You from chicago and now you in Cali for all I now i say your a mexican. • @pedrowolcott26 You don't seem to be very bright or knowledgeable.. In fact I have a home in New Orleans in the 8th Ward in Gentilly, shop at Winn Dixie, Pay My energy bills to Cox, Entergy and the N.O. water board...Am a member of The St Augustine's Church..I eat at Popeyes, and dine at Sam's on Elysian Fields...Been doing so for the last 20 Years.I am not Mexican and My ancestors are All louisiana Natives for the last 250 years residing throughout the state. So what are You ?

  • @pedrowolcott26

For Your info, Mr Know it all, I know more about New Orleans than You will ever know..It's People like You, Louisiana transplants, that go around hating because everybody is not Black You...I am proud of My African Heritage & even more so about My Creole Heritage.I am proud to stand Up & You can't touch that.Maybe You need to wake up & Respect People & it will come back to You.Creoles are leaving the 7th ward daily because of Ignorant people like You.Get a life

  • My mother and her side is African American darkskin and my father and his side is French creole and Cuban(Spanish,Taino Indian and African) they come in all colors .I want to learn more about my creole and Cuban side.

  • If we are to believe the the Moors were black, then they invaded Europe. If we are to believe the Egytians were black then they were the perpetrators of slavery.

  • It's not white people that are dragging people out of their cars because they have white skin....it's negroes. In Haiti when whites gave negroes their freedom all the mulattoes and whites were murdered. In South Africa since the 1990's 45,000 whites (mostly women and children) have been killed by negroes. In Rhodesia the whites have been killed and driven out....now the Zimbabwian government is asking whites to come back because they can't run the farms and they are starving.

  • Creole is a unique cultural AND ethnic group! So how in the heck does that make us stuck up? People who think Creoles are stuck up are just jealous self haters. No one does it better than a Creole!

  • hello, im very fascinated by this video because im creole as well, i think i am. my great grandfather jean pierre came from france to canada and then later relocated to alabama (i think) this is also on my fathers side; my grandmothers father was pure native american so, my granpa was african french canadian and my granny was african native american, granpa was born in alabama i think, my father was born in Kansas. I technically pass as a white man (moms euro/whi). i wanted to know am i creole?

  • My father is french creole and my mother is a dark skin black woman. I have now decided to start recognizing my creole side although through my life my mom has told me that I'm black no matter how light u are. People always asked me if I was mixed so why not embrace it. Ur completely right. Creoles can recognize others. Lol

  • Hotdamn, what a nice-looking man!

  • Ty very much . you explain well coz 2 many people seem to think they are creoles and they r not the real creoles appear mostly as u and i .u look exactly like my uncle here in Florida . i am always recognized to many as cuban latina coz we usually have appearance this way ... merci ......

  • you can be spanish too

  • Well, I'm a Cheesehead - nice to meet ya.

  • There were a descent portion of Haitians that fled away from Haiti to New Orleans. Some of the Whites in New Orleans are actually Haitian and this is because of the Thousands of French that settled in Haiti.

  • What makes a Haitian Creole and a Louisiana Creole differ? I understand how the Haitians fled to Louisiana during the Revolution... but that doesn't explain the ethnic markup. Some clarity please?

  • @BetchImAmazin Many Louisiana Creoles are Bi Racial because they mixed with the Local European whites...Most Haitian Creole are for the most part not Racially mixed as much, therefore, the Coffee Color ..Although there are Many that are mixed and they are called " Metis " in FrenchCreole it's call mixed Race

  • What this man says is the gospel truth. Google Opelousas Militia 1770 and you will see that this man is telling the facts. It did not have anything to do with black. It is a fact. Look it up. The name creole was hijacked from its original meaning..

