They measure speed now, only for the first 5ft out of the bowlers hand. The ball is measured approx. 14 times in that period and a speed taken. However, the ball hitting the pitch slows the ball approx. 10%. Back in the 70's when Thommo got measured at 100mph - that was timed at the batsman's end, after the ball had bounced and travelled that distance. So add that 10% and his speed is around 110mph. And that was not under match conditions with adrenalin. No-one comes close.

There was a speed and accuracy competition including Lillie, Holding, Marshall, Passco, Garner, and Andy Roberts...Jeff Thompson won both events, hit middle stump every ball in the over and hit the 100mph...
A radar built in 1975 is just as accurate as one built today, maybe not as sophisticated. Thommo was clocked in 1975 doing 100mph thats 35 years ago. You would expect after that sort of time, atleast a few guys would get upto speed.

Dont get me wrong Shoaib and Lee were real quick but i heard a rumour that the guns in South Africa were calibrated faster than what the actual speed was because they wanted the 100 mph mark broken at the world cup.I think Tait is quicker than Shoaib and Lee because in Australia he has past 160kms twice.Lee and Shoaib didnt go close to breaking 160kms in Australia.
It isn't a record because the apparatus and the set up were incidental, not dedicated, ie this was not a scientific experiment with calibrated equipment. That has been done twice, and both times Jeff Thompson recorded the fastes time. His quickest was 104.4 mph. There's a clip on the studies on UTube somewhere......

Fastest ... nope.
They measure speed now, only for the first 5ft out of the bowlers hand. The ball is measured approx. 14 times in that period and a speed taken. However, the ball hitting the pitch slows the ball approx. 10%. Back in the 70's when Thommo got measured at 100mph - that was timed at the batsman's end, after the ball had bounced and travelled that distance. So add that 10% and his speed is around 110mph. And that was not under match conditions with adrenalin. No-one comes close.

If Thomson had necked as many steroids as Shoaib did, he'd have been bowling at 200kph plus!
I pity Shoaib, he should be remembered as one of the all-time greats but he took the gloss off his legacy with some stupid decisions - he might still be a hero in Pakistan but he's turned into a fat joke towards the end of his career as far as the rest of the world is concerned. As for the injuries, he should have taken better care of himself - you can't run a Ferrari on two-stroke fuel.

A radar built in 1975 is just as accurate as one built today, maybe not as sophisticated. Thommo was clocked in 1975 doing 100mph thats 35 years ago. You would expect after that sort of time, atleast a few guys would get upto speed.
Akhtar's bowling action is whats dodgy my friend. 30 years ago every ball he bowled would have been called ''no ball''.

ICC didn't change the rules for Akhtar as it did for Murali. He's been tested over and over again including in Queensland and they didn't find anything dodgy with his action. Bootom line : No other human in history has yet matched the pace of Jeff Thomson in 1974. Detailed timings on the video film show he bowled between 170km/h and 180km/h. Michael holding was closest at 170 km/h, followed by Wayne Daniel also of the West Indies just a tad slower, although some say was quicker.
Shoaib bowls at 165 km/h max in best steriod form.

Dont get me wrong Shoaib and Lee were real quick but i heard a rumour that the guns in South Africa were calibrated faster than what the actual speed was because they wanted the 100 mph mark broken at the world cup.I think Tait is quicker than Shoaib and Lee because in Australia he has past 160kms twice.Lee and Shoaib didnt go close to breaking 160kms in Australia.

It isn't a record because the apparatus and the set up were incidental, not dedicated, ie this was not a scientific experiment with calibrated equipment. That has been done twice, and both times Jeff Thompson recorded the fastes time. His quickest was 104.4 mph. There's a clip on the studies on UTube somewhere......
