I don;t know what neighbourhoods you went into in Amsterdam, but Bangkok more than equals it for sex on display. What you might not know is that the other 95% of the Thai sex trade happens out of sight of most foreigners... There are all sizes of brothels and short time hotels in every neighbourhood - the place is festooned with paid sex option.

But I can read statistics without living in the place they originate from, and estimates by government bodies and NGOs puts the number of prostitutes in Holland at up to 30,000 whereas the lowest estimates for Thailand are far more than that figure. It is considered reasonable that there are 200,000-300,000 prostitutes working in Thailand. You can live somewhere for years and not have a clue what is really going on. Or did you work for the WHO in both countries as well?
