@dressedtosmellgood don't get me wrong: I am a major Zappa fan...and I have done thorough research on his music career.I simply think that the musicians he had in the Mother's of Invention were his best. There is a very good documentary on the subject called Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention: In the 60's. There is plenty of live footage and interviews with the musicians......check it out if you are a fan...it's worth watching. ;)
@dressedtosmellgood no they played his music very well....Zappa always surrounded himself with good musicians....but I think he wanted more of a solo career....and he didn't want the hassle of managing a full-time band ;)
@23Henrich lets be realistic. every single one of the mothers was severely outclassed by their replacements. ray collins was no napoleon murphy brock no ike willis nor ray white, roy estrada was no arthur barrow no tom fowler nor scott thunes nor pat ohearn.jim black was a horrible drummer, just look at his grip, he has no idea what hes doing. i am going to guess you're not a musician because you dont seem to understand how difficult zappas later stuff became tehcnically.
Are you sure this was in 1978? Because I don't think Ike Willis was in his band at the time and I think that's him wearing the goofy hat. Plus the song Conehead wasn't out until the album "You are What You Is" in the 80s
A funny thing is that this song was number one at the Swedish radio list in -79, and Frank won a listeners prize, rockbjörnen (Rockbear), for best song. When he received the prize he said: "-You're just a little different created up here in the cold north!" I guess the older generation didn't understand a word he was singing! :-)
Cleverest and funniest lyrics of all time, brilliand and great song =D RIP Frank, and may the ressurectional time be short for thy... Who the hell was Bobby Brown btw? =P
Frank Zappa did for sure not intend this song to be a smash hit... listen to the text please. i think it was so fukin sarcastic that this song went top ten in europe i think people didnt realize what the text was really about until today ;-)
Exactly right. This song is satire as much of Zappa's stuff was. Readin' some of these posts is a little disturbing as some are reading way too much into this. It was humor, satire, Zappa was a master at that and this was one of his best satirical songs - making the "cool" school jock into a pervert. That is so Zappa.
One of the most enlightened, talented and learned advocates of free speech of our times--and a pretty damn good musician, too.

Brilliant musician....but I think he was unfair to his original (Mothers of Invention) line-up.
After touring the world he didn't pay them anything and he fired them all. The original line up were by far the most talented. I love this song....