  • i am Native American, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch. aka proudly Creole

  • I'm Creole! My family is a mix of Frinch Spanish Native American indain(Choctaw) and black. I speek Patois frinch and it's a mix of Spanish & Frinch. Span owned LA b-4 france. Frinch and Spanish traders developed the slang in order to do business. They traded furs goods and slaves. Frince men loved black females and often took they as Concubins (wifes) This is where the black comes into play.Due to racism they formed there own parishes and culture in LA. Not black enough and definetly not white.

  • @augustinecomeaux Well I guess I'm just a Mulatta then . LOL My Mother is Italian and German. My Grandfather on my mother's side was straight off the Boat from Italy and My Grandmother on mothers side was from Germany and my Father was Black American . We ARE Roman Catholic though, that's what my Mother's father was so that's what she was baptized as and that's what she had her kids ( me and my sisters and brother ) Baptized and raised as .

  • this is getting confusing

i thought creoles in louisiana knew how to speak creole

  • Hmmm. you're cool with the term european American but you don't like the distinction, African American. Europe and Africa are both continents. You're first and foremost a NUT!

  • So it's wierd that people of color have co opted the word. The word Creole was a nice way of saying you didn't have any Darky Blood in you. Some how black people co opted the word and try to make it mean "The Louisiana culture and it's mix of people" But orginally it was a way to say you were white and proud of it.

  • @flubno Wake Up...You are living in the Racist past...The Word "Creole" means to "Create".. In Spanish it's pronounced Creer and in Portugese it is Criollo..Historic Verified documents say it was a Word created by the African Slave to distinguish the first Born in the New World from those arriving later..The Europeans later adopted the word to indicate the First Europeans born in the New World..It's a Fact... Now go back and start reading Your History all over again...We know Ours Do You...

  • @augustinecomeaux Preach!

  • @flubno: if the word was originally from the spanish/portugese...how, please tell me how did it originally mean that you were white and proud of it? I dont think the spanish/portugese/french were ever considered 'white.' Please wake up and stop living the racist past.

  • The Spaniards, who owned Louisiana before France had a racial word called Criollo. It ment "purity of blood" It was a part of thier caste system witch ment you were pure European, or very slightly mixed with Native Am. The French came to Louisiana & spelled the word Creole. It mean you were of pure Spanish or French decent. Didn't include black people at all.

  • @flubno You obviously don't do much reading & You are certainly not on the ball. We Creoles don't take lightly to outsiders telling Us who We are & Who We should Be.Even if what You are saying has any substance , which it doesn't .Our Ancestors Were also European Creoles as well..So stop all this BS and get real and STOP reading those 200 year old antiquated Racist definitions.Wikipedia & Most dictionaries also dispute this nonsense.Just when Will You folks stop taking credit for everything ??

  • @flubno For Your Information Mr. Historian. The French discovered & settled Louisiana not the Spanish.Louisiana was deeded to Spain after the French & English wars to keep Louisiana out of the hands of the English.Spain occupied Louisiana for about 50 years then it was secretly deeded back to France before the Louisiana Purchase Also Creole People of Color are world wide & We have Our own Language & Culture.Just what do You truthfully know about Creoles? sounds like You are a bit lost in the past

  • louisiana creole is originally haitian creole that changed over time as it travelled to louisiana

  • @djiet83

Louisiana & Haitian Creoles are separate People.Creoles Brought to Louisiana & Haiti maintained separate Cultures.During the Haitian Revolution thousands of Mixed Race Haitian Creoles fled to New Orleans, Cuba & Porto Rico to escape the Revolution but when they arrived there was a thriving Creole Culture .Some of Our Ancestors are Haitian Creoles.Creoles are throughout the New World. They are not just in Haiti..However the Haitian Creole Language is very similar to Louisiana Creole

  • @augustinecomeaux Louisiana had a thriving French Culture When the Haitian Creoles(mulattoes etc) fled haiti They had a strong influence in what is today creole louisiana. thats with culture/linguistics/food. today the creoles of louisiana have a different identity from haitian creoles.. understandable but we must know where we are from before we can go forward

  • This is a very interesting video.. There are Spanish Creole, German creole, dutch creole, etc... HAITIANS are also Creole ! Many people in Latin America call them Creole Latinos...

