  • I am literally down in the dark right now! :( :)

  • sounds more kurt than mark .. i assume Lanegan did the backing vocals.. but i could be wrong.. they have similar singing voices.. kinda.. but my god how they sound like two of our greatest used fusion technique to become one God voice. hah.. (;

  • Why does the video feature nothing but kurt ? Mark Lanegan is the one who should be up there with kurt in the background or something where he truly belongs. SCREAMING TREESSSSSS !!!! awesome band !

  • @xMikeKay Dont be a dick.

  • @NIRVANArazor Don't be a moron. The song is done by Kurt, Krist, and Mark, but all I see is Kurt.

  • Defiantly my favorite for 2011. R.I.P. nirvana, gone but never to be forgotten.

  • I hate pain it is very frustrating. Fuck you pain!

  • killr dude thx 4 posting

  • OJALA TE MUERAS

  • gil

  • nevr knew they played together :( i feel dumb and unimformed

  • @captinSideways oh yeaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha you willlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • does the guitar riff sound something like what (early days) joan jett would play or is it just my imagination?

Amazing song either way - Im a huge fan of punk and grunge so plz dont take what i said as an insult, its a compliment

  • At least in this rendition, you got to admit that Mark sounds so much like Kurt.

Did Kurt really play front or just background vocals in this song? It doesn't matter, This song will always be remembered to me as, not "The Screaming Trees W/ Kurt Cobain", But "Kurt Cobain w/ The Screaming Trees"

  • @ScentlessApprentice7 you fucking rite man

  • Kurt...happy birthday!

  • Baby you're going Down In The Dark Show my lonely night is fallen and I don't have very long Think [I] might of broke my boil Within my face might burn You're gonna make it better for a little while Baby you're gonna die someday See you in your crowded wasted , then you start to fade That when we start singing faster I wouldn't wait so long Won't get any easier in the Dark Oh, yeah, yeah, yeahh You Will, You Will, You Will....
  • i love this shit and i LOVE NIRVANA

  • 1:14 TAD!!!!!!!!! God's Balls Thats Great

  • I love this song.....reminds me of the year when I first started to really listen to Nirvana's rarer songs, and compilations like this with Mark Lanegan. Love this stuff. Its such timeless music :))))

  • you can tell nirvana is in this just by the those riffs and bass lines...a real nirvana can can tell.

  • @doodlin17 Youre an idiot and you nothing about music

...did you buy your Nirvana t-shirt at Target?

  • what the fuck dude

  • why must the good die young?

    RIP Kurt.

  • he ain't dead he just took early retirement

  • The person who posted this is a fucker.

  • @iamaladycanyousaveme Who are they? I'd like to know. My band is forming a grunge revival alliance with as many bands as we can. Maybe they'd like to join.

  • @DarthVTOR hey i have a grunge band too if you want more members

  • @nirvanamelvis Sure, just friend my account, or if your band has a Facebook/Myspace/Unsigned.com let me know!

  • @DarthVTOR what state do u live in?

  • @Niquk North Carolina, most of the bands here are ska-punk-metal bands, which is still awesome. The other band we're associating with is up in Ohio, and we might be able to get another one around here too. It's not that this group isn't gonna work, it's just there aren't enough Grunge bands around here.

  • we need another economic crisis... so grunge and indie rock can come back!!!

  • fuckin awesome song:D and i know people say this all the time on here but its fuckin true why can't music today be like this that would be soooo awesome instead of having to hear alot of the crap thats out now. oh and for the12 people who didn't like this song i know thats just ur opinion......but you still SUCK!!! hahahaha

  • This is officially my favourite song from now on!!!

    NIRVANA ROCKS \m/

  • Mark is an old timer genius, has a naturally deep and powerful voice. Combined with Kurt's angelic vocals in this song, along with the amazing riff and melody of the song, this has to be one of my favourite songs.

Don't get me wrong, Kurt had a dark side too, in the sense that he could sing in a very rough, powerfully gritty voice, all of which was natural!

