About Ladislav Gerendáš - I m not sure if he has some hungarian ancestors, but it is true, that after WWII, many Magyars from southern Slovakia were moved (by the Czechoslovak government´s direction) away from their home and settled in northern Bohemia and so on, the intention was to weaken the Magyar influence in Slovakia (since the Magyars could not be expulsed as the Germans), so if Gerendáš was born in Karlovy Vary, maybe he is from that descent, but who knows...

Background of this song is that english text was forbidden for public presentation, at the (communist) time, so I.M. created song where check words that are accented, sound pretty simmilar to english words: jez, jez, jez (sounds like "yes"), Dovolenou, -nou, -nou ("no"), Vel-,Vel-,Vekou ("Well"). That was pretty smart and censors hardly could do anything ;-)

In polish newspaper Wprost, they wrote he was trumpet player in Mladek Banjo Band and his name is Ladislav Gerendáš.

I think (but I don't know exactly) he was born in Slovakia, many hungarian lives in Slovakia. The name "Géza" is an old hungarian male first name. A lot of hungarian male first name ends with "a", you know, in slav languages the "a" ending often mean feminin words.

Ivan Mladek' band is popular in Hungary, but not so popular as in Poland. The most of the Hungarian people don't understand the lyrics.

Yeah, can't tell you much. He's been part of czech culture at least since 70ies as a member of Mladek's Banjo Band, but he is an actor too - he played in cca 20 czech movies and even now, he is playing in a theatre. I was not aware that people in Hungary know him too ...

The last name sounds Hungarian and maybe even the first one but the last name is spelled in the Czech way, Gerendáš, and his official first name is really Ladislav.

He was born in 1946, played as actor in Ypsilon Theater, and played in jazz bands besides Mládek's Banjo Band.

See the video description. The meaning of the lyrics is not interesting itself. It is about water, which explains the behaviour of Karel and Gejza on the stage. I allways liked how Mladek empasized english words Yes, No and Well in totally czech song. Also rhymes "les, bez, pes, mez, rez, ves, jez" are quite interesting.