  • @mrdominican777 lol that is true..

  • For the record books... There are many variations of creoles..Angaus{white/anglo french,Antillean{Kre'yol Lwizya'n},Mauritian{kreyol morisyen}Bourbonnais,Seychelles,Chagos archipelago,Rodrigues,.. The correct name for the creole/le kreole language is Pidgin..Or LINGUA Franca!! Creole is NOt a language just a dialect..Swinye-toi..Soigne-toi,prends soin de toi.

  • @Basinstreetfollies

Of Course there are many types of Creoles but in this take We are talking about the Louisiana Creole of Color. And perhaps I should have made My self specifically clear but since I am American of Louisiana Creole Ancestry I am refering to My Ancestors

Also in Louisiana Creoles Speak Louisiana Creole and it a Language and not a Dialect nor is it Pidgin. You might want to talk to some Creoles that speak it and They will tell You otherwise, anyway thanks for Your input .Et Toi

  • There are many types of Creoles.. I am of mixed creole ancestry.. I am Spanish Creole, French creole, Taino Indian, Dominican, Cuban, etc.. Creoles come in many categories...

  • Louisiana Creoles are an ethnic group just like anyother ethnic group living in American. An ethnic group is people of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture. This includes language, food, music, mores, custom etc. Thank you for this video

  • @augustinecomeaux

You mentioned that you think Lousiana Creoles are the only people in the world with a triracial admixture of African, European, and Amerindian genes, however that's simply far from the truth.

My father's parents are from Northeastern Brazil, where the population is predominantly Creoles of the same admixture. You can also find Creoles of the same admixture in Peru, Cuba, Panama, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Martinique, Venezuela, Dominica, etc.

  • @Marllon .

.I'm really aware of the other Cultures as well...What I meant to say was Creole people in general ,not just Louisiana Creoles, are Tri Racial...I stand corrected

  • I'm a little stern to, It's all good now =D

  • I read into it -- Sorry I was Mis Informed <3 Apologies <3

  • Thanks for all..I feel good that there are People in the World such as You that Acknowledges the truth ..Thanks.. Your response makes me feel that I have accomplished so much...Also it goes both ways..I also apologize for My Stern approach as I can also get very frustrated at times

  • @augustinecomeaux You are welcome .We love you Augustine!!

  • You come across as an Ignorant foreigner who knows nothing about American History or Culture..Don't You think it Would be wise if You picked up a book before You opened You Mouth.,"Creole" is a Louisiana Culture and a Ethnic Group. Creoles are World Wide and are even in Your Country ..Haitian and Louisiana Creoles are not the same Culture or People. The very fact that You would make such statements shows how Ignorant You are..For Your Info I live in California and am Part Irish also and so what

  • this goes to show your ignorance. Irish people will always be Irish people and not forced to be anything else.

  • I love being Creole !

  • "Creeple" LOL! Very nice bloop. . . I'm not mad at cha! Never thought of Asian Creoles. It's probably the same as my not considering Asian Jews. But I would love to speak the language of my multi-ancestors, that would be a blast!!! Anyway, keep preachin brother. The message hasnt fallen on deaf ears. PEACE!!!!!

  • Mixed people don't just relate to Black or White only, mixed peole relate to other mixed peole, I can relate to Creoles although they have their own culture. I have mine, but I would love to go into their world and enjoy their cutture for the respect of it all.

  • I don't think Black people understand what it is like to be of different cultures and races and actually live it day in and day out. I will NOT deny my Italian heritage and I"m very proud of having my other heritages was well. I am mixed whether someone likes it or not. Black people what is it you want from mixed people? Mixed people are tired of not claiming their heritage or parents that are non black.

