@enisorian O.K. So I was entering the computers IP address. Thank you for that. In checking for the router IP address with linksys mine is the same as what he is showing. 192.168.1.1 It will come up but will not accept the password "admin". Says it's an invalid password.

@enisorian The only reason that you might not get the 'N' connection is if you wireless adapter in your laptop does not support a 'n' connection. It might only be able to transmit on a 'G' signal.

@enisorian I can assure you that if it says 'Wireless N', it is because that would be false advertising if it wasn't transmitting N. As for setting up the router, you can only connect to it using a wire unless you have set it for wireless administration from within the router admin page at 192.168.1.1 . Follow the instructions on the setup CD on your desktop.

he don't know what he said you don't have to connect by wire, just open up the CMD (commandpromt) and type in the following command: ipconfig then check for the default gateway and type that to the adress bar

yeah, but "wpa shared key" either means your device is older(this is where the password goes if this is correct) or the security settings are lacking strength. both are fine i guess but even though you DO have a password, that doesn't mean that somebody(in wireless range) can't see what you transmit. what the optimal settings are(by my book but this info may be incorrect) WPA2-Personal(or PSK on some devices). this means that the data you transmit and recieve are encrypted. ..cont

to my knowledge some older devices only support wifi or shared key input. both of these do not support encryption methods. my device(HTC Ozone) supports 'wifi' but ALSO supports 802.1x network access control. this means that it supports what ever 'wifi' is and wireless-g(you probally hear about this and 'n' a lot) connectivity but im not sure about n though. this all may seem confusing, even to me, but i try to explain what i can.
