  • I was 10 years old and had just noticed Star Trek TNG as they aired it on Fox every night of the week during that time. I saw this movie opening weekend in theaters and it had a fan crowd like I'd never seen before. People actually clapped when Chang's ship was destroyed. I'll never forget how new it was to me back then. The theater actually had a model Enterprise and a model Bird of Prey with battle damage hanging from the ceiling in the lobby, and played the soundtrack to VI constantly.

  • Epic trailer!!!

  • This was easily the best Star Trek movie. ST4 was good too.

  • no offence, but several movies too many

  • Wow, 20 years old already. Holy cow, it's hard to believe it's been that long. I saw this in the theater when I was almost 13. It was friggin' EPIC on the big screen.

  • @MikeAM78 It was epic man. Big-time! I bet as a 13 yr old it blew your mind!

  • it has become my favorite a great end for Jim's crew

  • 0:43 star wars blasters attack the chancelor's ship xD that's how they knew it wasn't the enterprise that fired.....

  • My favourite Star Trek films: 1. The Search for Spock, 2. The Undiscovered Country, 3. First Contact, 4. The Voyage Home, 5. The Final Frontier

  • @BornToSayTheObvious ugh....Where is Wrath of Khan???? And Final Frontier is one of the worst movies EVER!!!!

  • @TheLostfan24 I know what you must be thinking but Wrath of Khan didn't manage to surprise me.

  • On the other hand, another might argue that this text is

carefully constructed propaganda designed to "let slip

the dogs of war". A Wiki Leak?

Cry Havoc : "I'm soo confused".

Let slip the dogs of war : "Blue team, attack".

    From Star Trek VI :

    We haven't fired.

According to our database, we have.

  • The present day financial crisis, or financial chaos, may be a

case of "cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war". Perhaps the

"terrorists" are purposely sabotaging the banking system, to

destroy the United States? If Reagan had not deregulated

the S&L industry... But who would believe that Reagan was

a "closet communist"? Nevertheless, judge a tree by its fruit.

  • Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.

    Possble meaning :

Havoc means "disorder", or "chaos" (the appearance

of disorder). Hence, to "cry havoc" is to say, "I have no

idea what is going on". And to "cry havoc and let slip

the dogs of war" is to pretend not to know what is going

    on, while instigating "chaos".

  • best Star Trek movie in my opinon :)

  • In Shakespeare, the undiscovered country (from whose bourn no traveller returns) is death. In Star Trek, it's the future.

And this is why Star Trek is AWESOME.

  • Interesting how Worf is Kirk and McCoy's lawyer. It was nice to finally see the space ship gravity stop working for once.

  • i think the biggest problem this film has is its unspectacular / boring ending. old man dramatically running hallways up and down and finally beat a guy with a gun. *yawn*

  • I don't know what it is, but I'll take this one over Wrath of Kahn any day!

  • UNLEASH THE DOGS OF WAR!!!

  • "CRY HAVOC" hahah Know your classics peeps.

  • "Theres nothing wrong with the bloody thing!"

Definitely a highlight in the Star Trek franchise.

  • This was one of the best Star Trek movies. This and Star Trek: The Voyage Home were my favorite Star Trek movies. The Wrath of Khan and First Contact were great, as well.

  • "Now the crew of the Starship Enterprise fights, not to win battles, but to end them. Forever."

  • The Klingons represent Id: they are warlike and vicious. Honor is the most important thing to them.

The Vulcans represent Ego: they are focused, logical, and peaceful. Never falling victim to their passions.

In a metaphorical sense they represent the duality of man.

We all have a dark, malicious side. But then there is the side that some highly intelligent people use to their advantage. This is where science, technology and philosophy come into place.

  • @dude75able

What happened to the Klingon Homeworld, Q'nos? After Praxis exploded, wheren't the Klingons supposed to evacuate their homeworld. In the Next Generation series, it appears their was no evacuation.

So what happened? Was Q'nos deemed ok to live on afterall?

  • @pluto4847 Most of them settled at Khitomer.

I think the Vulcans came up with a solution to restore Q'onos's atmosphere and ozone.