  • @GlitterPride300

well were were all you mixed people during the civil rights movement, to busy working for yourselves behind the scenes. fuck you. your a peice of shit and you know it.

  • @watchMEshyne "well were were all you mixed people during the civil rights movement, to busy working for yourselves behind the scenes" Marching along side blacks you moron. Frederick Douglass, mixed man. W.E.B Dubois, mixed man. Oh yeah, Nat Turner, the guy some blacks love and adore, a mixed man (not mulatto but obviously mixed based on the description given of him). Don't forget the Jewish people who helped blacks during the Civil Rights movement, most of which are mixed.

  • @watchMEshyne Just in case you become stupid, the original Jewish people, before going to Europe, looked like Arabs (both are Semitic in origin). Thousands of years later, they mixed w/ Europeans. Mixed doesn't mean black and white.

  • loving this video! :D i hate it when people think that all caribbean's originate from africa i am very proud of my black origins but i wont forget about the fact that my mother is black/asian and my father is blac/scottish we're jamaican and we love our fusion food music etc and we dont identify to a particular culture as in the caribbean we have got our own creole culture. i love all creoles i really do

  • We are from Louisiana. We were from France. We refused to fight in for Nepolian, because we were French and Jewish. When we came over, I think that it was still French. We dropped speaking French and switched to English also due to racism, but then, we were having to do that for several centuries, anyway. At least it was only you won't get anywhere with us if you don't speak English, it wasn't like it was still change you language or die.

  • @1958debs

speak for yourself...im creole as well and my family doesn't have a trace of jewish

  • im a haitian creole and i was wondering if you spoke the same creole as me

  • Haitian Creole and Louisiana Creole are one in the same...Many Haitian Refugees came to Louisiana as a result of the Revolution...Except for a few Words it is the same Language

  • man i could not have said if better myself. Im sick of black always calling us stuck up and what not..

  • how is it being stuck up? by saying we are creole it not denying that we are black. It is more to us than that. I am proud of all my ethnic backgrounds proud to be creole.

  • African American people are not 100% black either. Race is a myth there is no such thing as a "pure" group of people, especially when you get to creoles (of which I am one) which by very nature are mixed race people.

That does not discount that we do have a unique culture and identity.

  • @oneazariah "there is no such thing as a "pure" group of people"

I know this comment is old but I just wanted to reply and say that is not true. There still are pure blooded black African ethnic groups. Ever heard of the Twa(Pygmies) who are in danger of going extinct? And there are other Africans who are still pure blooded and Nigeria has one of the biggest black populations. Also not all lighter skin Africans are mixed.

  • @LuV4RoBnFaB umm... i'm addressing the idea of 'race' when i say 'group'. scientifically there is no such thing as race, much less a pure one - that point i won't even waste the time debating.

  • however, the idea of a pure bloodline is responsible for a lot of bloodshed because by implication it makes those outside of that group impure. there's a huge danger in embracing the myth of racial purity. consider european royalty back in the day, they were so inbred and many of them mentally and/or physically unstable because they wanted to keep the purity of the 'God-ordained' bloodline.

  • this doesn't go to mention the ethnic cleansing that's gone on in bosnia, yugoslovia, rwanda, germany, etc. that believed the pure race hype.

so, i concede, as your examples pointed out there are closed and isolated cultures but that by no means makes them 'pure'.

  • @oneazariah That's the crap the liberals are promoting! Yes race does exist. Why are there illnesses that effect one race of people and not others? Why is it when you look at a person who has coarse hair you know exactly where they originate? Skull shape also shows a person's origin. Caucasians evolution is not the same as Africans. Both evolved in different environments. A white man has a book called The Iceman Inheritance that explains white's origins.

