  • Dk*heads m*********

where is the sound inglorious fk tube !!!!!!!

  • noooooo, my favourite presentation from motorvision... :( No sound - no fun

  • FuckTube.

  • Youtube sucks. This video was all about the sound and they took it off. Assholes.

  • Du hast doch überhaupt keine Ahnung du Spinner! Wer sagt denn, dass der W8 "nur" Leder hat? Warscheinlich hast du den noch nie in deinem Leben von innen gesehen... ausserdem heißt es LUXUS! (bzw. "Luxuriös")

  • thar a cunt get fucked a fore a bray thi fuckin heard in ye german cunt

  • i love this sound

  • y did they do the wagon y not the sedan?

  • The ultimate example of this engineering is the W12 that AsDttL mentioned as used in the Bugatti Veyron, pumping out 1001bhp. Its an awesome engineering feat that only the Germans could pull off. Even more impressive when you consider they had to deal with so much power from their engines they usually rip gearboxes to pieces or the tires can't grip the road!

  • You are very right except of one thing! The Veyron has got 16 zylinders, but that is even more impressive ;-)

  • The gearbox is actually built by British engineers, from the Ricardo company.

It's built to withstand up to 1500-1800 Nm (1110-1330 ft-lbs)

What's so amazing is that the W16 still manages to keep cool, simply because it's vast (7993 cc, 16 cil, QOHC) and it's a W-engine.

  • Its got a ridiculous amount of radiators. 10 if I'm correct. 3 for the engine, 2 for the superchargers, 1 for the air conditioning, 2 for the exhaust amongst others.

  • Hehe, well the engine is way too compact for it's displacement which takes away alot of the efficiency of the engine.

I still can't believe they actually have such high compression ratios in those cramped cilinderheads, combined with turbochargers.

The engineers must have had lots of head aches solving just that.

Not to mention making it go 407 km/h the way it does now.

10 radiators isn't really much if you look at how hot even a VR6 can get.

  • passat w8 4.0 liter 275hp free-breathing

    veyron w16 8.0 liter 1020hp quad-turbocharged

w16 is same as w8, just twice as long. the w12 is actually 2 side by side vr6 engines essentially joined at the crank.

  • yeah, i know ! the W16 is 2 V8 withe the same crank !

  • Yeah sounds like the same @ RockSolid.. but this is V4 x 2 in one block.. so its something like a V8 4.0 liter with 275hp.. 4 wheel drive... not bad;)

  • Oh no!!!! That's NOT the same! A VR6 has one cylinderbank, with staggered cylinders. But a W8 or a W10 or a W12 is like two VR4 (or 5 or 6) in a V-Motor.

  • What is a W8?

  • its an 8 cylinder configured in the shape of a "W" rather the regular "V"

  • it is an engine that is basically 2 V4 engines that have been fused together to save space. German power and efficiency ^^

  • The same concept as the famous ground breaking VR6?

  • Exactly. It's two 2 liter VR4 engines on the same crank.

It's compact, not as compact as a V8 though, but it as efficient as an in-line engine.

  • It's actually more compact than a V8 (atleast in length, dont know about the width), thats the whole point of the W8 engine, thus fitting so nicely into a Passat.

  • It's much wider than a V8, due to the multiple offset positions of the cilinders.

But it is shorter though, which is important for cars which have been developed for transversely mounted engines.

  • Correction, more important for cars which have been developed for longitudinally mounted V6 engines at most.

I don't think the W8 can possibly fit in a transverse FWD VW. ;)

  • It is not wider than a V8.

The two banks of VR4's are at a 15 degree angle, the V so to speak is only 72 degree's.

It is overall smaller than a V8

  • The VR4's have an offset of 15 degrees, but the two VR4's combined in the W8 are offset by 72 degrees.

  • top of the range vw

  • Nice engine!
