Is it me or is horror games more scary on ps1, its somethin about the new graphics or lack of shockin music that ruin my xbox 360 horror games. If it were me I'd put System Shock 2 higher and Doom 3 lower. Doom 3 I didn't find scary but SS2 would freak me out especially when I got spotted by a camera and swarmed with enemies. And the game has cute little monkeys that turn out to be telekinetic psychopaths!

I agree, the mid level graphics ala Playstation 1 really helped make creepy games way creepier. Not worthy of any lists, but the game King's Field creeped me out pretty hard for that very reason. Your only human companions having no faces due to graphic limitations makes it way creepier.

@derdybird Resident evil isn't as scary as it used to be. It became more action oriented when 4 came out, not that it was bad of course. The only time I was scared in 4 was when I found this thing... I don't what it was called but you needed the scoped rifle or a sniper rifle and had to aim for some weak spot with a thermal scope, otherwise it would just regenerate. That was pretty scary since I was in an enclosed area and the music matched it.

@L4drocker Well not all of the games in the list are old. Fatal frame 2 and the suffering are pretty much as new as RE4, i think. But old horror games are scarier than the new ones. First of all, the old ones are harder which makes them more scary and in the old games you usually have to run away from the horror while in the new ones you can usually shoot your horrors away. Old horror games are like old horror movies: They have more spooky moments.