  • The Twa are the oldest race of people, that's why they are in danger of going extinct. If they are human beings, then how could they not be a pure race of humans who did not evolve from any other kinds of people? You using an example of ethnic conflict is not evidence that race doesn't exist. People of the same race have conflicts with each other too. In reality the only people who are pure are the oldest race of humans that came from Ethiopia.

  • Louisiana Creoles are an ethnic group, not a racial one. It would make no sense for us to say we're mixed if race doesn't exist. There would be no sense in saying we're Mulattoes like Comeaux likes to say. We are a mixture of the African, Caucasian and Asian races. That's also why Hispanic is not a race but an ethnic group. They're like Creoles.

  • @LuV4RoBnFaB LOL i assume by 'liberals' you mean science after the 17th century. if that's the case then yeah i guess i'm adherent to the crap (read: science) that they are promoting.

as i said before this is a point that has been proven over and again that i'm not willing to entertain the debate any further.

    be blessed.

  • @oneazariah You asked for scientific evidence and that's what I sent you on that playlist. But no, you would rather believe whatever the white man says! They have always fed our people lies! You simply can't handle the real scientific evidence! You just dismiss it while all these other races support their own and see blacks as exploitation tools and make money off of us, Asians, Arabs, whites, etc. You must be happy with that!

  • Thanks for Your Comment...It makes Me feel good to know that there are a few of Us out there that still have open minds....We are all from the Black Race and People need to know that We are a Diverse Group of People...America is a Collage of People and Cultures and People of Our Race have done more then all others to make this Country a Culturally diverse Nation and Our Ancestors Most generally did not receive a Dime in return .. Thanks, thanks, thanks

  • Nothing. Being Multigenrationally Multiracial is beautiful. I am. Though not Creole. I understand somewhat of what you go through. Never let epole pressure you into being something you FEEL you are not. :)

  • nothin wrong with you being you. Creoles gave us good Cajun cookin so as far as im concerned your heritage is great.

  • No they do not. I suppose your'e only talking about louisianna creoles, and in that case I'm still right, most creoles dont look like him,Most creoles looked racially mixed and easily distinguishable as part african. Like Tina knowles There wasnt a thought as to what she was.or collin powell.

  • First of all I'm creole, that's great and wonderful however not the case for most creoles. I have an uncle who looks Indian as well and cousins who look east Asian. the point is that most creoles are easily distinguishable as part black African. Also you say Hispanic but Hispanics can look like anything Fantasia barrino is Hispanic as is christian milian, lloyd banks, fabulous, Maxwell, Tatiyana ali, Cameron Diaz, christina Aguilera, are all Hispanic.

  • I have italian french and portugues ancestry as well as some indigenous indian ancestry. However I dont look any different from the common black population. nor does my dad, or mom

  • besides creole is a culture and anyone could be creole. they have black creoles white creoles and etc. But majority of them are mixed race

  • All creole means is descendant of french speaking people. Just like hispanic means descendant of spanish speaking people. It doesn't have anythng to do with racial classifications. A pitch black african looking person can be creole.

  • @rhomeaforever Out of every1 comments i kinda agree with you more than them.. common sense would agree with your definition of describing creole as that...

  • All of these rubbish about creo. Look here I'm Haitian. & the French say that my native language is creol.Well in good ol' Haitian, we say KREYOL,not creol. Now young man who had made this video, do what you like man. live as who you like. It's freedom of choice. I beliebe that anyone should have that right withouth any fear that someone gonna drag you back while sayin', "hey man, you're black!" If citizens of other nations are allowed to claim citizenship in other countries, y not 4 race.

  • creole is not a race.trust an belive that.

  • Here We go again, When will it ever stop? No one said Creoles were a Racial Group..We are a Culture and WE are not in denial. please stop reading between the lines.Simply because We want to maintain a separate identity doesn't mean We are in Denial.Let's stop this Anti-Creole hostility. We just want to be Respected for what We really are and nothing more..Why does everybody that hears the Word Creole jump to conclusions? It appears that there is quite a bit of hostility towards Creoles.Why...

