I've considered making something like this, except instead of the twisted cable I was going to use springs, a bit like how a mouse trap works. This is the first torsion bow i've seen anyone make. Lots of tension bows, however a torsion bow has the potential for more power than a tension bow of the same size. cool vid!
Salut je veux justement me crée une baliste pour un gn a Québec(l'été prochain) mais je me demandais quesque tu avait fait pour le pied et le système de lancement et chargement ???
i and my friend buildet a ballista with normal strings, but you need ofcourse more massive wood, and its heavy. but it could fire a 500gramm steel ball about 20metres..^^ (45° angle)
i think im goin to build a bigger one, cause the wood got instabil and we had to destroy for safty
@WolfTheMadMan It was meant to be that way, this bow is for LARP, I shoot people with it so It cant be too powerfull, I guess using better (and more) ropes, it would get stronger.
I saw a thing on the History Channel where they think the egytions made a ballista that used an "air shock" type spring instad of twisted rope. A couple of door pistons might add real power to your design.
?! How is this ingenious? It is both unoriginal, heavy, and inefficient. there is a reason you've never seen a bow like this on anything other than a ballista.
Like Ogunshi said, making such a bow is a simple as it looks, I have no plans for it, but you don't need any, just go for it. I have almost finished version 2.
really awesome. I'd like to make one if I could get some plans. otherwise I could always improvise based on your design here :D either way, your bow is awesome.
it does look pretty simple but really well made. I've gotten myself into making a bit of larp and boffer weapons and armor, partially thanks to your videos, Ogunshi.
you may vaguely remember me saying I was going to make a foam mat flamberge a while ago. I changed my design about half way through and now its a single edged demon sword with a waved blade and spiked basket hand guard :D I found a new art medium to love. thanks for the guiding videos. now this bow might be inspiring my next work :D
I think i should comment on Pizza!

you had an excellent idea of modifying the concept of the ballista to a bow, although it doesn't seem very powerful :/

Thank you, now I know how to shoot my bow without any hay bales :)

isnt a ballista supose to be a crossbow... not a bow
lifes40123 1 year ago
@lifes40123 , more of a siege weapon, but yes, kind of. A ballista is not supposed to be handheld.

what is pull strength and what is the rope like stuff that holds the bow arms and makes it spring back?
Locker344 1 year ago
@Locker344 I have no idea about the pull strenght, I'd say something arount 15-20 pound. The rope is simple nylon farm rope.
Xargosss 1 year ago
@Xargosss i thought it looked kinda familiar. its the stuff for like baling hay and such correct

@Locker344 yup, exactly !