  • this song rocks....everything kurt touches man I can't turn down

  • @beAVENeasy It's almost like my religion.

  • @TheLeutrimExperience I feel the same Kurt and Layne save me everyday.....Listen to courtney and Kurt singing "Asking for it".....he just sings the chorus but when you here him strait rush thru your body

  • Great song

  • The poor author likely won't correct the title because they just want hits. Oh, America...

  • this song kicks ass!!!

  • if your having trouble hearing Kurt, listen hard during the chorus when they are singing "you will" you should hear him then.

  • GOD I MISS THIS TYPE OF MUSIC....

  • @darr777

    Me too.

    Nowadays music sucks.

  • i cant really hear kurt in the background that much. is it possible he doesnt sing in lanegans version, but covered the song?

  • This isnt a Nirvana song! It's Mark Lanegan featuring Kurt on backup vocals!

  • this is cool. It sounds a little like elliott smith.

  • always nirvana ...over 15 years listen to the same songs and still feeling so good ..

  • from where did you get this song?

  • from Mark Lanegan´s album "The winding sheet". If you like grunge, you should listen to that beauty. Sad, melancholic, rebel....grunge! :)

  • this is fucking awesome!!!

  • just awesome.

  • I LOOOVE Nirvana! Kurt should have kept his hair red, it looked cooler that way.

  • anyone tabs ? chords???????????????

  • Chords: Em, D ... ? Well, it's a start.

  • Damn, thought this was gonna be Kurt performing with Mark.Wish there was more footage of them playing live than there is.

  • Damn, thought this was gonna be Kurt performing with Mrak Live.Wish there was more footage of that!

  • this is one of the few songs i can truly listen to over 50 times in one day.

it really sounds like kurt, but i know it's mark

  • There is hope, still ... (ltmss)

Kurt sang backing vocals (the higher ones, in this instance) on this song, dude!

You were partly correct, at least!

ltmss = laugh to my stupid self

  • Alright you know who ever uploaded this video crediting this song to nirvana is a fucking 12 year old this song is by mark lanegan from his 1990 solo album "the winding sheet" now while kurt cobain did play guitar on this track and sang back up he did not write this song and it is not his or nirvanas

  • You should have written Mark Lanegan featuring Nirvana - Down in the dark. And it's not rare at all.

  • is it only me who think this sounds like kurts voice? I realize Im wrong, but stil..

  • Kurt is on back-up vocals

  • @raaso I agree it is similar

  • haha, thanks ;)

  • Thank you alot for posting this.

Back when I was just an ignorant little fuck I thought it was Nirvana with a guest

vocalist. Turns out I was only half right.

Now lets all argue about it.

  • You seemed a harmless little fuck, but we unleashed a lion.

  • haha, Jeremy spoke again in class today didn't he?

  • This is Mark Lanegan with Kurt doing backing vocals. Its on Mark Lanegans

    album The Winding Sheet.

  • baby you're gonna die someday

  • with a twist of lemon ^^

  • Went to buy marks vinyl on ebay, 2,000.00

  • learn how not to be a whigger whiteboy

  • This song is fuckin` sounds like Nirvana, it`s hard to believe that it was made not by them..

  • it's not Nirvana, it's Mark Laneagan... with kurt and krist

  • @V3Rd3rb3n Still awesome though

  • And you wonder why great artisist like MARK LANEGAN!!! don't get the recognition they deserve!

iF you don't know what youre saying keep your mouth shut.

All I care about is that this song is good.

  • maby the band who made it lol

  • it's the only song on the 'winding sheet' album that sounds very Cobain-ish

  • This is Mark Lanegan not Nirvana. Kurt Cobain sings background vocals

It's from Lanegan's classic The Winding Sheet

  • Mark Lanegan's song.

Lanegan is singing - cobain is playing an additional guitar on the track.

    kurt is not singing.

  • Nope, you're incorrect. I have the Winding Sheet cd

    down in the dark credits

    Mike Johnson - electric guitar

Jack Endino - bass & second electric guitar

    Mark Pickerel - drums

    Kurdt Kobain - background vocal

Kurt is credited with guitar on Where Did you Sleep Last Night?

