@KaRaKiTaY There was no Greek state at the time all of these Sultans were marrying Greek women. So yes, I am positive. The bottom line is, the Ottomans did not accomplish anything other than military conquest. All of "Ottoman" architecture is based on a combination of Byzantine and Persian architecture. All of the cities were already built. They built no great universities or had any famous scientists. All the ottomans did was build mosques and go to war.
@AegeanKing Famous is a non-objective word. Famous according to who? Pardon? Never heard of Islamic Golden Age? 14th century - 16th century? The world of today still reads Rumis poems.
@KaRaKiTaY Famous in history. Just like Socrates or Julius Caesar. If you come to England, France or America and say "who is mehmed II" they will say "I have no idea". @AegeanKing Reread my comment. I said "Famous according to who?" and you stupidly coming with "If you come to England and France." Ottoman State fight those nations. How do you expect attractions from their sides? From 2 countries whose country is based on exploitations of the third world. Hitler is hated over their neighbours or and for their contributions... :D
@KaRaKiTaY What are you talking about?? The west studies all civilizations whether they were enemies or not. The Vikings invaded England but the still study about them. Napoleon invaded Spain and Russia but they still say good things about him. The same is not true for the Ottomans. The ottomans were lazy and relied on the contributions of earlier empires to hold up their empire. All of the Ottoman Ships were built by former Byzantine Greek ship builders. (continued)

