@Pesterons That ribbon was a prototype -- the answer was both... MRI position sensors work well, but so does a strip of carbon and a silver membrane. There are a few transistors doing some work in there somewhere too. The newer ribbons have been redesigned and have gate, trigger and expression control.

I'm trying to think of an application for this. Maybe a fog horn for boats? Cloudy days in the harbor? Maybe it could be used to scare away bats.
