  • if it's not a video, label it as so.

(great song, but this is youtube, not grooveshark. people expect a video.)

  • why the name The Santanic Satanist ? lol

  • Great song. Maybe an Oasis vibe. However listen to their other stuff. They sound nothing like them.

  • 100% Oasis

  • sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo aaaaaaaammmmmaaazzzzziiiinnnnnnngggggggggg

  • 13 hipsters think this is too mainstream...

  • I don't understand why youtube has dislike buttons... If you dislike a song/video then why watch it?

  • @derek12593 I would imagine for people who don't know they're not going to like it (until they see/hear it).

  • why is that queer Chris Crocker in related videos? -_-

  • they sound like oasis

  • CHARLOTTESVILLE FUCK YES

  • why does nobody know this song!? IT SHOULD BE FAMOUS!

  • Anatomy of a Ghost?

  • omg this song is great!!! at first i thought this was a video about the crisis in portugal (the country- i know... how ridiculous am I? ;D)... thanks to that, I found a great band

  • @zacharycharlesjones you mean the emo guys? Fuck off, this is real music

  • @zacharycharlesjones What the hell ?Do you even know anything about Portugal the Man , or the music industry at all? they have outings where they play music with everyone else no matter who you are , so long as you bring a guitar. They will never be sell outs , they do not care about money at all, they care about playing music and spreading the word.Get a life , do some research before thinking you know what you are talking about .

  • Found through "the indie rock playlist"- an excellent source of new bands to me- just passing it along for what it's worth...

  • can someone please explain why this song isnt 100x more popular?

  • i love this song so much. i sing it in the shower alll dayy.

The Man<3 Fantastic! Original! Amazing!

  • Sounds a lot like Oasis...not a bad thing!

  • @brandonmrfranck Really? it kinda reminds me of The Beatles which is not bad either! lol

  • @ThreedaysGracelova The Beatles are their true inspiration

  • Wow this is like the first time i listened to the beatles

  • reminds me of Don't look back in Anger by Oasis. similar chord changes

  • A fantastic wakeup song about war and our ignorance to it.....

  • I'm Portuguese.. and what's this about?

  • @BrunPinto Just the name of the group. or the person.

  • omg soooo goood!!!!

  • It's kind of ridiculous how much he sounds like Thomas Erak from the Fall of Troy's recent music.

  • @bigtallguy97 Eh. I can hear it, but Erak's a hardcore guy and I still think of him as a guitarist first. This guy has a much much nicer voice.

  • jesus christ portugal the man, how did you get to be so grand?

  • Does anyone else hear a George Harrison influence on his guitar solos?

  • who f cares what genre it is? Its great music thats what it is. Its F'n ROCK man.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! :Di love it!

  • what genre is this?

  • @10isplayer18

Genre!? I hate the very term. It's music at it's best. Thats the genre. Although if one must shove a music group into a file witha lable it would be considered expiramental rock.as it spans several different genre's.

  • @CriticalMass2875 ok just asking because when people ask me what kind of music i like i say "umm jason mraz and anything else with cool/interesting music or words....." like this song :)

  • @10isplayer18

I would label it under "Indie"... it's kind of experimental rock.

  • @Thomaatt 100% agree

  • @10isplayer18 black metal

  • this song was in covert affairs!!! love the show!!!

  • @7forthewin7 listen to the acoustic version too i guarantee you'll like it

  • I hear a bit of Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger" here, and that's a good thing. I really dig this band's sound.

  • @Peasprout

Great sound, lyrics are meaninful-you can feel it...

  • @Peasprout They just posted Oasis' Don't Look Back in Anger on their facebook page. Interesting comment you have.

  • @Peasprout Definitely. First thing I thought from the beginning of the song is that it sounds like Oasis.

  • Anyone understand the Buffalo Springfield reference?

  • Anyone understand the Buffalo Springfield reference?

  • I just heard this song today on KRCL, all the radio I ever need. kick rear stuff.

  • This is now one of my favorite songs...

  • the beggning sounds exactly like the beatles but i love this song

  • hha exactly why i learned this song on the guitar ^_^

  • @Pappahoward not EXACTLY but whatever its your opinion ^_*

  • Portugal is all types of different. All types.

Make sure to buy the album and support them though =D

  • anyone hear the oasis overtones in here? not that it makes it a bad song. this is a good example of a song that's greater than a sum of its parts

  • Pretty good.