@AegeanKing Yeah but it's up to Islam big denial starts. :D Cause paganism has very deep roots in the Ancient Europe. It's natural that they respect their forefathers.
@KaRaKiTaY They dont even study the Ottoman Empire in American Universities. I went to school at Georgetown University and not once in any of my 4 history classes that i took did they ever mention the Ottomans or the any famous Ottoman.
@AegeanKing And ffs. Please spare me with your one-sided comments. "Why am I here? Did you ask this to yourself? Maybe inferiority complex? Live with it greek people were exploited by the Allied Forces and the best example is the situation today. They give a damn ... about you. I have no problem with the greeks. Every Turk knows his history better than any Western People. You say that at Georgetown the word Ottoman is unknown.
@KaRaKiTaY So why are coming with western ressources on Ottoman issue if the west don't care about Ottomans and relying on some of their "studies". Poor. Where we instead have the original archives. :D I don't get your goal...
@KaRaKiTaY My point is to prove to you that the Ottoman empire did not contribute anything of worth to world civilization. Lastly, I have no inferiority complex. If anything you should have the inferiority complex. Turks have not accomplished or contributed to civilization even 1 percent of what Greeks have contributed to civilization. Even the word "Europe" is of Greek nature. Hellenic civilization is an Empire of the mind that outlasts any physical empire.
@KaRaKiTaY In the words of the famous Muslim scholar Ibn Khaldun "we have to admit that the whole of Islam comes, except the religion, comes from the Greeks. Betrayal against the Greeks by the Islamic nations, equals betrayal against their own nature" .
@AegeanKing What has faith to do with origin? Islam doesn't teach sodomie or homosexuality. Besides I don't find any sources of this quotation. Weird eh? Sorrously I was lead to "Macedonia is greek" sites...
@KaRaKiTaY Maybe, google quotes on Greek by Ibn Khaldun. Anyway, be that as it may. Did you see the Byzantine Lyra? Do you see how your Kemence is from the Byzantine Lyra and that the word "Horon" is a Greek word from ancient times that means dance. Did you know the word "Efendi" has a Greek origin?
@KaRaKiTaY Saying that the Ottoman Empire had a non-imperialistic policy is like saying fish don't swim. An Empire by the very nature of the word has imperialist policies. All this shows is that instruments, dances and other things existed in the Byzantine Empire and when the Turks came they adopted many of these things just like they adopted things from the Persians and started calling it "Turkish".
@AegeanKing It was an Ottoman State... A khilafah... A caliphate... Nothing about exploiting... If you entitle taxes as exploiting then you don't know how to run a country.
@KaRaKiTaY stop trying to change history. The Ottoman empire WAS an empire by the very definition of the term Empire. Sorry, but thats fact. Just look at the merriam-webster dictionary. It is also known as an Empire in every history book. And yes, there was oppression of minorities. Christians could not have beards, own weapons, wear the color green, ride horses, serve in the army, testify against a muslim in court and they paid much higher taxes than the Muslim citizen. The list goes on and on
@KaRaKiTaY Empire: A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority. - The Free dictionary.
@KaRaKiTaY Also, contrary to popular belief, Christians were not allowed to practice their religion in the Ottoman Empire. Spreading the word of God i.e. Proselytizing is a major of tenet of Christianity. Proselytizing by Christians was forbidden in the Ottoman empire and therefor they were not able to practice their religion. Also, reading the Bible outloud outodors was forbidden.
Whatever limitations the Ottomans made against non-Muslims, Christians still were better off living under Ottomans compared to other Christian rulers in their times. They atleast had to pay taxes fear and stable, alot of Christians moved there running from their Feudal lords using them as proparty. It was forbidden to spread Christianity that doesnt mean limitation lol, they could practice their religion in churches and home which was more then enough and unique in that time.
@AegeanKingI don't get your presence here. Everbody sticks on his/her archives and history. Senseless telling me fairy tales. Or is it still the Ottoman trauma? I guess on "suitable" forums there is more space for you.
I just think that this affinites are pretty normal! Greeks and Turkish people lived together for centuries. they are brothers. Yeah it's true. I think horon is called by Greeks horoni or something like that. So what? Did we steal it? Did we apart it from you? Nope we didn't. We just shared our values, lifestyles, music, just everything. I don't get, why this is so hard to understand...
Stop depicting your inferiority feelings about the Ottomans, dont talk like you're proving facts or something. Cause all your means are that of a medievil typical Greek which goes like "Turks are man eating unhuman things, Greeks are superior they can blast lightning out their asses ". Cultures borrow things from eachother, that in no way means one derived from another. The Byzantine culture didnt have great influence at all while it was a part of the Italian Roman empire.
@lomanad whoah slow down mate. Ottoman emperor declares himself as a heir to the east-roman empire throne after, conquering Byzantine. he calls himself Ceaser (kayzer).
About influence; byzantine influenced the reneisance and the scientific progression in mid and west europe.
(some serious trolling is going on in here, and congrats to those, who trolled valiantly)
Ottoman emperor declaring means nothing how weak is that ? He compared his and the empires might to that of the Roman empire lol. Otherwise Turkish emperors acted contrary to Christian Byzantine Rulers, they tend to conquer Europe not defend. Telling the truth is always trolling to some.
@lomanad If what you tried to mean is Ottoman empire struggled to "defend" Europe; than we're talking about alternative timeline or a fiction, written by a lunatic? Roman empire and its legacy are of some importance; declaring one-self as a ceaser is accepting even claiming its heritage and fame.
About truth; next time, if a punk (not you lomanad) claims that he/she is the savior of truth and historical subject, I'm gonna demand source, until he/she bleeds to the death.
@KaRaKiTaY Ibn Khaldun "The sciences of only one nation, the Greeks, have come down to us, because they were translated through Al-Ma'mun's efforts. He was successful in this direction because he had many translators at his disposal and spent much money in this connection."
@AegeanKing "When you pick up a textbook or a monograph, you almost certainly will be reading about the Ottoman Empire from an outsider's point of view."
"Other things like this have happened in history... It is the similar to Native American history being told by the European settlers, or Irish history as filtered through the English." [Daniel Goffmann]
@KaRaKiTaY Wow, a quote from some obscure professor that nobody knows about. I give you a quote from from one of the most famous of Muslim scholars and you give me a quote from a no-name author on the ottoman empire. Sorry, no matter what you do you can never compare to the Greeks in terms of sheer academic accomplishment. There is no parallel to the Greeks in this field.
@KaRaKiTaY All of the first Ottoman administrators were former Byzantine administrators. The Capital of the Ottoman state was already built. The Ottomans did not build an Empire, they just moved into a a dead one.
@AegeanKing Like Western people were good at exploiting the countries. Where the Ottomans were humble and respects the western sciencetists. As a humble person I retreat from this non-sense coming from your side. "Aegean King"... The difference between you and Martin Luther King is that his vision come true, where yours... #FAIL :D
Western people wouldnt know Mehmed 2 means they know nothing and only interested in their own history, we cant force anyone dont talk like you dont know. Most Western historians (not all) always tend to surpress all non-Western history. If you dont know any good things about Ottomans thats related to your ignorance. Turkish culture is better then what you sum up, every culture has influences with your logic this would mean Greek culture is Egyptian, Anatolian and Turkish.
Are you an expert in Ottoman history ? i cant believe how someone could comment like this very confidently, poor fool not knowing his confidence arrives from his ignorance ! Ottoman sultans Married foreign women not beceause they were in love to their slave asses, just beceause that way the women side couldnt clame anything about the empire to theirselfs. Eliminating all kind leadership disputes.
@KaRaKiTaY Compare the Ottomans to much smaller European states like Prussia or England at the time and you see a world of difference between civilization. The Ottomans had a strong army, but thats about it. Their contribution to world civilization does not even compare to that of the Byzantines, British, Roman or ancient Greek states. I believe that is because Ottomans were based on Islam. Being Muslim makes societies backwards and therefor behind everybody else. The same is true today.
@KaRaKiTaY This idea of the Ottoman Empire being an Empire of Turks is simply not the reality. The sultans did not consider themselves Turks as the word "Turk" was mean for the lower class peasants. The Richest people in the Empire were non-muslim Greek, Armenians or Jewish merchants. Muslims were used for the Army and governors and thats about it. Even the royal dragomans were non-Muslims as it was forbidden for muslims to learn different languages.
@AegeanKing Turks were never lower class people, because according to the Islam no race is lower class. These are slanderings like that Ottomans always drank whine and let belly dancers dance in front of them. If it was like this, no muslims would live under such circumstances. They would simply revolt... I can show you documents written in turkish, persian and arabian.
@KaRaKiTaY Are you kidding? I dont care what Islam says. The Sultan was a higher class than the regular people was he not? Yes he was. The Sultan was nobility. So whether you like it or not, there was class in the Ottoman Empire.
@AegeanKing Heard about the Khilafah??? Or muslim caliphs? What are they? People of Guidance. Class system yeah, but race system... NO!!! Class system according to the "Dawah" (Mission). How you want to run a complex of the Ottoman State without a class system?
@AegeanKing I never denied the class system... Did I? Reread... I said that the Ottomans didn't degrade races. They hard times in convincing Turkmen Nomads the follow their paths and banner and their way of living, that's the story about it... Stubborn turkmen people :D. But these were sweet and funny struggles. If you read some archives then you would knew it.
@KaRaKiTaY If race was the value it would lead to supression... Would be paradox to the existing of the Ottoman Empire, having stabilized their State over centuries.
@AegeanKing Never heard about Ibni-Sina? Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi? Lagari Hasan Celebi? Piri Reis? If you are so hungry for informations about the Ottoman Empire, short way to get informations on Turkish Science is to read the work by scientists of "Foundation for Science Technology and Civilisation" on Turkish Science...
@KaRaKiTaY I have heard of these people only because my own research. I am telling you they are not famous world wide. I grew up in the west and not ONCE did we study about or hear about these people. You can go anywhere in the world and say the name "Aristotle" or "Plato" or "Archimides" and people will automatically know what you are talking about. Ottomans never contributed anything to world civilization to change it. Ottomans only know how to kill and build mosques.
A Greek is someone who is Christian and raised in a Greek family as a Greek. Not someone who's raised from very young ages as a Muslim and Turk speaking only Turkish regarding himself as a Turk fighting against Christian Slavs, Serbs, Greeks... and later dying for his Turkish land. Most of whom you claim Greek are of non-Greek foreign descent or just Turkish. Hurrem was Ukrainian, Mehmet married a serbian not Greek. Barbarros was a pure Turk, his father was also.
And today all Greeks mother and father are a mixture of Albanian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Slavic and Turkish. So you better respect your ancestors the Turks !

