  • TO PLAY IT AT A SLOW TEMPO IS FINE. Now had someone come out and sang it as a ballad, that would have been a problem. So this is fine!

  • BTW, just to clarify, this song was not written by Louis Armstrong (written by Percy Venerable), but it was written to be sung by Louis Armstrong.

  • I like Marsalis' playing a lot, but he really spaced out this song. I just don't like it-my opinion though. I can see how others might like it.

  • I never liked this guy's style of playing, but always prefered the more traditional sound anyway. I agree with some comments, that Hackett's horn was one, if not the sweetest around.

  • Don't know what there is that makes this arrangement not liked, Many songs have been played up and down tempo from their norm. A great one to pick up that "stray" at the end of the night.

  • Oh no, no, no...don't like this.

This song should be loud, stupid and fast, that's what makes it awesome.

  • Wynton is a good musucian, but this is nowhere as pretty as the traditional Bobby Hacket version. - & I like Pretty !! Dick Raddatz- Minnesota

  • Encore!!!!!!!!

  • Encore!!!!!!!!

  • He changed the whole feeling of the song-and why not? Didn't Miles make a ballad out of Bye Bye Blackbird? There are endless possibilities. Change the tempo, change the rhythm, make it a bossa nova.........

  • Absolutely!! Jazz is a music of freedom!!

  • Hes my idol!!! the very best!!!

  • when did he switched to monette?

  • Wow How do you Know?

  • There are better interpretations of this number on youtube. Big Butter is not meant to be a medium slow ballad or something. It should be exitement, try Ilbofilms Climax Jazz Band from Canada, or Crackerjacks from Holland, that's more like it.

  • There's no law that says this song has to be at a certain tempo. That's why jazz is all about feeling. One night you might want to play it at a moderate tempo, the next night you might want to slow it down to a ballad tempo. As long as it swings it doesn't matter.

  • hears what i think..

all the "good ol" versions go at that fast tempo. and its what where used to hearing..kinda like your mama makeing you that good cookin..you always go back to what you have in your memory.. then youll try to do that cookin and you cant do it like her, you may put more bbq sauce or salt, change it up to your standards,,but not everyones gonna like what your cookin ,, honestly i dont care much for Wyntons version,,because its not how mama used to make it hahah ya dig brotha?

  • No, but that's your preference. I look for how expressive the musician is and what he or she brings out from within, instead of only liking what 'I'm used to hearing'.

  • you are so damn right!!!! tell em!!!

  • You sound great as always. What horn and mouthpiece is that?

  • This felt so emotional to me.

  • Con Alma...
