  • I never get tired of watching this.....

  • Wow! Makes u wonder what happened? Its all, we'll put a women wit a guitar on tv, whose awesome at it by the way. But after that, its gonna be another 25 to 30 years before a girl wit a guitar is taken really seriously again. Fuckn horse shit!

  • That was a side of Les Paul and Mary Ford that I hadn't seen before. That explains the byplay that goes on during the Les Paul/Chet Atkins sessions. What a great clip this is.

  • excellent a real piece of american history

    thanks

  • The whole skit was funny and pretty.

  • It's funny when his string breaks at the end.

  • I love how she not only keeps up with him but owns him!!!!! lol :))

  • I wonder what one of those guitars would fetch at auction. If anyone even knows where they are...

  • sometimes in life you find two people who just are meant to be together and this is one example.

  • Les Pauls stage performance was WAYYYY ahead of its time .His playing to .

  • Its so strange to see LPs playing songs like this. I've probably seen to many guns and roses videos.

  • wow she is great. another woman upstaged by a man because she does not have a p... and now that women have the gateway open to be heard.... where's all the women guitarists? I gotta do some more listening. I am sure they gotta be out there. wow. what a fun video!!!!

  • Marry's A FUCKIN GUN SLINGER!

  • ahahhaha great video really funny

  • That was great! I had no idea Mary could play guitar! Plus that string breaking was not planned, and the way they carried on, beautiful!

  • sounds a bit like Rock to me!

  • Mary Ford = adorable.

  • R.I.P. Les Paul, we will all remember you as the god who gave us life.

What is the name of this song?

  • From the sound of it Mary is a better guitar player than many of today's "guitar rockers"

  • I'd love to know what pickup Ford had in the bridge.

  • muito bons os melhores

  • Beautiful, beautiful harmonies. Thanks, Les. Thanks, Mary.

  • thanks to Ken Robinson for bringing me to this most amazing video!

  • Thanks to Google for bringing me to this viedo. :D

  • Love, love, love it!!!!! How great - subtle comedy combined with great music. And please do check out today´s "Doodle" on the Google website in memory of Les Paul - it is so cute how one can play on the strings of that virtual electric guitar ... congrats to whoever designed this - amazing!!!

RIP Les Paul and thank you for the great revolution in popular music called "electric guitar"

  • Love Les but this is to redneck for my taste

  • thumbs up if google made u search this

  • How charming.. ( All because of google...♪...)

  • there's no place like home (wonderful partnership)

    RIP from brazil!!! ; )

  • wow!! rad!

  • i love how hes intimidated :D

  • Was Mary and Les Paul married together?

  • @numanuma20 They were. They married in 1949 (after having been introduced and paired musically by Gene Autrey in 1946) and divorced in 1964. Mary Ford died of complications from diabetes in 1977, at the age of 53 according to her tombstone (she could have been even younger, her birth year has been argued). She left us at too early an age, a sad loss of an elegant, classy and talented woman.

  • @numanuma20 Yes, from 1950-1962. Their relationship ended in an ugly divorce and they could no longer work together afterwards.

  • @kntshrm I heard it was because Ford tired of touring.

  • GENIAL

  • Great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I lot of folks didn't know Mary was a picker too!

  • There will never be their equals- The best- I miss them

  • RIP mary and les paul, they are playing their music in heaven, someday we can see it there!

  • i don't hink les paul could have married anyone else starting out. he asked mary if she minded playing second fiddle ... as we see here, she was part of the act.

  • I bet Les was a bit jealous of Mary's great skills.

  • I am young enough to be glad to say I remember this when it happened. THANK YOU so much for the post and the memory

  • 4:56 SHREDDING!!!!!!

  • 2.42!!! :);)

  • If this isn't the First Couple of electric guitar, I don't know who is. Wow. Just wow. I didn't know Mary Ford could play guitar too, and apparently very well. What an adorable talented couple, and performance.

  • gold

  • I love my guitars from Gibson pre 1983 Les Paul models Yes they are heavy, but the weight relived is kind of lacking in tone. My 50s stuff varies. Some of those necks are great and some really are clunky large and not at all fun to play. I guess this is an Icon creating an Icon. For never really writing a song he sure did well. Thank you Mr. Polfus, and RIP. In the words of another great "Les never played anything in bad taste" (Chet Atkins from a 1966 interview) The truth all the way.

