I love desolation sound. I am leaving to there in the morning. I have been very successful with the rockfish, and they are so good, and by the way nice ling cod, it looks delicious.
I am going to alaska in July to catch ling cod. do you think my heavy weight 7 foot Okuma rod with my Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500C3 reel spooled with 20lb fire line crystal and leader of 30lb fluorocarbon P Line woutd be enough to get them in?
yes that set up sounds great . we were using 11'6 loomis salmon rods and Quantum cabo pt reels with 20 lb test and 40 lb leaders. the jig that we used was a wildon pt dart. have fun and send ssomee pics of your catches. we really enjoy the video camera for catching the moments.
i caught a 20 pound lingcod in sechelt once with my dad it was a rare catch too we got a little tug new it was a small rockcod then bang it was a huge lingcod trying to eat it
we were fishing up above aaron rapids by butte inlet in desolation sound. the trip was great. We were fishing for salmon originally but ended up fishing for lings. we now fish out of nootka on the west side of vancouver island.
Finally a good video of some good old boys catching 2 for 1, Love how you just dropped the hook into its gob like that.