That was a success. But not even Spock could save Romulus in the new movie!

  • @dude75able

Cool! So how did the Vulcans manage to do it?

  • @pluto4847 I'll have to get back to you with a more logical response. But my theory is that they used some kind of compounds to synthesize a greenhouse effect on Q'onos.

  • @pluto4847 A wizard did it! :P

  • lol, Chekhov guess whose coming to dinner?lol

  • FYI this was a test film for Dolby Digital 5.1. The very first film. Much like the same way that Superman 1 had Dolby Stereo 5.1. Batman Returns would get the wide release and prove to be a success. Jurassic Park, however, was tested and released in DTS 5.1, Dolby Stereo, and Dolby 5.1.

  • I refuse to belive this was 20 years ago already, I'm only 34 .

  • @1969ChargerRTSE

Indeed. I don't remember this movie releasing because I was a month old exactly when this was made. Long time eh? lol.

  • @1969ChargerRTSE 12-6-2011 will mark the 20th Anniversary of Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country ..

I remember seeing the first run!

  • Definitely the best Trek movie trailer out there. Awesome narration, tells you everything you need to know, and doesn't lie like the fucking Generations trailers.

  • Wow... 347,264 views and counting. Something to be said about movies you keep going back and watching over and over.

  • While certainly not a flawless movie, this is my favorite Star Trek movie.

  • Is it just me, or are they using the weapons sounds from Star Wars?

  • @TheWinMacLinTechie Same companies work for both franchises :)

  • This is one of my favorite Star Trek Movies. Love this!

  • Chang: I have so wanted to meet you captain. One warrior to another?"

    Kirk: "Riiiiiighht....."

I loved this movie so much.

I have the Undiscovered Country soundtrack, yet I don't recall ever hearing the arrangement from 1:16 - 1:45. was that track just made for the trailer and if so does anyone know what it's called?

  • @UndyingNephalim I dont recall the name but it is on the soundtrack as an extended piece during the build up and battle at camp Khitomer.

  • @Hoodmonsa

I have both the original and Expanded soundtracks and can't seem to find it. By camp Khitomer did you mean the track Battle for Peace?

  • I wonder how freaked out the fans were when they saw Kirk vaporized.

  • The more I see Star Trek VI I appreciate it even more.

  • shatner almost destroyed star trek with his directing

  • @supermanfan62 I.....greatly.....disa...gree!(or how ever shatner would say it!)

  • I think this one and the 2nd movie had by far the best ship to ship battles in the entire movie saga

  • Great film!!

  • This is a pretty underrated Trek film.

  • Star Trek + Nicholas Meyer = WIN!

  • Christopher Plummer's performance in this was tremendous!

  • Cry havoc! And let slip the Dogs of War!

  • I love this movie! It's the movie where I first discovered Klingons bleed Pepto-Bismol!! lol!! and Christopher Plummer is fantastic in this...

  • I too remember going to see this great movie at the age of 17 and think this is my fav. Of them all very cool movie !! Captain Kirk at his best !!!! ;-)))

  • Sulu would love to "play" with the warp cells....they look so cone like and round to go up and down with

  • I remember seeing this in the theater when I was 12; very epic to say the least! "Wrath of Khan" might be a better work of cinema, but this is still my favorite Star Trek film.

  • If only the Next Generation had had a movie this good to end on!

  • Tearjerker moment prior to the end credits when showed the actors' signatures. First movie to do this in history?

  • 'I havoc!! and let us slip the dogs of war!!!'

  • @Atem2000 It's "Cry Havoc", god that Chang's got Shakespeare quotes up the wazoo!

  • Some day ( about mid 23 centuary) we will thank the trekkies when they save our asses from the klingons

  • After this movie everytime Christian Slater sees an Asian man; he wonders if he has a hearing problem !

  • Saw STAR TREK VI in 70mm Dolby stereo THX three times in one day at the Empire Leicester Square London, February 14th 1992 it was JBL deep low end out of this world fun.

  • A great movie for the original crew to bow out with.