Every Turk knows his history better than any Western People. You say that at Georgetown the word Ottoman is unknown.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY So why are coming with western ressources on Ottoman issue if the west don't care about Ottomans and relying on some of their "studies". Poor. Where we instead have the original archives. :D I don't get your goal...
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY My point is to prove to you that the Ottoman empire did not contribute anything of worth to world civilization. Lastly, I have no inferiority complex. If anything you should have the inferiority complex. Turks have not accomplished or contributed to civilization even 1 percent of what Greeks have contributed to civilization. Even the word "Europe" is of Greek nature. Hellenic civilization is an Empire of the mind that outlasts any physical empire.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY In the words of the famous Muslim scholar Ibn Khaldun "we have to admit that the whole of Islam comes, except the religion, comes from the Greeks. Betrayal against the Greeks by the Islamic nations, equals betrayal against their own nature" .
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing What has faith to do with origin? Islam doesn't teach sodomie or homosexuality. Besides I don't find any sources of this quotation. Weird eh? Sorrously I was lead to "Macedonia is greek" sites...
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Maybe, google quotes on Greek by Ibn Khaldun. Anyway, be that as it may. Did you see the Byzantine Lyra? Do you see how your Kemence is from the Byzantine Lyra and that the word "Horon" is a Greek word from ancient times that means dance. Did you know the word "Efendi" has a Greek origin?
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing Let's assume that it's true. Would only underline the non-imperialistic policy in the sense of the exploiting.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Saying that the Ottoman Empire had a non-imperialistic policy is like saying fish don't swim. An Empire by the very nature of the word has imperialist policies. All this shows is that instruments, dances and other things existed in the Byzantine Empire and when the Turks came they adopted many of these things just like they adopted things from the Persians and started calling it "Turkish".
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing It was an Ottoman State... A khilafah... A caliphate... Nothing about exploiting... If you entitle taxes as exploiting then you don't know how to run a country.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY stop trying to change history. The Ottoman empire WAS an empire by the very definition of the term Empire. Sorry, but thats fact. Just look at the merriam-webster dictionary. It is also known as an Empire in every history book. And yes, there was oppression of minorities. Christians could not have beards, own weapons, wear the color green, ride horses, serve in the army, testify against a muslim in court and they paid much higher taxes than the Muslim citizen. The list goes on and on
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Empire: A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority. - The Free dictionary.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Also, contrary to popular belief, Christians were not allowed to practice their religion in the Ottoman Empire. Spreading the word of God i.e. Proselytizing is a major of tenet of Christianity. Proselytizing by Christians was forbidden in the Ottoman empire and therefor they were not able to practice their religion. Also, reading the Bible outloud outodors was forbidden.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing

@AegeanKing

@clevergirl16 Nobody steals culture. Culture is shared between people.

