@wannawatchu66 - Yes, somebody needs to find that show and upload a few of the episodes. I recall the episode where one of the adopted kids was having problems with a school bully and his gang. The ironic thing was that the adopted kid knew martial arts, but he was trying to heed his real father's teaching of 'animals react; men think'...about dealing with problems, I guess. Apparently the kid had respect for his father who believed in peaceful measures. In the end, the kid had to fight, though.
@EstelleVEdwards Yes, I saw that particular episode too. One of the Mulligan kids called him a "sissy" for not fighting back initially. But then the kid surprised everyone by kicking the knife outta the bully's hand, fighting back and sending the whole gang to the ground, doubled over holding their guts and groaning in pain. As I recall, this bully would pull a knife and tell kids to fork over their lunch money (basically armed robbery), and the fighting back was what put a stop to it.
I remember watching this in class. I can also remember ordering a comic type book on this show from those order forms the Teache's would hand out every other week or something like for you to order books and you received the books in your classes
Did they do an episode on puberty which even included a subtle reference to masturbation? I remember watching such a video in 5th grade (and having absolutely no idea what they were talking about) but I can't remember whether it was Mulligan's Stew.
@RBW1122 ---Correction-- Without Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, and other BLUES cats out there in the era, there would be no Rolling Stones, Beatles. Mulligan Stew came after.
omg! We used to watch this in grade school on the old movie projectors. Then our teacher would have us make 4432 slogans on poster boards and paste pictures of food on them. The most creative one in the class would win.
I always used to get frustrated by the books on TV shows having the only entry for Mulligan Stew be a forgotten show from fall 1977 that lasted just a few episodes. THIS is the Mulligan Stew TV show I remember! Yes, I had the comic book (which was thrown away years ago). I remember the no-bake cookie recipe. I seem to remember them calling butter as "oleo". The 4-4-3-2 thing was handy. It sure was better than that crappy pyramid they have now. What a great artifact from the 70's!
Ditto to that, I remember being forced to watch this every few weeks or so back in the 3rd grade ('76-'77). We had coloring books to go with the show too. Actually compared to the "educational" crap they kids are forced fed now, Mulligans Stew was pretty cool. Catchy songs too, though even by the late 70's, they were cheesy. "Bad food and fad diets, are bad for you, so don't try it"...Wonder what happened to the actors?...
I'm at work and this song popped in my head. Last time, it was Kidd Video. Before, I would have stuff playing in my head for weeks. With the Internets, I can satisfy my weirdo brain cravings any time I please.
Thank You, Internets. You're my bestest friend. <3
I miss seeing those show, tunes would get stuck in my head,,,bad foods and bad diets,,,,lol,,,omg,, do you remember one song on kidd video,, carla sang it,, something like turn it up... i can remember the video but not the song,,,lol
I am dying to find that "no bake cookie" recipe for memories sake, I don't care how bad they are for me. If anyone can find it let me know! I will be grateful!
I remember the comic they used to pass out at school when this show was on. One of the things I remember was that in their tortured sense of logic, pepperoni pizza was a well-balanced meal:
Crust-- Bread & Cereals Group
Sauce - Vegetables Group
Pepperoni - Meats Group
Cheese - Milk Group
Imagine the major poopstorm that would ensue if they tried claiming that today.
I remember that comic book too. They also had some "no bake cookies" that were supposedly nutritionally balanced. The Flim-Flam Man was always trying to get them on Fad Diets. If they bring the show back, let's see if he does Atkins, the Zone, and South Beach.
Me too. I remember the episode where the band deserted Mulligan and he played a sad song about fad foods and bad diets on his guitar all by himself. I wonder whatever happened to the comic?
Oddly enough, Mulligan's stew is not very nutritious :D

I clicked on this thinking it was the NBC show of the same name that debuted in the Fall of '77.

I think all these low budget time filler children oriented garbage shows paid their adult cast in low grade Mexican ditch weed.

As a white hokey from the 70s.....
I had a thing for the blond haired pig tailed "Maggie" from Mulligan's Stew
"Maggie" we are both in our 40s now. If you are available I am ready to treat you right.

@ThoughtTraveler Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but sad to say that Maggie (Sherry Wright) passed away on July 11, 2009 at the age of 51. :(

Maggie RIP. I am sorry I never got the chance to meet you as a child.

@okbass I learned that. I was attracted to Maggie when I watched the show, but she was older back then then I was when I watched it.