  • @bluenail03 star trek 6 was in 1991; this would not be the last star trek movie for Kirk, Scotty, Chekov who were all in star trek 7 in 1994, and Spock in star trek 11 in 2009 (as the played by the original actors) but it was the last on screen for Uhura, Bones and Sulu (although Sulu later did Voyager in the mid 90's with a plot that was linked to this movie)

  • @bluenail03 Totally agree. I imagine they probably tried to make just ONE more with them, but I'm glad they didn't

  • One of the best "Trek" movies. I remember seeing this in the theater when I was just about 13, and it was f'in EPIC on the big screen. :)

  • I. Want. To. See. This. NOW!!!!

I've seen 2-4 several times, and I finally convinced my parents to borrow 1 from the library. Now I must convince them to borrow 5-7, especially 6, from the library.

    I am so deprived. :(

  • why the undescovered country???????????

  • @georgel19841

It was the original sub-title for Star Trek 2, whicht he studio made the director change. The phrase "The Undiscovered Country" is from Hamlet and its a reference to death, "that undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns". In the film, "the undiscovered country" is a reference to the future.

  • Neat-O Torpedo!

  • 6 People thought Star Trek V was better...

  • 223 likes n 6 dis...the 6 need to hide in shame!!!:)

  • they should have let the klingons die.

  • At 1:41 BJ Davis starts the war by killing Klingons - Beege rocks! :)

  • Cry havok and lets slip the dogs of war! - best line

  • Cracking ending to the original crews adventures. Great to see W. Morgan Sheppard as the klingon prison boss.

  • I just realized that the admiral to the right of Spock at the beginning also played Sisko's father

  • @SSJ3Trunks91 OMG! You're right! The restaurant owner on Earth!

  • I'm pretty new to the Star Trek sub-culture and I'm really fascinated with all of it. Can anyone tell me which episode or movie (if there is any) of the Star Trek franchise that shows how the Federation and the Klingons made peace? Thanks.

  • @mahdogzbite Despite some exceptions, the Klingons and the Federation have been allies ever since the events of Star Trek VI. There are plenty of TNG,VOY and DS9 episodes that showcase there alliance like DS9:"By Inferno's Light" which featured Kilngons fighting alongside the Fed in the Dominion War. Although I once saw a TOS episode which oddly enough featured Kirk and a Klingon General getting along in the end.

  • @fROmTh3fUTURe

OK... I thought there was a particular moment in the Star Trek universe when the Klingons and the Feds came together. I'm curious because I just watched an epsiode of TNG where cloaked Klingon warbirds worked with the Enterprise to scare off the Romulans. Before that, I thought that there was just a ceasefire or maybe an alliance between the two... I never thought the Klingons actually made it as a member of the Federation of Planets. Thanks.

  • @mahdogzbite Oh wait... what am I saying.... the Klingon empire is not a member of the Federation... my bad. I just got corrected through text messaging by my Trekker friends. Thanks again.

  • @mahdogzbite They are by the 26th century, (See Enterprise: Azati Prime). Since the Organian trety they have practically been the extreme wing of Starfleet anyway. Most fan theories have the Klingon Empire going through a renaissance with science and culture being more important in thier society as the reason for the inclusion into the Federation.

  • @mahdogzbite Your welcome, I'm considerably new myself. Although I've always had a big spot in my heart for Star Trek ever since Generations (1994).

  • order isomorphism

  • this is why the new movie is not the best

  • the purple blood in this makes me feel quizeey

  • the argument between spock and kirk at the beginning of this movie is an all time classic. "you should have trusted me"

  • At 0:45 there is a Tie figher sound shooting on IKS Kronos One.

  • Glad they went out on such a high note!

  • Top 5 trek films:

Star Trek 1: the undiscovered country

. Star Trek 2 First Contact

Star Trek 3 - The Search for spock that was a good one

    Star Trek 4 (2009)

    star trek 5 generations

  • @satownhoward Wrath of Khan needs to be on this list not search for spock, that was such a terrible movie. The best Star Trek Movies are

    Wrath of Khan

    Undiscovered Country

    First Contact

    Voyage Home

  • @satownhoward I think you forgot to add "The Wrath of Khan" as the #1 Star Trek movie. ;)

  • @qopha I'd say VI is better than II due to its stronger moral contents.