  • No one here is in denial of their African Heritage. You obviously are living in the Past.I'm Multi-Racial which means Black and White. I do not intend to deny My White Heritage because You don't feel comfortable with it. You've been programed by White society to label anyone with Black heritage Black .I decide what color I am.If Your grandmother chooses to be black that's her Right,so it's my right to choose who I should identify with.I do not accept the One Drop Rule created by White society

  • No one here is in denial of their African Heritage. You obviously are living in the Past.I'm Multi-Racial which means Black and White. • Yes, you can Say that I'm a Chicago boy.Raised on the far Southside in Altgeld Gardens , from there lived on 79th and Rhodes Attended Chicago Vocational High School in the 60's..Attended Loop Jr College and Hung around Morgan Park and Calumet City . I know Lots of folks on 79th and Buffalo and lived a short time in Pill hill off 99th and Stony Island but of Course that was in the 50's and 60's when things were a lot different in Chicago. worked downtown off Randolf Street .What an experience..

  • augustine where in chicago are you from?

  • Creole is a Culture, more so, than a Racial connotation.Jamaicans are also Creoles by definition because they are Native to Jamaica. They do not possess a Louisiana French Creole Culture but Who Cares...Creole really means Native Born in Culture and National Heritage...If You Look up the Word, Creole, You'll find that it also includes Jamaicans as well...their National Language is considered a Creole Patios, even though it is the broken Kings English...the Creoles from Beliez also speak English

  • so that you could sit in that chair and say "i cant identify with black people" that's denial your saying you cant identify with a part of yourself, or you own flesh and blood. Wow! I think all this boils down to is not wanting to be associated with blackness in any way. it would be refreshing to hear a creole who doesn't try to distance themselves from blackness,

  • racial mixture cannot make you creole, your culture does

  • French-creole sounds to me like you are saying that you are part Cajun? I am from Charleston SC and we have a big left over population of Creoles. A term the spanish used to refer to people born of mixed race in the new worlkd. Mainly the southern US, because of the large spanish population. Anyone with European, Native american, and african ancestry born in the new world were considered CREOLE. Ask my Grandma she would tell you. Her name was Elmira Mobley. Cant get more Creole than that?

  • The word Creole is an adaptation of the Spanish word criollo. The term Creole and its cognates in other languages — such as crioulo, criollo, créole, kriolu, criol, kreyol, kriulo, kriol, krio, kreol, etc. — have been applied to people in different countries and epochs, with rather different meanings. Those terms are almost always used in the general area of present or former colonies in other continents, and originally referred to locally-born people with foreign ancestry.

  • Good question... Simple answer...."Creole"...if You add up the numbers that makes You 75% Creole so I guess that's more than enough...Simple as that...Remember. the defining criteria for being Creole, as well, is Culture and I suppose Since both Your parents are Creole, you fit the mole..So I assume You eat gumbo, probably have Catholic Religious ties and have folks from Louisiana. What more can You ask for ? ....Augustine

  • mwen sé an Trinidadyen, mwen sé an Kréyol, fò ou konprann nou sé pa moun Fransé, nou pa tout mélanjé, Kréyòl sé an mannyè lavi sé pa an ras. Menm si ou nwè ou sé yon kréyòl, si ou Blan ou sé Kréyòl menm si ou Zendyen ou kréyol; pa manti a kò'w és ou konprann langaj ou?

  • @santoure Konmen le'-za'affe'...Im a Angaus,,mauritian kreole..and le-cajun...

  • all races have pretty people!!!

  • Great video!I look forward to learning more from you, because it's hard trying to get information through my family, and I've heard from other creoles as well that a lot of us tend to be secretive due to hurtful things throughout history and negative comments from people that it drove many of us to seperate from our heritage by either not talking about it or blending in with other races. I'd also like to see videos from creoles sharing stories about family and traditions, to connect with others.
