Wow, I remember this at all SRO theaters in Seattle during the mid to late 70's. Especially at the Admiral Theatre in West Seattle. It looked COOL on the red and orange curtains as they opened!
you're welcome! it used to play before every single movie i saw as a kid without exception, and i have very fond memories of those few seconds often being the only good moments of an otherwise boring evening of bad cinema to follow! ;)
it would be cool without the damn stupid thing at the beginning, and the obstructive curtain shit over the damn thing.... this is worse than what TV stations do when they stick their motherfucking logo on the damn screen during the show.
stick my tv up your arse, mate! ;) better yet, stick your own up your arse! and the next whiny s.o.b. who complains about the opening, will you kindly leap from a fuckn' bridge with a short noose? useless cretins!
I remember these Astro dater strips as a projectionist in the 70's. I still have a lot of these and older ones from the 60's (remember the searchlights) and earlier with cinemotion effects. If I can only get my hands on a portable 35mm projector.
I ran the projectors for a company called Gulf States Theaters in Slidell/New Orleans back in the mid 70's. I remember using this trailer and many more like them for no smoking and others. Any idea where I can find copies of these? Thanks. Stephen
uhh, i know it's been around a lot longer and yes Mike Vraney has been as well, i just meant Sage started his company (Grindhouse Releasing) with this specific logo and the whole trend years before, though there were still dozens of other distributors around before that. Ever notice how about 99% of internet blogs turn into violent schoolyard exchanges of insults. There should be a study
good evening. my name is Dr. Ackula. i am conducting an experiment in Blog Violence. my theory: lonely psychopaths and malcontents socially too awkward to vent their deeply held hositilities use the internet to unmask, unwind and jostle for the social hiearchy they do not have in 'real' or non-virtual life. like Second Life, only we might surmise: Second Lifeless. self-immolation is unfortunately out of the question for them, as they lack any self motivation beyond flaming others. dr. ackula.
Look at mine, HD Sound Quality, RediRemastered i call it.

That intro at the beginning is super suckily annoying...
coolnewkids 4 years ago
not as super "suckily" (jesus, do they teach kids how to spell anymore?) annoying as your inane commentary... but close! ;)
garagekubrick1 4 years ago
eh..
you spell bad.
JohanStendal 4 years ago
technically? that would be:
'you spell badLY.' ;)
garagekubrick1 4 years ago
that would be correct. however i belive that my comment spoke my mind in a understandable way.

yes, as a moron. ;)

This was originally part of National Screen Service's "ASTRO DATER" series of dater snipes, circa 1970. The music is called "Funky Fanfare."

check EBay and related sites for compilations. also, i think Tarantino used it in his GRINDHOUSE film for the mock 'prevues.'
garagekubrick1 4 years ago
Is there anyone who can send this video to me? I'm making some fake trailers for the hell of it and I thought a classic touch would be great.

There were all sorts of date slugs available with this kaliedascope format - both silent and sound..but only in FLAT...