  • lol at trailer company using Sky THX sounds.

  • Damn good music score. Too bad the track used in this trailer wasn't on the soundtrack.

  • A shame that the trailer was better than the actual movie

(I liked the movie, but the trailer made it out to be a pure adrenaline rush, which it was not)

  • So? What really matters is the story and how well written it is and it was overall. It had depth and substance to it which is a lot more than the new movie which was why I was so disappointed with it. It's a real shame it looks like trek's days of the exploration of the human condition is definitely over now.

  • Top 5 trek films:

    1. Star Trek First Contact

    2. Star Trek (2009)

    3. Star trek 2: Wrath of Khan

    4. Star Trek 6: the undiscovered country

    5. Star Trek 4: the Voyage Home

  • Who's the chick at 1:22 on the cigar?

  • @Deadjuice360 Her name is Iman, google it

  • @bozomal No thanks. She may be pretty hot, but I'm not obsessive. If I just ask, someone will eventually do the work of searching for me.

  • space channel!!

  • This film was wonderful. If only they had a larger budget to incorporate the utterly brilliant storyline with greater special effects and explored Chang's character more (I'm a die-hard Plummer fan). It's also a shame that Generations didn't pick up immediately where this film ended and wasn't the epic follow-up/crossover between TOS and TNG that it could have been...had a great mind like Nick Meyer written it...

    - ATMD

  • DON'T TRUST EM

  • Nicholas Meyer is a genius, its too bad he's never been asked to do another Trek Movie or another sci fi movie for that matter, the guy is just awesome.

  • The new "Star Trek" is pure crap. THIS IS Star Trek, the best, with "The Motion Picture" and "The Wrath of Khan".

  • That would be Worf's grandfather tried to defend Kirk and McCoy. Worf is on the Jedi council. :D

  • @MegaDaniel1414 Jedi council? This isn't Star Wars. I find it interesting how they tied The Original Series and TNG together with having an appearance by Michael Dorn...playing Worf, Worf's grandfather.

  • This is my all time favorite Trek, hands down

  • The last original (classic), real Trek movie

  • Too bad Gorkon hadn't been played by the late Jack Palance.

  • this movie is full of metaphors about war, politics, literature from Shakespeare to Nixon... great.

  • the shot of a torpedo hitting the enterprise at 1:11 before kirk says "signal our surrender", that shot is from star trek III- a movie made in 1984- this was amde in 1991

  • The Best star trek movie of all! this was the first I ever saw, I was about 5 when I saw it on tape:A+. Setting a new era for the federation and the klingon empire( as shown in star trek TNG for ex.) At first I had a feeling that Lieut. Valeris was responsible for what happen and setting kirk up, she was the only person to be near his quarters and hear what he said about the klingons.

  • You are all better off watching Star wars then this crap x

  • @JoanCollins2009 Me sa say you go watch Jar Jar Binks, me watch Star Trek.

  • @LoriCiani

The original trilogy only i would not Piss on the new starwars films :)

  • terrrible suggestion from kirk in onle of the last monvies:lets blow up the enterprise and be terrified YAY

  • new 1 was slick but lacked engaging characters & story ~

  • one of the bettr 1s ~ bettr than the latest ~ not presentation-wise ~

  • MY personal favourite of all the Star Trek movies, of both generations. I know that isn't the popular opinion, but it's dated far better than the earlier ones and it's much better and more intense than the other later ones. First Contact gives it some competition, but this one comes out on top.

The rebooted movie series can kiss my ass. THIS is Star Trek.

  • @ArcaneAzmadi "The rebooted movie series can kiss my ass. " It will, all the way to the bank.

  • @Zenutheduck "Successful" does not equal "good". Not even remotely.

  • @ArcaneAzmadi - Didn't say it did. However, the fact that most fans and most movie goers enjoyed it would suggest that the film makers would have no problem kissing your romp all the way to the bank!

  • Undiscovered Country > Wrath of Khan.

  • Best TOS era movie, hands down. This film is EPIC.

