Genious demo. Give me goose bumps. I grew up with Atari 2600, and pity that games weren't technically as good as Trilobits demos! Except maybe Solaris, Pitfall II and California Games. :)
@Akira625 They didn't have the time or the equipment back then. They had to make a program on a primitive setup and get it out the door as quickly as possible.
@Replayability Besides the fact that it was bloody hard to sync stuff to a TV display, hence the term "racing the beam". There's no such thing as a frame buffer in an Atari. You'll have to draw them in real time afaik.
Impressive how far a system can go. If I understand correctly, this is a music demo done entirely on the Atari 2600, right? And it runs on it with no problem? Forgive my naivette, but I think this is incredible.
@Exevalon One of the guys who made it finally got to try it on a real Atari 2600 and it didn't look quite right. Works with an Atari 2600 emulator, though.
@wammakko : well, if you mean just the disassembly of binary, then lol.. but It would be great with a readable source code along with comment lines, though :)
For those who don't know, this is a demonstration of some of the Atari 2600's capabilities. Yes, this runs on an actual system, only it's a bit smoother. :)
How the f*ck is this possible?

@shairaptor Activisions games were the most technically advanced and best games on Atari 2600 imho.

Watching all these 2600 demos does make me wonder why there wasn't this level of creativity found in 2600 games back in the day.

@Akira625 unless I'm mistaken, programming techniques have become slightly more sophisticated in the 30 years or so since the 2600 was released.

@flygonbreloom Just to be clear, Trilobit made it, not me.

Understood, sorry, I need to stop commenting past midnight, I tend to be half asleep.

Are you using only the two player sprites to print text on screen, by changing the player sprite contents and positions on the fly?
I see such impossibilities here, printing text is probably one of the easiest.
I bow respectfully before you.

Well, I can provide the source code to any of our projects if necessary.

If only the source code was open, although it would not be that readable.
