Thank you, Tony Monaco (b3tonymonaco), GOD of jazz and of the Hammond B3 - I can't bow deeply enough before you. Thanks. And thanks for your reply. The video is no harm, with your explanation, to salvage a reputation that didn't need salvage: Harvey Mason - a GOD beyond compare. Thanks again Tony.
Hey all and fellow lovers of both Mr. Martino and Mr. Mason. Let me help you all with the truth of what was going on here. This concert was the last of a 10 day Japan/Indonesia tour with the three of us and we were hot and ready to record this show. The opening act before us went way over time and we were rushed through an incomplete line check due to the huge mobb waiting for our show and rushed to start. We could'nt hear ourselves & the bounce back was loader than us! This should be removed!
I read the comments before watching the video and was inclined to dismiss the critical comments, but, as much as I love Pat, this performance is really missing a groove.
This tempo is not right - Pat always plays this song faster. Pat was rushing all the time, but my guess is that he was probably hoping that Harvey Mason would listen and follow his lead to pick up the tempo. Being the studio musician that he is, Harvey was just keeping perfect time - not always the most musical thing to do.
Nice, I guess, but what's with the 3 choruses of repeating the same 3 note phrase (with many, many dead-string mis-strikes)? And at least twice Pat gets way, way out of sync and ahead of the beat. I love Pat's playing, but this is definitely not one of his best performances.
@dtetreault You play ahead or behind at times for spice, the spice of life. That 3 note repeating phrase was as interesting as whole solos by some other cats. It's just what Pat does, it's his thing. You can as-well be pissed off at bird for doing some licks at times you din't want him to. It's improv man - life in the moment.
Okay okay, I hear it!

@MikeHawkOwns I think diagreen asked for the chords that repsonde to the melody, and not the melody itself ,which is octaves.