  • i like the acoustic version.

  • I lyrics are so sick :D.

  • Portugal. the Man just puts me in such an infectiously good mood.

  • check out "how the leopard got its spots " from their debut album back in 2006

  • This song is great :)

  • I have seen them live too. These guys are wonderful. Each album surprises me, and the music just gets better!

  • the next song on the cd is "work all day"... this really a phenomenal album, a great live band as well if you get a chance to seem them

  • Save me, I can't be saved, I won't I'm a president's son I don't need no soul. All the soldiers say It'll be alright we may make it through the war if we make it through the night All the people they say What a lovely day yeah we won the war May have lost a million men, but we've got a million more All the people they say Share with me all of your pain I won't share your love, I need all your love Save me I can't be saved I won't I don't need no love I'm a president's son It'll be alright now
  • uh, yea, there is a big hype for indie in america. has been for a long time. this band is from wasilla, AK, which i also live in. and they've been around 4 a while. just like modest mouse and of montreal.

  • Will see them live in Germany tomorrow + interview. Hell yes!

  • where has this genre of music been hiding away???

    awesome song!!!

  • lol, did you close your eyes for the last... 3 years? since like... 2006 or 2007, there's quite a big hipe around that kind of music

  • Comment removed

  • okay, that's possible ;) you were stuck with your ordinary "Blink-Offspring-Sum41-Greenday"-style for too long i guess ;)

if you like this kind of music you should definitely listen to Hockey great band... from the USA. lotta good music coming from there right now. weird ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @7forthewin7 they have never been hiding!!!!!!! people just need to stop listening to the radio and look around for some god damn music and get off theyre asses

  • @7forthewin7 yeah i can never find any of those pesky generic indie rock bands. all i can hear on the radio is nickleback!!!!

  • @7forthewin7 It's called Indie, and it's been right in plain view for anyone willing to look for many many years.

  • @7forthewin7

Its been hiding in England, Americans are not open they are close minded people with no room for diffrent types of anything.

  • @Servant4YHWH hey man watch the stereotypes

  • @yourmomsfilms

Im not stereotyping... look at my profile.. i live in salem oregon.

  • @Servant4YHWH

    yeah, that's still stereotyping

  • @monopolyman3

How can you sterotype your own country?

I love in america, not like im saying a brits have bad teeth... thats sterotyping

  • @Servant4YHWH Doesnt matter if u live in america your still stereotyping, not all americans are "close minded people with no room for diffrent types of anything" but yes there are a lot of americans that are that way.

  • @Servant4YHWH you're just being bitchy

  • @Servant4YHWH How many have you met? Clearly not enough. Most people who are open minded don't go out bragging about it for the record....It's not like this band is hard to discover. I hate it when people give themselves this giant egotistical pat on the back for discovering music that isn't completely mainstream. Also, lol, that does not make you open minded.

  • @Servant4YHWH Also, it's not that Americans aren't open minded, it's they're on auto pilot most of the time. If you stuck this on the radio instead of Lady Gaga and the generic shitty hip hop songs we hear everyday, they'd listen to it. It's what you put in front of them, they're not going to go out looking for it. Americans work too much, a lot of European countries break up their day. They have a culture where they take time to smell the roses.

  • @Sshelly34213

Ho many Have i meet? Damn... i dont know about over 5,000.

I LIve and was born in America raised in Washington and Oregon... sooo does that answer your question??

  • @Servant4YHWH Well...not really considering that there are 300 million people in the US and growing....

There are plenty of open minded people in the US, but as I said before they don't go around bragging about it. Ironically, it is the people who are the least open minded that go boasting about this loud and proud.

In general, I think that these have more to do with personality traits, some people just know what they want and don't want to change it. We only see it as closed minded.

  • @Servant4YHWH My mother goes to a restaurant and usually ends up getting the most bland, flavorless, and conventional thing on the menu. She has no real interest in trying anything exotic because it just doesn't appeal to her. I on the other hand, actively seek out unusual things I've never heard of before because I am still searching for what I want. I feel an emotional need to seek out as many new and unique things as I possibly can.

  • @Sshelly34213

I recommend you taking her to an Indian "tandoori style" Restraunt and order Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Tikkia Masala.... Now theres no flavor or spice there!!! LOL !!!! That stuff is so spicy and full of much needed flavor america is missing.