  • @Wez666 Still awesome though

  • You can hear the creapy guitar also which is strait Kurtd.

  • Actually it's Mark Lanegan's with kurt, it's off his first solo album The Winding Sheet

  • Many thanks for the info. I have looked into it and you're absolutely right. A few more albums to listen to. Thanks again.

  • Kurt was also on Lanegan's cover of Where Did You Sleep Last Night too. Incidentally my favourite version of that song by any artist. I like the creepy atmosphere! >:]

  • Kurt just sings harmony on this song.

  • "Cobain also supplied backing vocals on "Down in the Dark" on Lanegan's debut."

  • it sounds just like kurt, and yeah kurt didn't copy that other dude. i've heard other songs of mark lanegan and he doesn't sing that way and the songs suck.

  • awesome!

  • the viddie is mis-leading. mark started as a drummer found he sucked so the band had him sing, and hes still out there kicking ass with people not even knowing his background or present. twilight singers, qotsa, gutter twins, soulsavers, and all of his own shit too. type in mark lanegan and learn something. kurt was also very much influenced by mudhoney. kurt just died in his prime thats all.

  • yes i do remember they were good friends and did alot of recordings at Lanegan's house of course Leadbelly covers is what they shared and related too

  • Thats because this is Kurt and The Screaming Trees.

  • i fuckimg love this song. what great vocals. kurt was such a great singer.

  • I think Mark Lanegan is singing and Kurt plays guitar and background vocals.

  • no he only sings backup on this song.

  • it is mark lanegan singing you douchebag

kurt plays guitar on this song only, it is a song from mark's album in 1987 - kurt copied mark lanegans vocal style - this is proof because you nirvana fans can't even tell the difference! lol

  • hey douche bag kurt didn't copy marks vocal style!its the way he sings!

  • this is a good song i haven't heard it much before... but i was wondering about the picture at 1:53? macoroni cheese? i dunno... i was looking at other stuff for a bit so maybe i missed something... yeah

  • That was his favorite food...

  • oh ok... just wondering...

seemed kinda random! makes sense now...

  • jack endino plays bass and guitar mike johnson plays guitar on this track

  • we are going to play this song on some unplugged concert...

  • I highly doubt that Kurt is playing guitar on this track... he never used a wah pedal, and this guitar is full o' wah.

  • Ah! You have a point. But it was very rare otherwise, right?

  • In the booklet for "The Winding Sheet"

Kurt is listed as playing guitar

  • on Where did you sleep\last night, but he only sings backup on this song.

  • Cobain is singing backing cocals and playing guitar in this song. While lanegan sings lead.

  • This is not a Nirvana's song. This is from Mark Lanegan's "The Winding Sheet" album, track 5. Lanegan and Cobain were friends and he wanted both voices for his song. Actually, Cobain met "where did you sleep last night" cause of Lanegan.

  • luv NIRVANA, i luv NIRVANA, i luv NIRVNA!!!!!!!!!!!RIP Kurt

  • kurt wanted to make some project with michael stipe from r.e.m also. When they found kurt dead on the floor, they also find his music box turned on with R.E.M cd in it. Sad, cause he died to young.

  • THANK YOU! I thought I knew everything about his death, but I did not know that. So sad.

  • Let me guess the song he was listening to was its the end of the world as we know it

  • NIRVANA PARA siempre DESDE URUGUAY EL FAN MAS GRANDE DE NIRVANA EN ESTE PAIS Y EL HINCHA NUMERO 1 DE PEÑAROL 5 LIBERTADORES 3 INTERCONTINENTALES

  • This music is not the Screaming Trees, but the solo album from Mark Lanegan, "The Widding Sheet", launched in 1990 with the participation of Cobain and Krist Novoselic.

  • Kurt Cobain lived as long as he needed to live.

  • what the fuck does any of that matter? listen to the damn music.

  • isn't this stp ?

douches always get them mixed up on here
