  • Hi Doc... I have been watching you videos for while now and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to give all of us some amazing information. (I just finished a level 2 FAK with your help) I have never posted before but this video really touched me!

It is so great to see your relationship with your son. I lost my father in 2006 and I have so many memories camping, hiking, fishing, etc with him I can promise you your son will one day smile thinking about those great times with you too!

  • Congrats that's awesome, and a great father-son project.

    Take care.

  • Very cool!!!

  • After I get a hf antenna up and a good tuner the ISS will be my next project

  • That is so cool Doc! On the nasa website you can get the time of a fly over and see the space station.

  • HOLY SMOKE !!!! That is unbelievable!!! You two may have hit them on other attempts, and they were just too busy to respond. VERY SUPER COOL! Way To go Boys!

  • I need to start studying the book I checked out from the library.....

Way cool to talk to the Space Station guys!

  • Doc,

Way cool. Make sure you send away for a QSL card.

    Matt,

Get your license, it will open tons of new friends.

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharin', Doc.

  • Nice work Doc! That would make a nice QSL card. I have never seen the word "cool" used so often in comments. You can also work AO-51, an orbiting repeater, and talk to others on the earth at great distances.

  • @Gorntz - well, I will let the cat out of the bag . . . that will be my first QSL card . . . they are at the printers now ;-)

I do have plans on working AO-51 in the future.

  • that is frickin cool man....thats really awesome!!!! I have been thinking of getting into ham radio for years but never got serious....can you get radios that can broadcast nd recieve for long distances??? • International Space Station!?? Wow, that is so cool! Nice job guys!

  • Hello Dr. Pruett, Great video by the way. it must have been exciting contacting something that far away. I saw that look in your eyes at 4:14 after your son said that the international space station was traveling faster than the speed of light. the speed of light travels at 3x10^8 m/s . The last time I read that was in an MCAT preparation book. Anyways, The international space station cannot surpass the speed of light- it is physically impossible for matter to do this. Please let your son know!

  • @humanentropy - will do . . . I think he was just excited :-)

  • @USNERDOC i bet! that is such a cool experience!

  • Thats really cool guys, very nice.

  • Cool Stuff I never knew you could do that. Awesome !

  • hey doc i think a great video would be ham radio 101 like the basics and go from there. when you first started the ham radio stuff i did'nt really like it but i think it would be very useful and fun to do . Keep up the great work!!!!!!!

  • Can you do like a guide and how much it would cost to do this. I think it would help a lot of people that want to get into do this.

  • @branjumba - absolutely . . . I will add that to the growing list of vids ;-) thought I would only make 10 this year . . . left that in the dust months ago! Thanks for the great idea.

  • That is very cool.

Do the charts say how far away was it at the time?

Thanks for posting the vid, I would have never known that you could do that

  • @GearBuyersGuide - Yes . . . I like the iPhone app GoSatWatch because it tells you position, speed, distance overhead, descending distance of approach and maps.

  • Very cool Doc, thanks for sharing, I truly enjoy your videos.

  • Way Kool! Congrats to you and Matt for making the contact! ;-)

  • That's so great! I can tell how excited you were and how much you wanted to make this contact. Good luck with getting the second attempt on video.

  • Thumbs Up and some Money Love my Friend!!

  • Congratulations on the contact with ISS.

So far, I’ve not been fortunate to make contact with the crew but continue to try.

BTW: AI4QT is my brother (Wil), he got me into ham radio and directed me to your channel.