@AegeanKing
The Byzantine culture didnt have great influence at all while it was a part of the Italian Roman empire.
lomanad 11 months ago
@lomanad whoah slow down mate. Ottoman emperor declares himself as a heir to the east-roman empire throne after, conquering Byzantine. he calls himself Ceaser (kayzer).
About influence; byzantine influenced the reneisance and the scientific progression in mid and west europe.
(some serious trolling is going on in here, and congrats to those, who trolled valiantly)
umagyumag 4 months ago
@umagyumag
Ottoman emperor declaring means nothing how weak is that ? He compared his and the empires might to that of the Roman empire lol. Otherwise Turkish emperors acted contrary to Christian Byzantine Rulers, they tend to conquer Europe not defend. Telling the truth is always trolling to some.
lomanad 4 months ago
@lomanad If what you tried to mean is Ottoman empire struggled to "defend" Europe; than we're talking about alternative timeline or a fiction, written by a lunatic? Roman empire and its legacy are of some importance; declaring one-self as a ceaser is accepting even claiming its heritage and fame.
About truth; next time, if a punk (not you lomanad) claims that he/she is the savior of truth and historical subject, I'm gonna demand source, until he/she bleeds to the death.
mark my words.

@KaRaKiTaY Ibn Khaldun "The sciences of only one nation, the Greeks, have come down to us, because they were translated through Al-Ma'mun's efforts. He was successful in this direction because he had many translators at his disposal and spent much money in this connection."

#FAIL :D
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@AegeanKing

@AegeanKing
Eliminating all kind leadership disputes.
lomanad 4 months ago
@KaRaKiTaY Compare the Ottomans to much smaller European states like Prussia or England at the time and you see a world of difference between civilization. The Ottomans had a strong army, but thats about it. Their contribution to world civilization does not even compare to that of the Byzantines, British, Roman or ancient Greek states. I believe that is because Ottomans were based on Islam. Being Muslim makes societies backwards and therefor behind everybody else. The same is true today.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY If anything the woman would have been considered a traitor.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY This idea of the Ottoman Empire being an Empire of Turks is simply not the reality. The sultans did not consider themselves Turks as the word "Turk" was mean for the lower class peasants. The Richest people in the Empire were non-muslim Greek, Armenians or Jewish merchants. Muslims were used for the Army and governors and thats about it. Even the royal dragomans were non-Muslims as it was forbidden for muslims to learn different languages.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing Turks were never lower class people, because according to the Islam no race is lower class. These are slanderings like that Ottomans always drank whine and let belly dancers dance in front of them. If it was like this, no muslims would live under such circumstances. They would simply revolt... I can show you documents written in turkish, persian and arabian.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Are you kidding? I dont care what Islam says. The Sultan was a higher class than the regular people was he not? Yes he was. The Sultan was nobility. So whether you like it or not, there was class in the Ottoman Empire.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing Heard about the Khilafah??? Or muslim caliphs? What are they? People of Guidance. Class system yeah, but race system... NO!!! Class system according to the "Dawah" (Mission). How you want to run a complex of the Ottoman State without a class system?
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY Just like the Entire world knows who Alexander the Great is. Even Mehmed II studied about and admired the great Greek hero.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@AegeanKing I never denied the class system... Did I? Reread... I said that the Ottomans didn't degrade races. They hard times in convincing Turkmen Nomads the follow their paths and banner and their way of living, that's the story about it... Stubborn turkmen people :D. But these were sweet and funny struggles. If you read some archives then you would knew it.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@KaRaKiTaY If race was the value it would lead to supression... Would be paradox to the existing of the Ottoman Empire, having stabilized their State over centuries.
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago
@AegeanKing Never heard about Ibni-Sina? Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi? Lagari Hasan Celebi? Piri Reis? If you are so hungry for informations about the Ottoman Empire, short way to get informations on Turkish Science is to read the work by scientists of "Foundation for Science Technology and Civilisation" on Turkish Science...
KaRaKiTaY 1 year ago

@turquaz15 The most famous Ottoman woman, Handan Sultan, was born a Greek Christian. In fact, Barbaros married a Greek woman too named Katerina.
