Hello IceManNYR. Do you have a copy of the promo for the Honeymooners on WPIX in which they used Spike Jones' song, You Always Hurt The Ones You Love, as part of the ad? I've been searching for that for a while. Please let me know-thank you.
WPIX is a classic. I found a tape with Iron Eagle on it taped from this channel in 1988 (its on my channel), and it bought back memories of movies airing on weekend afternoons. And I also remember the "Honeymooners" marathon every New Years.
I live in South Jersey now, and dont get this station anymore - I'm happy to hear they went back to WPIX (or PIX) and the old logo.
I'm going out on a limb, but do you remember, 20 something years ago, kids would call in to PIX and play a video game? They would say PIX every time they wanted to shoot. Take Care.
@wasteland70 I still remember that, it was called "TV Pix." They did this every afternoon during the cartoon block. Ralph Loewenstein and Bill Biery would always host those shows.
It's a good thing I still have some old tapes that my dad taped from these old stations. These old promos were so short and sweet. Good thing we YouTube to bring us these memories.
Yeah, wish i had done more taping back then. It's funny, , after having become the WB and the CW channel 11 in New York (the station on this ad) has become WPIX again, complete with the old symbol you see in the ad here. Only difference is they dropped the "W" and just call it "PIX" (i guess they think that's more hip or something lol).
Someone uploaded the old 80's WPIX commercials for the Breakfast Club, great stuff.
As is the movie "The Breakfast Club"? That's like, my all time favoritism movie. Every one of the characters is a little piece of me, you know what I mean?
I wish I was around back then. The TV stations were so simple and had great classic shows. They needs to bring back the old WGN and TBS. I don't know why it's called the "Superstation". There is nothing super about it. At least we got some of the old shows back on WGN, but we need more. TvLand is going down the toilet, to say the least.
Same here! Every Friday night, from 1984 - 88 (I guess it was throughout the week, only I watched Fridays because the weekend was there), the lineup was: The Honeymooners at 11:30 PM, followed by Star Trek (the good, ole' classic) at 12:00 AM, followed by the Twilight Zone at 1:00 AM. Man, where did those days go.....???
channel 11 used to actually represent new york city and had a distinct NYC feel to it. Ever since WB took over and now with the CW it just feels like a drone channel, just generic, filled with bad sitcoms and shows. I miss seeing stuff like Rambo, Death Wish and bloodsport on the "8 o'clock movie" every weekday night.
Yeah, really...used to be the home of classic reruns and original shows (The Magic Garden, anyone?), solid news and the NY Yankees...now it's all crappy CW shows, trashy talk/court shows and other unwatchable fare.
WhatsYak, you are 110% correct!! How is it that these crappy wannabe TV companies like the CW took over classic indy stations like WPIX, WOR, and WNEW and ruined regular TV?! What a shame to lose great things like that. At least we have the memories, I feel sorry for the kids coming up that will never have the pure joy of hearing your name called by Paula or Carol.
Ain't that the truth...when UPN folded, I thought it might mean the return of independent stations, but noooo...Fox had to keep the former afilliates together via the God-awful MyNetwork TV. And let me say that my network wouldn't be chock full of crappy reality shows, that's for damn sure!
I wish someone could put more of these WPIX ads for the Honeymooners 80s ads up.

I meant favorite. Not favoritism. I forget to put a space before I typed "movie". LOL!

Yeah, the old Ch 11 may be crap, by today's standards, but at least it wasn't generic crap.
MadScout 3 years ago
@minderoded you mean like what nyc has become with all these yuppies and hipsters taking over ethnic areas? generic and drone like?

"The Honeymooners" on WPIX. It doesn't get any better than that. (I still make sure to watch the New Year's Eve marathon every year :))

WPIX used to be such a great channel and now it isn't anything but pure bullshit shows and not enough independently run shows.
I wish they could run these "coming up next" bumpers instead of those annoying split screens.

I wouldn't say great (remember the annoying buzz during old movie showings), but at least, it was fun and watchable.
MadScout 3 years ago
Yeah the only time they ever show it now is on New Year's Eve.

Still the home of The Honeymooners in New York to this day! I just wish they would show it more often.
