Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen would be offended if they saw it? Hardly! You're a lone wolf in th forest howling over this.

  • Listen to me you bleep, there is no clause to say of rights on here. You're an obvious retard. I've already said that it's up to the poster what he wishes to do. Second, impersonating is most of the time considered rude. Especially with the gossips going on about them. I would love to see your face and see how you feel if I impersonate you with something that you want to show. That's plainly understandable isn't it? Unless you choose to be narrowminded well you can't be helped "Amen" 0-o

  • I don't even understand what the fuck you're on about anymore, so i just let you win. Good day to you, Sir!

  • Puugipask, you're such a disgrace. This video is mocking Modern Talking. Remove it because it is too inappropriate. Mockery attracts troubles and you're pissing me off bad time.

  • It is just a comedy show made in 80's but I will consider your request.

  • Take a freaking chill pill, or something!

  • mes see on oja pets seal?

  • just

  • fuck you ...

  • peace
