Everyone in the Zone is right-handed probably because the majority of people are what I like to call "northpaws" (lefties are often referred to as "southpaws", so I thought why not).

I think the prejudice against left-handedness comes from the unholy Roman Empire and is based on both irrational supersticion, majoritarianism, and collectivism. Just like the prejudice against red hair, except I'm not sure what the cultural origin is, only that the philosophy behind it is based on those same inhumane principles.

I've heard that the reason the left hand was regarded as inferior is because in ye olde days before they perfect toilet paper people would often use hay, but for sanitary reasons they didn't want to use their dominant hand so they used their left hand.