  • Almost surreal. Not sure there was anyone quite like them. And those guitars, Lord, those guitars.

  • Almost sounds like Piper at the Gates of Dawn at some parts. haha. Great performance.

  • Id give Les and Mary a couple hundred bucks for the 2 guitars , if they were short on cash.

  • I can't the LIKE button enough times! Amazing amazing performance.

  • whats unbelievable here is that both of them found each other in life--a perfect match both good looking both musically inclined both with great personalities and the same likenesses--they are truly the needle in a haystack or better yet the diamond in the ruft --how special and how rare--god bless them both.

  • I'm going to be smiling all day form this! beats watching chemtrail videos...:(

  • Les was great (back then). He invented the Gibson Les Paul. Great Inventor.

  • Gotta love the look Les has on his face when he broke a string... And Mary's laugh =]

  • wow Les just died recently, this guy had it all! including personality and comedy, and what a pair, she was great too, boy I missed those days!!! It brings tears to my eyes, something so warm, genuine and entertaining, this guy is like the grandaddy of a million rock guitarists, and his name is on their guitars, I just discovered this guy, and Mary, where they been all my life!!!

  • Brilliantly funny and loving husband and wife "cutting contest" Adorable! Mary won!!

  • Genius wow Mary ford could shred as good as Les RIP

  • I do believe I fell in love with Mary watching this, so hard to find a woman who can perform and be so natural on stage with you. I've been looking for years.....

    Good on you Les... R.I.P.

  • Absolutely brilliant performance. She stuck to him like glue - excellent. What a shame they have gone.

  • Her real name was Coleen Summers and she was an IDDM Insulin Dependent Diabetic.

  • les paul also created the electric guitar

  • lol

  • les paul finger tapped before anybody else

  • Awesome

  • That had to be embarrising back in the 40's that Les Paul's own wife outdid him at his own game.

  • the ease with which they do it (singing, playing, comedy) is simply superb

  • those guitars and those people? wow.

  • This is the guitar in it's TRUE element, not the joke it has become

  • I loughed so MUCH!!! Love them!

  • How cool is this?!?!

  • MARY FORD WAS A GREAT PLAYER

  • i never knew mary actually played..shes pretty good

  • @Dilson9307 yeah, i had no idea she played till i saw this clip

  • she's hot!

  • awesome :'D

  • Mary Ford with the Les Paul around her chest-what a charm!

  • cute....funny....adorable...amazing couple. Thank you so much for the technological innovations Les Paul....you are a God in music heaven.

  • precious!

  • fantastic Thank you for the listing.

  • les paul changed the meaning and the story of the music for every thing THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND THANK YOU

    RIP

  • Nobody knows the name of this song???

  • @aabacchi: I'm going to guess "No Place Like Home."

  • @aabacchi

The name of the song is "Just Married". It's was pretty old even when this video was originally shot. I have a recording of it from the early 30's by a country string band.

  • So much love in this clip.

  • I agree with all the good things said about Les... but Mary was no slouch either... this clip is Fun to watch!

  • So mellow.

  • fdasasdf

  • i love them :)

  • OH MY GOD!!! :D I ALMOST CRIED WHEN I SAW THIS!!! :D

RIP Les Paul. you will be dearly missed.

  • I knew that Les Paul was an accomplished guitarist, but I had no idea about Mary until I saw this clip. She won this guitar duel. The broken string was an amusing clincher. Les and Mary were a great team. Very talented musicians and charming personalities.

  • @SrTocolaguitarra Mary was great singer and obviously a gorgeus woman.

  • @SrTocolaguitarra Agreed, she was an incredible creature, charming, talented, such a picture of the class and elegance of women in that era. A wonderful talent and by all accounts a charming wonderful person.

  • RIP!

    great music

  • I love Les Paul and the Guitar itself. Gibsons are better than Epiphone.

  • RIP Mary and Les

  • Miss you, Les, every day.

  • he looks like joe pesci to me for some reason lol

  • Sounds like you found the star of the Les Paul movie. lol

  • @ANIKANSKYWALKERG

Actually he looks like a dentist Průša from Prague, Czech Republic. Nevermind, Mary looks just beauuuutiful!

  • haha that was great! I notice he broke a string at the end too !

