  • P.S. Groundation blows.

  • Actually, the phrase "every time you get pay, pay gone" is fairly indicative of the experiences of the third world peoples when a capitalist system descends on their traditional culture and ways of living. Colonization and the economic systems they left behind are designed to keep the poor people working as much as possible, in order to uphold the privalege of the wealthy.

  • @somville5389 this song is fantastic and it's impressive how it can be aplyed to everyplace you go in this CRAPitalism system!

  • @somville5389 In what way does Groundation suck? The only problem I have with them is not with the band itself, but with the lead singer's affected patois and rasta pretensions. To his credit, though, he possesses a deep understanding and appreciation of the culture. On a purely musical level the band is outstanding. By mixing elements of reggae (an imported expression of culture) and jazz/funk (a genuinely native expression of american culture) they create something original.

  • @somville5389 Also, if you're going to throw around big ideas at least spell privilege correctly.

  • @tame1999 not big ideas brethren, save the nations of africa

we must Call unto the Most High, HAILE I SELASSIE I

  • between I chant and pagan I'm totally mesmerized. If you don't understand, maybe you aren't listening.

  • If u dont understand the music that is fine but if u dont understand it please dont knock it. These sound has alot of meaning to them and u dont have to be a rasta to know what is been said.

  • ok pagan pay gone mean / in this system its pagan and once they pay u ur pay is gone meaning like they pay u money 4 ur work and as soon as u luk u have to pay bills and all these things so ur pay is really gone get it ??????

  • Saw Midnight on Kauai. About 4 years ago. About three hours of the same song with an occasionally slightly different melody or breakdown, but very little musical variance or diversity. Which is kinda cool with a trance like effect similar to Bhajans, but also kinda boring, in my opinion. Now my girlfriend wants to go see them. I guess Midnight gets another $40 from me, and one again, I dance to the same hypnotic beat all night long...

  • I apologize if I sound negative. I probably just don't 'get it'. My mama says if you don't have somthing good to say, don't sat anything at all... I actually like the CD I've heard. A real intensity to the texture of his voice, even if I can't understand him. Band is very tight as well. Also like the way the keyboardist was jumping. I need to practice non-judgment. To critical...

  • Hey Man. I don't think you are being negative. They definitely throw a trance-like vibe through their repetitiveness. For a more versatile reggae band check out Steel Pulse or Groundation.

  • yes man, groundation!

  • Sounds like he's speaking in tongues, or just mumbling half the time... All I can make out is an occasional Rastafari, or Babylon or something similar. Maybe it's intentionally difficult to understand and I'm just not hip enough, or on the linguistic inside enough to get it. Or he actually isn't saying anything at all most of the time.