  • Wow that's one explosive trailer. It's really captivating, especially considering that it was made 25 years ago, when the trailers were much slower and less cut then todays flash-bang ones, which are rather teasers.

  • @adaseth - That would have been 20 years ago....

  • btw u should buy KLINGON ACADEMY the game.

its DAMN good and u can meet the general personaly ^^

  • Kirk is a SpaceTiger !

  • the best finale for the original star trek crew.

  • The Klingon chancellor who was killed in this movie was also one of Sibok's assistants in Star Trek V

  • @NIGHTWHMAN His names David Warner. Really good actor. Played Jack the Ripper in Time After Time with Malcom McDowell. Nicholas Myer wrote & directed the movie went on to do Star Trek 2.

  • @Cavillier1970 & Titanic

  • @NIGHTWHMAN he also played a Cardassian on TNG star trek.

  • ine never seen this... i didnt know there was a six movie with kurk and the crew

  • @2submit you should watch it, trust me...you won't regret.

  • Plummer the best klingon ever!

  • Plummer is brilliant as the psychopathic, cunning General Chang. Couldn't have picked a better adversary for Kirk (sorry Khan).

  • General Chang -"Have you not a sense of decency in you Kirk? We come in peace, and you blatenly defile that peace! and for that, I shall BLOW you out of the stars!!!"

    Fuckin ingenious dialogue!!!

  • The best of the Trek films, sorry Khan. And still a great trailer.

  • @bsjt I think Wrath of Khan captures the true 'human' essence of Trek, the friendship, sacrifice, memories.. that is reflected in the individual and close circle.

This captures the 'Vision' and message of Trek in the way that reflects good and truth overcoming deceit and prejudice (therefore has more complicated aspect to it) for universal peace.

Each has its own merits, both combined truly brings out the best in Trek imo, and should be looked upon as diff side of the same coin.

  • Funny... at :45, that was a Star Wars sound effect. They must not have had the movie completed at the time.

  • Is that the WOK theme in there?

  • Fist clench + "FIRE!" = EPIC!

    Probably the best trailer ever.

  • Comment removed

  • easily the best of all the original trek movies.

  • It's an amazing film but I think Wrath of Khan tops it...

  • @iamprov Well, any true Trekkie knows nothing will ever come even close to Wrath of Khan...but Undiscovered Country is among favourite Trek movies

  • @Dalbert342 I consider myself a 'true trekkie', I love Wrath of Khan but I actually much prefer Undisovered Country.

  • @superbrian1214 eh, I like the Wrath of Khan best, but this is definitely one of the best.

  • I don't understand why they did two movies after next-gen aired?

  • Because the TNG crew hadn't been established yet whereas there was a guaranteed audience of people who would pay the price of a cinema ticket to see the TOS crew in a movie.

  • Ah, it just seems strange to me because it's set before TNG while running at the same time.

  • All i can say about this amazing movie is :) =A= STAR TREK FOREVER =A=

  • This trailer makes me want to watch the movie. (Reaches for movie box set), I might pop it on.

Note: Does anyone else notice the Star Wars blaster sounds when the Enterprise and Bird of Prey fire?

  • Yeah like Tie Fighter

  • Okay, this was the best Trek trailer out of all the films in the franchise.

  • Undiscovered Country and Wrath Of Khan are simply the best movies of Original Series.

  • agree completely!

  • @Sylphoe what about the voyage home?

  • @timberwolf84 Also good.and funny. My favourites though are XI, VIII, II and VI :) In that order I think.

  • @Sylphoe I couldn't agree MORE. Those are the only 2 DVDS i have of the star trek movies, NEVER GET OLD

  • @Sylphoe And thus should be off limits to Abrams and Co.

  • This movie rocks.

And I'm glad that David Warner and Chris Plummer reprised their roles as Gorkon and Chang in ST6's prequel and PC-Game "Star Trek: Klingon Academy". (it's one hell of a game which has one hell of a story, which explains how Chang got his eye patch, how Gorkon became Chancellor and Chang chief of staff, why Chang was part of the conspiracy and why he likes Shakespeare)