  • Here he is folks! The god of guitars! He made the best guitars in the world! Lester Polsfuss

  • "The road to the Super Bowl goes through Les Paul." - David Letterman

  • I've never seen a male/female guitar duet before and especially not husband and wife.

Knew she could sing but never knew she could play. They seem like such nice folks.

What ever happened to music for adults?

Are we supposed to listen to gansta rap in our golden years?

  • wah ! it's very old !

  • Ha this video makes me laugh every time.

  • That square guitarist in his band, some things never change! X

  • exelente algo gracioso pero bien hecho

  • Beautiful....such innocence and warmth.

  • Awesome

  • Beautiful! What have we lost over the years? When did you last see something this real on TV?

  • 4:45 is the London "Big Ben" clock chimes

  • The bit they play at 4.45, where is that from?

  • I enjoy it all the time once and again...!thanks a bunch!

  • They're trying to be like "Homer & Jethro" on this one!

  • They should do this these days...

Some humor is always good XD

  • mary was just as good a guitarist as les...les was more an inventor

  • Mary was a gifted guitarist, and was Jimmy Wakely's LEAD player before joining up with Les. Of course, this was back in an age when women who stepped into the spotlight were usually not welcomed. they were supposed to play a supportive role, which she did well, but who can say what we missed by her being second fiddle to Les. A double tragedy that they divorced, and that she died young.

She was a pioneer, just like Les.

  • at about 3:17 what are they saying?

  • the verse goes ...jups out of bed says hurry up jack... and les interupts and says "the names' Les"

  • wow, she's pretty impressive!

far more entertaining as a live act than i would have expected, too.

  • great video!

  • why don't people play their LP's like this anymore xD

  • You've got a point there, for all his influence, there aren't many players who copy Les Paul's style. He never used distortion, modified even the earliest of his Gibson models (including the ones he and Mary play in this footage) to have brighter sounding pickups and actually detested that powerful fat sound that the Gibson Les Paul is known for.

  • excellent in every way. Great musicianship. great harmony signing. great entertainment.

And it's live on coast to coast tv.

Can you imagine anyone doing as well as this today?

    Neither can I.

RIP Les Paul & Mary Ford. Geniuses. Genii?

  • Mary is Awseome! what a voice I didnt realize she played guitar. and Les... great guitar playing and singing too!

  • HAHA!!!!! I never imagined he was so funny!!This vid is historycal and histerical at the same time.Awesome!!!

  • R.I.P.

  • anyone know what year was this?

  • 1954? not really sure..

  • Man,I never realized that Mary was also such a skilled guitar player.Les taught her well. That guy was the world first guitar hero no question.

  • amazing stuff, RIP

  • The original LP was a Goldtop and is the only model I really like, You can have the flames because others do it better. MIne is 34 years old and the finish has some nice green going on. The new gold looks fake in comparison.

  • Well, the gold color came from brass shavings left over from making hardware, after years of wear, the brass starts to turn green. I believe some of the really expensive custom shop LPs still use this method.

  • Yep, real gold doesn't turn color.

  • this is the best Video of LP & MF playing off each other Fantastic Playing by Both

  • R.I.P. Les Paul

  • Thanks for the Gibson Les Paul

  • rest in peace.

  • Did he break a string during that performance?? Looks like he wrapped it round the headstock after he finished?

  • Well spotted Sherlock...

  • yea he breaks a string at 5:04, you can read in his lips "I broke a string" lol

  • R.I.P for sure Les, you invented one of the all time greatest guitars, made some of my favorite old 50's music, and changed guitar playing forever.

  • Rest in blessed peace Mr. Paul

  • First song they sing is Chinese:

    Tu Ning.

    RIP to the Pioneer.

  • RIP Paul-thank you for all those marvelous years.

  • RIP Les Paul.

  • RIP les, you were a genius

  • not like this

  • This is fantastic! I didn't know they were funny! RIP Les and Mary

  • And if you listen quietly you can hear Les and Mary jamming right now.

  • The greatest!

  • Never seen a Les Paul with the output jack on the face of the body.

  • Les Paul modified even the very first Gibson Les Pauls he got, you should search up pictures of him with his collection, none of his original guitars remain in unaltered state.

  • I know all of that. Just never seen the output on the face of one of his.

  • Yessss! MARY!!!! RIP LES PAUL