  • @Servant4YHWH American needs flavor? I think you and I need flavor, people like us always need flavor. But let's really think about that, what does America need right now? This is such an interesting question because it's clear that America-and quite possibly a great deal of countries connected with the US-are heading towards a major downward spiral. Our congress can't even pass a budget bill without arguing over idiotic moral beliefs that aren't even a realistic moral problem.

  • @Servant4YHWH I mean, take a look back at the 90s, people were completely open minded to new musical acts. My mother constantly listened to bands like Nirvana on the radio and thought they were great. Pop culture is cyclical and we happen to be in a very low point right now. Notice how absolutely fragmented music is right now? There is no central sound out there that is domineering even indie culture. Every band I hear is so different from every other, music is reorganizing itself.

  • @Sshelly34213

But here is the deal... I HATE AMERICA..... If i could i would leave this shot hole of a country!

I would leave and then burn all documents.. passport, social security card, birth certificate, and drivers licence... Seriously i would do it tomorrow if i could.

  • @Servant4YHWH That's fascinating to me, what exactly makes you disdain America? Is it the government and its policies?-this seems unusual because this is something you should have every right to change or at least attempt to change. Or is it Americans themselves?-their reactions, moods, etc..-I also think this is something so subjective and susceptible to change that it seems silly to base your hatred on this.

Anyway, please do explain your reasoning if you don't mind.

  • @Servant4YHWH Of course the music industry, a business, is taking advantage of this vulnerability and musical vacuum that left after 9/11 killed everyone's mood. So whatever makes them money wins out. Lady Gaga keeps the music industry afloat, barely, but it keeps money coming in. If you look at the record sales of Lady Gaga, it's chump change and doesn't represent even 1% of the US population. The youtube views don't even represent 1% of the US population.

  • @Sshelly34213

    Lady GAGA!?!?!?!?!!?!?! WTF!

Lady GAGA is a homosexual hermaphrodite prostitute.....

I cant believe at she got a contract

  • @Servant4YHWH Hermaphrodites are actually people who exist lol, I think it's kind of insulting to use that as an insult. It's a genetic disorder where one's sex chromosomes create the ambiguity of gender. During crossing over of the cell's regeneration, one sex chromosome is lost. (i'm not entirely certain of the exact process, but it should be a quick google search.)

And..yea her music is awful and irritating, most of all she's an attention whore and diva.

  • @7forthewin7 Its called indie , not mainstream.. opposed to sitting and waiting for your radio or television to play it , you have to find it yourself.

  • @TheMagicCookiez wow thanks! you know, i have never communicated with a hipster before; they are so original you have to find them yourselves.

mind you my comment was a year ago, but thanks, no really.

  • @TheMagicCookiez They're not indie anymore, they signed on to Atlantic records. You're not hearing them on the radio because this Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry dance pop and crappy hip hop phenomenon is on 800 times a day on repeat.

  • this song is fucking great when your high lmao

  • Dunno why you gotta thumbs down, this is stoner music my hippie friend got me into them ahhahaah

  • I think they should play in ...Portugal

  • lawl

  • i luv this song but the only problem i have with it is how repeatitive it is. it pretty much just replay's the chorus over and over but still a gr8 song.

  • its minimalist, dumbass.

  • Amo esta canción :D

  • I've just bougth Portugal. The Man's CD... in Portugal :)

  • the intro is so fun to play on guitar holy crap

  • heard this on our cities alternative radio station and just thought it kicked ass!

  • Just saw them in madison. I hadn't heard of them before, but I became an instant fan.

  • I heard this yesterday on ..Tandeloos-radio,

    I love this song!

  • i found this band years ago by chance, and i know it was fate. they change the way you think, if you listen

  • A guy I know told me to check these guys out because they'll change my life. I'm glad I did.

  • awsome song :]

  • Wow, quite the powerful track here.

  • they sound here like oasis

  • i was thinking the same thing.

  • A smooth groove and very soulful - an instant classic. They are the greatest thing ever from Wasilla.

  • they are not portuguese ¬¬

  • its metonymy, a rhetorical device dumbass

  • i cant believe how popular these guys have gotten recently... POWER TO PORTUGAL!

  • All the soldiers say

    "It'll be alright,

we may make it through the war

if we make it through the night."

    All the people, they say:

"What a lovely day, yeah, we won the war.

May have lost a million men, but we've got a million more."

    All the people, they say.

  • best part of the song amirite?
